If you have not tried this pizza, DO IT! NOW! I came for the Mexican, I stayed for the pizza. A quick note on the service. Waitstaff was very attention and I never wanted for anything. A 5+ stars to their service team. I have eaten pizza in places all over the globe... some of the best pizza in the world... Venice, NYC, Chicago, Detroit... I have to say that nothing compares to Esplendido's pizza. A close second would be Loui's in Hazel Park. I came into the place and it looked kind of old, something like Loui's or the original Buddy's. No big deal... I wasn't there for the ambiance and non-existent four string quartet... I was there for the food. I ordered a chimichanga. I compare all chimichangas to the Chi-Chi's chimichangas of the 90s... those were my perfect ten. The chips and salsa were good. The chimichanga here was OK, maybe a 5/10. I ordered a large deep-dish pizza to go. I had heard this pizza was supposed to be the same as Jimmy's Pizza from decades ago. Even though I had just polished off a bowl of chips, two bowls of salsa and the whole chimichanga meal, I had to have a piece of pizza. My family used to get Jimmy's Pizza from the 18 and Hayes location almost every week when I was a kid... I heard stories about a hidden remaining Jimmy's Pizza, but I never thought they were true. OMG, I immediately ate two pieces of pizza before even leaving the restaurant. The pizza was perfect! The crust is amazing... crunchy, yet airy... almost like you are biting into a brick of the clouds of heaven... the dough to cheese ratio is spot on... the sauce on top of the crust is done just right... and the tiniest detail that almost everywhere else overlooks... the sesame seeds baked into the bottom of the crust! The toppings were all fresh and top notch. I can't say enough about this pizza, but I cannot find mere mortal words that could do it justice. Get out there and try it! read more

Worst experience ever. Where do I start? First the ambience. If you were to make a movie set in the 80's at some rural up north restaurant, this would be a great setting. There was a table of people celebrating Christmas. The parents/management allowed the children to run everywhere, scream and yell, climb and bang on the tables. The fries, pizza and hot dogs were apparently very good. The carbonation/syrup mixture was off on the pop. And it had very little syrup. The mexican food was absolutely the worst I have velvet had. The rice was tasteless and an ugly brown color despite being white rice. The refried beans had no flavor at all and looked as if they were cooked days ago. I also had a Chimichanga. I only had one bite because I bit into a toothpick that was inside the fried disaster. I absolutely love esplendido. It usually is not very busy but I would highly recommend it. My favorite thing here is the avocado cheese crisp appetizer. It is super cheesy and a staple. I did not enjoy the chicken tacos but the beef ones were much better. It is also very cheap. read more

Well took a short cut saw Mexican what the hell (Felt like living dangerous) These day's all restaurant's serve 1/2 portions double price. This review is based solely on the pizza. We don't dine in. We always get carry out. We've been Getting pizza here since 2007. They're deep dish is one of the best in the area. My wife and I along with our good friends Pete and Leigh have been going there every Friday for the past three years. For my wife and I it is usually for the pizza (special for us). Pete likes the burger and fry on Friday and his wife Leigh really likes the chicken puffy taco, but they too get the pizza from time to time. Esplendidos has a wonderful staff. Everyone is warm and welcoming. The food, not so great. The only thing I'd say is good enough to go back for here is the Mexican pizza, but that's being nice. When a Mexican restaurants best dish is pizza... that's not a good sign. Their salsa is also very off, almost ketchup like. If you're looking for ambience, look elsewhere - this place is a straight up dive. But what they lack in decor, they make up for with their amazing "puffy" shredded chicken tacos and delicious enchiladas! I've eaten here at least 40 times and the food is always consistently great. Also, they have specials (drink and food) every single day of the week! The wait staff is attentive and the owners are as sweet as can be. Was just ok. The décor was average neighborhood hole-in-the-wall bar. Plenty of TV's with the day's sporting event. The service was good, waitress was helpful and quick. But the food was just so-so. This place is absolutely horrible. It does not even deserve 1 star. First off, I was not greeted and I was given a waitress that didn't know anything about the menu or let alone Mexican food. I asked multiple times if she had things and she responded with "i think so" or "I'm not sure". She then didn't know anything about Mexican food. They do not serve sea food, which i don't eat meat so i would be left with little options. Then i asked what things contain and she had no answer for me. I would not recommend this place at all. The cheese didn't taste like cheese, the pico de gallo was all onions and nothing else and the salsa tasted like pizza sauce. I DEFINITELY don't recommend this place. Sorry to say that Esplendido Pizza and Taco wins my worst place I have ever eaten award. Maybe food other than Mexican is good, I don't know, we had Mexican food. The salsa looked and tasted like tomato paste and red pepper flakes and the tortilla chips seemed to have come right out of a bag of the cheapest chips available. I will say we go when they are slow, shortly after opening, so I understand people may still be prepping, etc. Good amount of food for the $. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. I don't know why they even specialize in Mexican food...Hubby and I went here on a whim after getting the pizza (carry-out) a couple times which is actually pretty good. This time we decided to sit down and order the mexican food. The entire concept just makes no sense...the decor screams 70's bar but they consider themselves a Mexican joint that also specializes in pizza? Starting off, the chips and salsa should have been our first warning to leave. The chips tasted old and were definetly NOT fresh. The salsa...tasted like pizza sauce out of a can. To be fair, our server and busboy were very nice and pleasant to deal with and the service was quick. My silverwear was also dirty..and they replaced it immediatly. I decided to go with the puffy tacos and a side of rice&beans and hubby got the chicken enchilada dinner. We didn't even eat half..the food had NO FLAVOR. The enchilada sauce was just warm goop and honestly gave me a stomach ache. The puffy taco was unfortuantely fried too hard and the chicken was SO bland. You can't make up for flavorless food by covering it in cheese. I don't like to be harsh and I truly want to see this place succeed..they should just stick to the pizza and revamp the concept. read more

This is the correct address! They moved from the other location years ago. OK, here is my review: Esplendido is a great place that doesn't always have great service. The Mexican food is wonderful and the pizza is delicious. They now serve burgers and other items as well, but that's not what I'd go here for. Their homemade soft shell tacos keep me coming back, and I live 45 minutes away from here! Don't expect too much in the way of service. On multiple occasions I have been let down by the wait staff and the kitchen. If you're going to eat here you had better plan on spending some time sitting hungrily at your table. I have not, however, had a problem when ordering takeout. I will say that when they screw up when you're eating at the restaurant they try their hardest to make it right. Case and point: We came here for dinner this past Mother's Day. We sat for an hour before receiving our appetizers. All in all we were here for close to 2 hours for Mexican food, and WE certainly weren't dillydallying. The owner came by and apologized multiple times, bought us a round of drinks, and even threw in desert. His customer service skills are far better than the ability of his staff to ensure we had a pleasant experience. I will definitely be coming back, because the food is THAT GOOD. read more
