Elegant and pleasing to the eyes. Touristy and full of European-inspired restaurants. I stayed in a charming apartment on Española Way this past February. I loved the walkability of the area and its local gelato shop and cigar lounge. It's a reasonably short walk from Española Way to Lincoln Road and to the actual beach. It is a short strip with a stoney road that extends for about two short blocks. It has a beautifully lit ambiance at night. Yet, there is so much more of Miami Beach to see and there are areas that hold more diversity. read more

And the best part? The food offerings are actually pretty darn good! I ate at three of the restaurants here and all three were quite solid, a strong batting average for a more tourist-heavy area. It's always lively -- full of energy, beautifully decorated, and very clean. There's such a wide variety of restaurants and dessert spots that there's truly something for everyone. The cobblestone walkway, string lights overhead, and tree-lined street give it such a charming, European feel. Almost every restaurant has a host out front with menus available to browse as you stroll by, which makes it easy to explore your options. We've dined at several different spots over the years and usually grab ice cream afterward for dessert! Some of the restaurants even have hotel rooms or Airbnb-style accommodations upstairs. Espanola way, was beautiful, but not really what I was expecting. It is 90% restaurants, a couple of ice cream shops & a couple of small chain stores(I think there was a rayban, etc). It's a small street, turned into a pedestrian walk with outdoor dining. Do not go early afternoon, as there is a grades hold just a block away, and very limited parking. The restaurants did look pretty good, with outdoor dining and some Latin music. read more

I was told by a few people before coming to SOBE that Espanola Way was not to be missed. I did a little research and found out that it was a pedestrian walkway that a lot of tourists frequented. That was enough for me, and after having some breakfast I made my way over to check it out. Espanola Way encompasses a couple of blocks close to some of the main tourist destinations in SOBE. I initially visited during the day and there was not much going on, though when I revisited at night it was a different story. The street is closed off to cars for the most part, and contains several restaurants that were all bustling. I also noticed a couple of shops, as well as some boutique hotels. If I'm being honest, I was expecting more. I wasn't sitting to eat anywhere, and it took me maybe 10 minutes at most to walk the whole thing. I guess if you're dining in one of the restaurants your experience will be different, but as someone who was just strolling there was not too much to see. Overall, I wouldn't call this the most interesting place in SOBE, but it's close to a number of other hot spots so it's worth walking through as you're exploring the area. read more

Ive been here plenty of time and always had an amazing experience. It is a tourist trap as you would say. As it does caters to majority, holiday makers and tourists. You have the half block alley walkway full of restaurants. Italian, sushi, Cuban and so on. I've been to a couple on various trip and they all were a nice experience. It does get pretty busy both in the evening and especially during the weekend. Also, a cute little stroll to people watch. Dining tend to be outside. I think all of the restaurants do have indoor, but outside dinning is bigger. There's a few hotels along the walkway which makes it a good access from, but be advised the restaurant stay open late and it can get loud. read more

The conference I attended, rented out this whole street one night for a "Cuban Block Party". It was awesome! They had every single restaurant open for us (set items/menu of course), including the cigar shop! Had a ton of great food up and down the street. Had some Cuban food like pork, croquetas, plantains etc. Had some Neapolitan pizza slices, had some gnocchi and ravioli, had some gelato, had some tacos. Everything I ate was delicious! Ended it with a cigar and took a walk down to South Beach. Only thing I didn't like was that we had too many people. Our event had at least 1100 people, and this street really can't hold that many. It was very packed, and hot most of the night. Even then, everything else made up for it and it was a dope spot for a "block party". read more

Lively and great live cuban band, attentive service (I highly suggest the Mojitos!), delicious authentic Cuban cuisine. I believe they feature live music 12-8pm daily, and I'm sooo for it!!! Do you want to pretend you're somewhere in Italy or Spain without having to deal with a long wait at Customs or Rona quarantines? Then take a stroll through Española Way on Miami Beach. A few blocks way from the Ocean Drive and Washington Ave, this is about three blocks of cobblestone streets and string lights above the low- rise buildings. Since we're on the tail end of the holiday season, there were a few Christmas decorations along the plaza like stars, ornaments and reindeer & sleigh sculpture. There are more than a couple restaurants in the area - mostly catering to tourists and the street scene where a fun (if not fancy) meal can be enjoyed. I've reviewed a couple of them separately. There are a few boutiques as well as a hotel and yoga studios. I believe this area has been in a couple of movie sets such as "The Specialist " back in the 90s. Unfortunately because of You Know What , as well as e-commerce , there are a couple of empty storefronts. However , Española Way still gets five stars because I'm old enough to remember when the Italian restaurant in one corner that I photographed was a run down bodega, and one of those hotels was what is now called an ALF. There is definitely hope for this area to come through again, and even now it's still a nice place to spend a couple of hours in the afternoon people watching and enjoying good food. read more

Nestled in the heart of South Beach is a street filled with European charm. The idea of a Spanish Village was conceived by NBT Romney and William Whitman in 1925. It's a two block corridor between Washington and Pennsylvania Avenues designed to look like the Mediterranean villages of Spain and France. In the 1920's, Espanola Way was where the wealthy went to dine and dance. It was also a gathering place for the gangsters of the time. Al Capone was rumored to have used the Clay Hotel for gambling. By the 1970's Espanola Way had become dilapidated like all of the South Beach Art Deco district surrounding it. In the 1980's Linda Polanski purchased the south side of Espanola Way. Her restoration efforts of the area along with the Clay Hotel attracted the attention of the producer of the T.V. show Miami Vice who filmed 12 episodes of the show on Espanola Way, including the first and last. Music videos, advertisements, and movies like the Bird Cage would go on to be filmed there. Today Espanola Way is lined with restaurant with outdoor seating, art galleries, and shops. Popular restaurants include Havana 1957 serving Cuban cuisine and Mare Mio Restaurant, an Italian eatery. As you walk down the street the waiters and hostesses call out aggressively for your business. Hey lady, come back! With everyone pushing so hard to get your attention it is hard to look over the menus. I am in love with the street but the main problem with this area is the lack of parking although you can pay for valet. Still it is worth the extra effort to come as this a very unique and charming area of Miami. read more

Many Miami "Must See" Lists have Española Way as a top 10 destination. Why?? It certainly has a charming look. But let's face it, it's nothing more than an overpriced tourist trap with not much to do. Española Way has about 15 restaurants and cafes by my count and there are a number of boutique hotels that dot the area. While many websites tout the shopping there, we didn't notice any stores whatsoever. From the time we parked, it took just 5 minutes to walk through this unremarkable area, end to end. Once we hit Washington Avenue and realized that was it for this "destination", we headed over to the Lincoln Road Mall which is a bigger but less visually pleasing version of Española Way. Unfortunately, Lincoln Road Mall was also a whole lotta nothing. I would actually not recommend visiting either area. Waste of time in my opinion. One star. read more

Charming Old World pedestrian-only street We drove to Miami on a late Friday afternoon and had dinner at Havana 1957. The restaurant is located in Miami's famed Española Way. Great food and service and we literally had curbside seating, like, close to the pedestrian lane! Our plates were more like platters--and I'm not complaining at all. Espanola Way comes alive on Friday nights. There were many dining options with two blocks of dining establishments on both sides. The historic street had Spanish Mediterranean architecture, pink stucco buildings, terracotta tiled roofs and pretty palms lining the pedestrian-only block of bars, boutique hotels, shops, and restaurants. I love the charm and the vibrant feel as we strolled from one end at Washington Ave to the other (Drexel Ave). We also enjoyed watching graceful flamenco dancers perform in the middle of the alley. Our little stroll made me feel like I was in Europe... "funtastic" atmosphere with lots of energy and vibe! It was a busy, jam-packed happening place. While on vacation in Miami Beach I was lucky enough to walk through Espanola Way a handful of times. The "way" is pedestrian only so you don't run into any traffic involving vehicles, although foot traffic is high with the street being filled to the brim with tourists walking around. After a dinner at Havana 1957 my husband and I decided to walk the whole street to see what other restaurants / shops were around and were saddened to see that Espanola Way is quite a short walk. What we also noticed is Havana 1957 has a prime location in Espanola Way while other establishments further in try to pick tourists off the street to get them inside. While walking around we constantly had menus shoved in our faces which took away from the old-world charm. It is definitely something to see, but I wouldn't go out of my way just to walk Espanola Way. I'd suggest planning a trip to Havana 1957 or other eateries near and then stroll through. read more

Parking is a challenge on the street so although she'd tried to come here before, she wasn't successful in finding a parking spot nearby. Espanola Way is a dining/shopping area between 14th and 15th streets and Washington and Pennsylvania Avenues. I didn't venture much down the street to see any shops, but I did see the various restaurants -- Cuban, Mexican, and Spanish, et al. As we entered, there were a number of places with outdoor/sidewalk seating. Every place had a person trying to entice us to look at their menu and eat there. We were hoping for a happy hour drink and snack. Most places had drink specials, but none of the places we asked had any happy hour food, as well. One of the eating places near the entrance, I've actually recommended to others just based on their positive yelp reviews. We thought we might have a drink there, but we decided to head further north and have a regular dinner. I think in the fall and winter, this would be a great place to come back to. We went here twice on our trip. Both times we are at Romano Italian restaurant and it was delicious both times. The service is on point with the busboys refilling water, cleaning table, so I was impressed by the attention to detail. We also stopped by Konos next door for gelato both nights as well. El Paso Hotel is located on Española Way if your looking for hotel accommodations and believe it or not our room was very, very quiet. However, a room overlooking Española Way might not be sound proof for sleeping. There are several restaurants and shops here and for some reason it just seems more inviting vs the Ocean dr establishments. Don't get me wrong, Ocean drive is fun as well but it's just a different experience here on Española Way. read more

Espanola Way is a long strip with a bunch of shops and restaurants in Sobe. We went here during the day and came back later on in the evening. Great place to be but I noticed that it is more lively in the evening. The energy and vibe at night is different. A lot of the restaurants have live music. It's got the coolest vibe - very European. You are easily transported far away. You have got so much to choose from on this street. Standouts for me are Tapas and Tintos - so much fun for dancing and having tapas. The old fashioned Italian place has to die for pastas. And, Havana on the corner transports you to Cuba.
