I've been going to gyms a long time, and I've seen just about everything. But this one really rubbed me the wrong way. The other day, a trainer was working with a client and acted like she owned the place. My buddy and I went to use some equipment in the same general area, and before we even got started, she waved us off and told us we couldn't be there -- like the whole section was "hers." Look, I get it. Personal trainers need space sometimes. Fine. But this is a public gym that everyone pays for. You don't get to block off a whole area and bark at members like they're in your way. If she had just said it politely, no problem. But the attitude was unreal. I'm old school. Basic respect goes a long way. This whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth and made the gym look unprofessional. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS GYM The manager at this gym (blonde hair) was extremely rude to my friend and I. I am a member at this club and I sent my friend a FREE guest pass. He received a 3 day guest pass. When we arrived and my friend scanned his guest pass, he gave the manager his information and was told that he needed to speak with a sales agent before being allowed to workout. We were left sitting in the lobby for 30 minutes before the sales agent came out to speak with him. My friend told the agent that he was only planning on using the guest pass for the day. We were then told to wait some more. Then, the manager came out and told my friend that he could not use his FREE guest pass and would have to pay $20 for the day because he did not have an interest in getting a membership. Nowhere in the policy does it say that you must have an interest in getting a membership to use a FREE guest pass. This was made up, on the spot, by the manager. I tried to visit this gym with a friend using a FREE guest pass that I signed up for and had the most difficult experience. The blonde receptionist, Ellen S, was rude and clueless from the very beginning after I scanned my FREE guest pass, and I had to wait 30 minutes on an agent to talk with me. And once they found out that I was only intending on visiting for the day, I was told that I cannot use my FREE guest pass and had to pay $20 since the agent would not earn commission of me becoming a member. As someone who used to go to Lifetime right up the street, I am quite impressed by this gym. When lifetime was starting to get a little too expensive I started my hunt for a new gym. This was one recommended to me by a friend, so I gave it a try. I am glad I did. Reasons I like this gym: usually not too busy (especially when I go) -- don't ever feel like I'm fighting over equipment; the machines are set up nicely and spread out -- you never feel like you're on top of everyone else; cleanliness is big -- have never felt as though the equipment, floors, restrooms, or locker rooms were dirty. All in all, I appreciate this gym for its convenience and numerous locations as well as its monthly price. You really get what you pay for with this one. They even have a membership option where you can bring a guest every time you go to the gym! read more

This is by far the worst gym I've ever been to. I would have given it a zero if I could. My mom signed me up because they claimed they were offering a one-day-only deal for $25 a month for the basic membership. However, when I checked their website a few days later, we found out that this is actually their regular price. The staff member who spoke to my mom lied to her face, saying he had never seen prices this low before. Because I was working and couldn't come in myself, he convinced my mom to sign the paperwork for me, even faking my signature instead of waiting for me to arrive says thinks like this is how I fed my kids. I gave the gym a fair shot and went three times that week, but I didn't like it. When I tried to cancel, I was told I couldn't get a refund--even though it hadn't even been a full week. Every time I interacted with the old lady at the front desk she was incredibly rude. We called LA Fitness before coming in to cancel our membership, and they told us that as long as we arrived before 5 PM, we would be able to cancel. When I came in to discuss canceling the membership, she refused to talk to me, claiming I was a minor (I'm not). She also made an inappropriate comment, telling me I needed to smile more and suggesting that I must not like the gym because I have anxiety. The real reasons I didn't like the gym are simple: it's dirty, the sauna doesn't work, the air conditioning is poor, and many of the machines are old and do not work as well as other gyms. When I mentioned how hot it was inside, the old lady got in my face and said she was so cold and had to wear a sweater at work. She later told me she had lupus, which may explain her experience, but it doesn't change the fact that the facility was uncomfortably warm and poorly maintained. Another employee offered me a tour, and for the first time, I actually felt cool air blowing--right after I had complained about the heat. Overall, I had a terrible experience. The staff was rude, the facility was in poor condition, and the pricing felt deceptive. I would not recommend this gym to anyone. read more

That said, the facility stays clean, and most members are respectful, other staff are nice too. My other issue: broken machines often sit unfixed for days, disrupting workouts. Worked out at the Collierville location a few times and not going back. I've never had such a negative experience with trainers/management as the rude people I dealt with here. The gym is dirty, weights are left on the bars and things arent tidied up, and the sauna from what they tell me has been broken for months. Very unfortunate because I've had good luck at other chain locations but this one has the rudest manager and PT trainer (who blatantly walked through my workout area mid set) and got onto me when I spoke up. This is probably what would be considered the best LA Fitness location in the city. It is considered a "Premier" location and includes towel service. There is also a room for HIIT workouts, but I've never seen it in use. There is a turf area in the center that contains good training equipment such as sleds, battle ropes, kettle bells, etc...The gym is very clean and spacious. There are more cable machines at this gym. The spin class has a lot more bikes than the other gyms and it was spotless. The treadmills are my least favorite thing about this gym - only due to the fact that you can't enter your desired speed, which helps when doing intervals. Instead, you have to continuously arrow up/down. Needless to say, this is not a major issue! This is a great gym and a wonderful addition to the Collierville area. read more

They continued to bill us for one membership. I called several times & went in person to dispute the continuing charges. Here it is , 25 months later and they are still billing me!! Absolute garbage. This gym is the definition of inconsistent. They change their hours with no warning and have absolutely no availability. They have horrible attitudes and the work ethic of a toddler. The only good thing that they have is undamaged equipment. Even that is debatable though. Completely unreliable. I have been on my gym journey for some time and I have hardly been able to even attend the gym because of the god awful hours. They lie right to your face and tell you that there are no contracts then when you go to cancel one of their services then they make you "buy out". Which is a fancy way of them saying that if you want to cancel something then you have to pay a large sum of the contract period you entered. Overcrowded to the core. You can't even pick up a weight without being shoulder to shoulder to someone else. The only time you can workout is when the gym is an hour from closing. Bottom line, I'm tired of not being able to use my membership I pay for because of the inconsistent hours, I'm tired of feeling crammed in there when I do finally get the chance to go, and I'm tired of the lazy and rude staff. 0 out of 10. This is a great facility, staff is friendly AND the yoga instructor is awesome! She adjusts her teaching to the individual levels of participants. Classes are not crowded and the room is quiet. The aquatic and Zumba classes look great also. read more
