This was my third visit to Escape Nails. Friend of mine has been going for years, and she recommended a technician named Joanne. This is a clean, friendly, organized business. I am a person with a disability. The people there have never failed to help me get in my seat comfortably or hold open the door for me when I ask. Joanne always listens to what I want, and while she might offer alternatives, she never pressures me. She really listens and it's fun to sit and talk to her and watch someone who is a magician at what she does. My nails have never been beautiful, as I am an artist and use my hands a lot. I decided to try gel nails and they are tough and durable and beautiful. I am so pleased. I am so happy to give them a high review. was very disappointed with my visit to this nail salon earlier today. As someone who recently moved to the Upper Arlington area, I was looking forward to finding a local salon I could return to regularly. I chose this location because it was conveniently just two minutes from my home, and I had hoped for a positive experience. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I hadn't had my nails done in a while and was excited to treat myself. I knew exactly what I wanted: short nails with a clear polish--nothing complicated. Upon entering, I was immediately told to "pick a color," even though I wasn't planning on choosing one. While I understand this may be part of their process, it felt rushed and impersonal. I'm naturally introverted and not confrontational, so I prefer to observe how service professionals treat quieter customers who may not always speak up. When I was called over, the technician abruptly asked, "Where's your colors?" I politely responded that I only wanted clear polish. She sighed in a way that made me feel as though my request wasn't worth her time. There was very little communication during the service, and aside from briefly confirming the shape I wanted (square), I wasn't asked any other preferences--such as whether I wanted my cuticles trimmed or if I would want sharp or round nails. She seemed disinterested and rushed through the appointment. The most uncomfortable part of the visit happened during the drying process. The OPI drying machine didn't turn on right away. After completing one hand, the technician abruptly switched to the other and, when the machine still didn't activate, she lifted it and, in a frustrated tone, said "This is how," while shoving her own hand inside to demonstrate. It was done in such a condescending and aggressive way that it left me feeling embarrassed and uncomfortable. When it came time to pay, I was shocked to be charged $70 for a basic set of short nails with no color or design. While I had expected something in the $40-$60 range, I still tipped $15 out of guilt and discomfort, though I now regret doing so. Overall, this was a very unpleasant experience. The lack of customer service, the attitude of the staff, and the high price for a basic service all left a very negative impression. I will not be returning, and I would recommend others consider different salons in the area, especially if they value kindness and professionalism. read more

A group of 6 of us got our nails done here the week before my wedding in October. It was such a pleasant experience! Two bridesmaids, sister, mom, and mother-in-law all came along. We made an appointment ahead of time, and were all able to be helped at the same time, so it was a pretty quick experience! We all got manicures, 4 gels and 4 regular polish. My gel manicure held up amazingly well - it was 6 weeks after the wedding (and our honeymoon on the beach!) and I had no chips (though obviously substantial grow out). $63 for a balance (Not including tip)???? One of my nails was also a different color and the technician kept trying to tell me it was beautiful, knowing it looked odd. She also did not file off the nails that were lifting and just put acrylic over them. I hate giving one stars- but when I am cut twice during a pedicure and then my gel nails bubble and peel the next day- I don't want anyone else spending $90 (that's including tip) on this place. I am a cosmetologist so I fully understand how a pedicure works and how to properly perform one. My pedicurist refused to push my cuticles saying he was "scared to cut me" then blamed me for having him push my cuticles when he cut my right big toe cuticle twice. He then used the buffer so hard and fast on my left big toe that he ripped my skin off near my cuticle and again blamed me for making him push my cuticles. The manicurist was nice- the gel looked okay. The next day my index finger peeled and my gel is bubbling under all my nails. I get manicure/pedicures once a month and I've never had someone tell me that they can't push my cuticles or clean under my nails. He even tried cutting my cuticles without pushing them! I could go on about the shape of my nails and the polish all over my toes but I'll leave it at the fact he cut me three times.. read more

I originally went for a gel manicure, but once I sat down, I saw that they had the dip powder. I was a bit hesitant at first because I've seen pictures where the nails look too thick and messy, but Michelle assured me they would be smooth like gel polish. They turned out great and I'm so happy with them! She said they should last about 3 weeks and they're supposed to be better for your nails. Highly recommend the dip and ask for Michelle if possible-she was so sweet and is very good at what she does! read more

The girl who did my nail was so rude, either the attitude or the technique. I need to remove my fake nails and put the gel polish on my own nails. She didn't rub it out but just cock it up so my nails got broken and became too short. It got so hurt and turn red but she still rub on it. I can't even feel my finger. Also the finished product is disappointed. She didn't clean up polish around my nails and remain the scratch on my thumb. I will never go there anymore. read more

This place is just average. Nothing awesome but nothing terribly bad. I went in for a gel polish only and the lady I had was not very friendly. She was forceful, standoffish and wanted to be done very quickly. So quickly that she left the sides of my nails empty. I actually made a comment about this when she was doing it and she stated she would fix it on the second coat. This didn't happen for all of the nails. The place is clean and the pedicure chairs looked nice. They were out of the first color I picked and for gel polish - you have to look at the fake nail samples and not the actual jars of polish. read more

Love my manicure. I was shopping at Penzy's and needed a manicure, so I hopped on over to the strip mall right next door and stumbled upon Escape Nail Salon. I was the only customer in the place which was nice. The girl that did my manicure was very nice and talkative, which I like (vs. someone that is silent). Typical manicure, cuticles, trim, file, hand massage w/lotion, scrub, oil on cuticles and color. I love that they only carry nice new bottles of OPI and Essie polishes to choose from, not the raga-muffin generic, chippy bottle looking 2 years old stuff. Too bad they're not closer to me because my nails look great. Even got a compliment at a store this afternoon on them. The first thing I'll say about my experience at Escape is that I absolute love the aesthetic of my acrylics. Color, shape, length, everything. Due to a mutual misunderstanding between myself and my regular salon, I found myself walking into Escape with no appointment, at noon, on a Saturday. I mentally prepared myself for a lengthy wait, but as soon as I chose my color (which took about 5 minutes since they have hundreds,) I was shown to a station! The man who did my nails was a bit grumpy, which didn't bother me too much since I'm introverted, and usually forgo pleasantries in favor of convivial silence. He mentioned that my (former) regular salon was sanding into my actual nails too far, and showed me the signs to look for. He really seemed to know a lot about shaping and technique, but the only reason I took 2 starts off is because he cut my cuticles too far back on many fingers, enough for two of my fingers to bleed. He noticed, and put some balm, or salve on them, but damn! It hurt! And for more than a couple of days! I paid for my bill in cash, and received the commonly offered discount; the balance was $45, before tip. I always tip service professionals well and I really did love the results, but I'm not sure if I'll be back. It's been one week and I still have little scabs where I bled from two fingers. read more

I love this place! I've been to many nail salons in Columbus and this is easily in my top 5.

There are 2 very important factors that make this salon so good. First, is the quailty of the service- I love how Joann does my nails. The second important factor is the care Joann and her husband show towards their customers. They do not talk back and forth to each other while neglecting us/them, but really behave as if they care and are interested. The final element that will keep me coming back is that they are very reasonably priced and up front about what you are paying for, which has been a pet peeve of mine in the past. I got a basic pedicure with Escape nails yesterday evening. I was disappointed with every bit of it. I got a "basic" pedicure there for I figured they were going to barely massage me so I expected that much. But it was when I looked at the final product of my nails. First there's no top coat on any of my toes which is making them look dry and cracked. It was supposed to be French tip and none of the toenails are even. The pink toes are completely covered in polish and on the right foot 3 out of 5 of the toes are over half way covered with polish. The left big toe has polish smeared on the mid portion of the toenail that looks horrible. All the toes look dry and crusty on and around the nails. On top of all the mistakes...this BASIC pedicure cost me $47.30 this took around 30 minutes and was very poorly done and cost 17.30 above average for a simple basic pedicure with regular polish. I have been going to the space Escape is in for years and have gong through several owners. The owner now has had the place I believe longer than anyone else. She is very friendly and very efficient and she remembers her clientele. Some of the technicians are friendlier than others, but I have a few favorites I love to go to. The pedicure is always a relaxing experience and I have always had beautiful toenails when I get one. I like to have pink solar nails for my hands because I don't want to mess with having to deal with nail polish. The pink solar nails give a healthy look to my nails without having to change colors. The salon is very clean and they have lots of product to choose from. I love going there. I would highly recommend Escape. read more

Just left. Wanted a gel mani and a pedi. The pedicure went ok, except it felt like she was digging for an artery. Overall not displeased. Then she went and took care of someone's mani that came in after I did. I had to wait for someone else to get done. Then the guy started, had me wash my hands. The base wouldn't stick and after putting on three coats of clear and being fully aware it wasn't sticking he said you shouldn't have used the soap to wash your hands it has lotion in it. He failed to mention this when I went to wash my hands. So I was running out of time, told him to take off the gel and I had to go since I had been there almost two hours already. Still charged me for a mani. Had no cares, just interested in answering the phones. Don't expect great service if you're looking for a relaxing experience. read more

This was the worst nail experience. Save your money. Had to wait 20+ mins after my appt time, got attitude from the tech, and a terrible set of acrylics. He filed down my skin so far I bled on two fingers, they're uneven, a full 1/2 inch shorter than I asked for AND the top coat doesn't even cover the whole misshapen nail on all fingers. I normally don't write reviews, in fact this is my first one. I felt this just had to be shared because I have never been more disappointed with a nail facility. I initially went in with such high hopes because it came highly recommended, however this place fell short (if I could give it less than 1 star I would). I went in for tips and a dip powder manicure, nothing too crazy. The first person who started the process did not know how to accurately even apply tips (I found out later on she was still learning and had never administered them before, so why she chose me to experiment was beyond explanation) anyway eventually someone else had to take over. I asked for oval nails which did not seem too complicated. Once she had shaped them though they appeared more square. I simply asked her to round the edges and was yelled at because those were considered "pointy nails"- far from the truth. (Refer to picture- clearly round). While being yelled at my hands were also slapped because I was not "relaxed enough". I go to get my nails done to relax. Not to be mentally and physically abused. I'm writing this days later because after only 4 days two of my nails have fallen off and 1 has chipped. I've been getting dip powder and tips for years and have never experienced such a short lasting time frame. It is easy to say I will NEVER go back, even to get these 3 nails replaced.
