I've been to most of the indoor shooting ranges and they are great but have their limitations in building your skill set. I've been looking for an outdoor range for about a year. I went to watch my friend shoot at a competition. I was chatting with a few of the other shooters and they told me I should join them. I tried to talk my way out of it, saying I wasn't prepared. But they wouldn't take no for an answer... so I joined them. Although I've shot quite a few times at indoor ranges, I've never been timed in my life and this was only my second time shooting at an outdoor range. Everyone was very helpful. A few people took me under their wing and they started coaching me and teaching me why I was shooting low. By the end of the competition, I was able to consistently hit more targets. Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful. I highly, highly recommend it. The waitlist for membership is about 1 year so get your application filled out right away. read more

I really can't review to much the Escondido Fish and Game Association as I am not a member, but a guest. Membership to this great range apparently has a 2 year wait list, and requires you to be part of the NRA. Regardless I came for an Appleseed event, and am probably coming back for a pistol steel challenge. While it doesn't seem as massive as some other ranges, it is beautiful and well up kept. The range itself is located inside a wildlife preserve and the surroundings forest and mountain backdrop is gorgeous. Most out door ranges I've been to are against some large mountain in the desert with vast expanses of nothingness. While the longest range I believe was only 150 Meters, the back drop was literally green forest and trees behind the berm, and it was quite gorgeous. The range has actual decent bathrooms, a large BBQ pit area and is quite organized. Definitely different than your run of the mill outdoor ranges like Angeles or South Bay Rod and Gun in which it actually feels like a little community. I can see where the membership dues goes to. While I would probably never get a membership here (That wait list is a little daunting, and the range is quite a long drive up a mountain from where I am) if you are in the area this place is second to none. They have tons of competitive events, and seems family oriented. Quite awesome. read more

Don't even try to be a member, they will laugh you out. Way to many rules and restrictions. If you can get into an open event cool...but I've tried many times and get denied because it's to full. I showed up on cowboy day and the people were so insanely rude to us about the guns we brought...sorry, i didn't own an arsenal that fit your tight restrictions on what guns can be shot on that particular day. It seems to be impossible to become a member here, or go to their public events. I really wish I could give this place a 5 star, but I haven't been able to shoot there and just waste 1.5 hours each time I try by either getting turned away at the gate, or the range. Better luck driving out to the dessert and picking a good dune to set up some targets on. read more

Ok...I'm a latino who wants to go 'bang-bang-bang' without some other vato pulling a gat on me and taking me down. Where to go? Escondido Fish and Game! A very few old white guys (this range is almost always empty) sitting around talking about Nam' and very occassionally shooting a muzzle loading brown powder howzer ww2 gatlin whatever. So anyway, this place is wiiiide open for shooting. Nice outdoor setting to bbq carne asada, empty ranges so no one spewing brass in your face. Sure, some of the oldies give you looks like they might have linched you if the South had won, but hey, I've got my Glock and he's got his revolutionary war musket, so he's not really gonna be messin with me, so it's cool. So this is a great place to shoot. 150 yards if you got a rifle. Skeet if you're a redneck with a shotgun. And unlike other ranges, no 'first time shooter' chick in stillettos and boobs sticking out at the firing line, trying to impress her meat head boyfriend, pointing her rented gun all over and making it dangerous. But don't overestimate the EF&GA shooters. If your out at the pistol range, look up. At least a hundred morons have discharged their firearms into the roof shade. Hate to think of where all those bullets are landing....yikes! read more

I've been a member several years and I LOVE this place. It's in a beautiful and peaceful mountain/valley location. Open only to members and their guests. There is a long (2+ years) waiting list to join. It also helps big-time to be referred by an existing member, to be able to join. They are somewhat selective who gets to join, and you have to prove you're an NRA member to before you get selected. There is a fence around the large grounds, and a locked gate that only opens for members with electronic cards. Good at keeping out people and maybe even LE from snooping too much. It's a place that shooters can feel safe to shoot, without being bothered. My one and only issue, is that it's out of the way for many people. It's a solid 40-minute 1-way drive for me, so I'm not able to go as often as I'd like. Still, it feels great to be a member of a private club where I can shoot, and it beats having to drive 3 hours to shoot in the desert. read more

I am a member and love this place. There is a two year waiting list because they want to make sure members have a great experience and it does not get too crowded. They only let new members join after others have decided to leave. I love that it is an out door range located in the beautiful mountains of San Diego. The people and facilities are great. read more

My husband has been looking all over for a place where we can take classes on how to shoot. Our instructors were Jack and Ed. Ed was my favorite!!! He's super attentive, very detailed and knowledgeable. Extremely supportive, considerate and such a great teacher! I learned a lot in the very few hours that I was there. We started off with donut and coffee, took a two hour class, hands on gun shooting lessons, and then took the test!! Past !!! Got our license and certificate !!! The Junior Marksmanship program is AMAZING! I cannot praise it enough. As a parent, I am completely confident that my 11 year old is learning proper safety first and foremost. The instructors are second to none. In addition, my son & I attended additional pistol & shotgun classes. Our instructors were fantastic. This is a private club, open to guests (the public) on certain days & nights. I shoot 5-stand & come out on Wednesday nights. The shooters, who I assume are members are a friendly group of guys, always willing to help out. I've been 6 times and have met some fine people there. They're a little slow to get going at 5:00 PM, but seeing as its all volunteers, I understand. read more

I've trained with individuals and large companies alike and find this program to be superb. If your looking for somewhere to "mess around", don't waste your time coming here. Great experience for myself and the kids. We went out for handgun safety training for my four boys age 8 to 18. They learned all about firearm safety and did some target shooting. The facility was clean and the staff knowledgeable. Would highly recommend to anyone for basic firearms safety training course. read more
