So far so good. Place is clean, lots of variety, and everything you'd expect from a gym including bored front desk staff, meatheads with bulging muscles who basically live there, and lots of pimply teenage boys. But there are also fit older ladies, ample machines, and lots of space to roam. I wish the classes were at more convenient times. Love the kidcare - wow, such a godsend. If I had three wishes, I'd ask for more classes (or better class time), more machines (or duplicates of the most used ones), and kidcare hours on Friday and the weekends - but you can't have everything, right? read more

I thought the Germantown athletic club was more than you ask for but I was totally wrong! They have opened for 30 years and it shows! The weights and the machines haven't changed for 15 years! The basketball courts went from three to two! Don't let get started on the pool! I was told two Olympic sized pools and come to find out that the indoor pool was ten feet shorter than Olympic size and they have for the outdoor pool one third of the size as the one indoors and a kids pool! That's it ! Everything is confusing when you walk in! And plus they charged me $100 plus $40 just to sign up! Forget that! There's ATC right down the street that I can $25 for and go to all 20 of them! It's just not worth it to me ! There's only one Germantown athletic club and fifty other clubs that have more than one! I've been a member off and on for a number of years and really enjoy the club. The machines are clean and generally not crowded and the pool is a great temperature and spotless. I wanted to give credit to the young man working the desk named Tyler... I left the gym, got all the way to my house, and realized that I'd left my work iPad at the gym. It was very near closing time for the gym so I called ahead and asked someone to please grab my iPad and not lock me out so that I might get it. Tyler brought my iPad to the door and handed it to me with a smile, even though it was slightly after closing time. He's a clear example of the friendly staff that I've met at the GAC and I appreciate his going above and beyond the scope of his job to help me out. read more

This is a great family place to work out, swim, play basketball and be active. It's very family friendly and offers a variety of children activities. The club was recently renovated and updated. The outdoor pool area is a great way to spend summer days. It has two separate areas. One is a zero entry area with small water slides and water toys. The other is a large pool. The snack bar offers reasonable snack items. There is also an indoor pool, Pilate's studio, racquetball court, basketball court, locker room and large cardio and weight area. They offer a lot of fitness classes that are included with the membership. I like it for the family friendly atmosphere and the reasonable prices. You can even buy a six month membership which is what I did a few years ago since I was mostly going to use it for the summer. read more

I am so happy that I found this place. I was a member of a different club and was very disappointed in how they did business. The Germantown Athletic Club is really the best I have ever belonged to. I spent a career in the Army and had access to fitness centers all over the world. This location beats all that I have ever seen because it has everything in one location. There are both indoor and out door pools, a spa, sauna, racquetball courts, basketball courts, free weights, machines, cardio, indoor track, even a ping pong table. Come on, a ping pong table? I love it. This place is great. It is family friendly but not so that the kids are interrupting an adult workout. There are separate locker rooms for the kids as well. They have a great variety of classes from the more simple workouts to advanced programs. Also, don't forget to get a bit of wisdom from the coffee club upstairs. You guys are great. read more

What a GREAT gym! There is definitely a community feel here from the staff and fellow patrons! This place has everything...pools, classes (100 a week!), basketball and racquet ball courts, ping pong, child care, and more! The weight room is well equipped and clean and with enough machines and weights that there's no wait even during peak times. My wife loves the classes and does a couple each visit! Decent value for your buck here. It has a lot of options: decent weight room, cardio deck, racquetball courts, basketball and an indoor pool. The cardio equipment is new. The weight room is a mix of old and new equipment. It has most of the machines & equipment you'd need with a few notable omissions (high row pulldown machine, for example). Pros: Lots of options, generally clean, decent equipment. Cons: The cost is somewhat higher than other gyms in the area, and they recently raised rates. Also, they're going through an interminably long renovation which apparently has no end in sight. One other observation: the average age of the clientele here is about 60 years old. This isn't that big of a deal, unless you're waiting for a piece of equipment and an old fellow wearing khakis hiked up to his armpits is monopolizing it. I suspect this has to do with the demographics of Germantown than anything else. The exercise classes seemed geared to this demographic: there aren't enough early morning or after work options. Most are scheduled during the work day. All in all this is a good option for a gym in the area, especially if you're going to use the pool, racquetball or basketball courts. If you just want cardio and weights, you might consider one of the many $15 a month gyms instead. read more

I am honestly surprised more people haven't reviewed this place. This is by far my favorite gym that I have ever attended. The price is reasonable (around $39 for an individual) and the facilities are incredible. An Olympic sized pool, plenty of fitness equipment (lots of ellipticals, treadmills, stair climbers, etc.) and a basketball court. I love this gym for the classes most of all. They have a boot camp almost every other day, a fantastic 30 minute ab lab, zumba (which I have yet to try), cycling (where you can almost always count on getting a bike) along with many other classes including Yoga and Pilate's. The variety and availability is what drew me to this gym- the instructors are what made me join. My only complaints: The Sunday hours. I think they close at 6 pm which is kind of early for me, but I can definitely overlook it with all of the other benefits. No towels. If this is the way they keep their prices down then I'm inclined to bring my own towel. Insider tip: If you decide to go early mornings during the week before work- coffee is good and free! I know it's not much, but it's the little things that make me happy. read more

This is the best value for your money as far as a gym goes. The facility is enormous with clean, top-of-the-line equipment. The club features racquet ball courts, a walking/jogging track, basketball courts, indoor and outdoor swimming pools and an outdoor splash pool for kids. In addition, they also have daily fitness classes at no extra charge, including yoga, Zumba classes, and spinning. There's a nutritionist on staff (by appointment) only, and there are locker rooms equipped with showers, saunas, hairdryers, televisions, and lockers. So I'm only giving 2 stars because this gym is really beautiful which is why I joined. However I am about to cancel my membership here. This gym is the most racist experience I have ever encountered. I've never in my life felt how I feel every single time I come work out. First off, there's ALWAYS a problem. My family and I are always given a hard time. My last time there they kept saying my payment hadn't processed. No matter how many times I tried to show the lady at the front desk , which she never identified herself as the manager until I asked for one, she wouldn't acknowledge what I was trying to show her. When I come in I see everyone being greeted by their names with friendly faces. Nobody ever greets us nobody even knows our names. Some of staff is really young and rude to us. I pay over 100 dollars a month for our membership not including what my mom is paying. I'm paying for my children to attend child care at a place where I don't even feel comfortable leaving them. They don't even want to stay. My husband told me when he dropped them off he didn't like how the lady handled them. I never saw. However, I did notice that when I took them to another gym the energy was TOTALLY different for a 35 dollar membership and my children are free. THEY LOVE THE GYM. And so do I. I'd certainly not as fancy as GAC, but I don't want to step foot in there anymore. My entire family is black with locs. We were already skeptical about joining because of our race and the location. I THOUGHT and insured my husband that we'd be fine, "just smile and be polite." It doesn't matter to them. We don't feel wanted or values from the staff down to the people who works out there. I didn't mind the people there being rude because the staff can't control that part, plus I only came to work out. So it was easy for me to do what I came to do and leave. I draw the like when I pay money just like everyone else. My money is equal so I expect to be treated as such. I will be leaving this gym and continuing to work out with my own kind. We just joined and I will start with the positive. The club has a great splash pad and pool for the kids. The club is not too expensive, but not cheap! The condition of the club is a little dirty. Bandaids in the pool dirty equipment etc. I was specifically told the kids center was open 7 days a week starting at 8 am. I showed up on Sunday and it didn't open until noon! Joined to get a good Sunday workout and that's not going to happen now. I wish the staff new more about their club. The weight room is way outdated and small! My fault there should have used it once before getting a membership. Lifetime Fitness is probably a better choice if you can afford it. read more

Joined because of attending Zumba and Dance Fusion. Both classes are fun and you are so happy dancing you don't even feel like you are working out! I wear a hear rate monitor and I promise you it burns calories! Once I joined I have been very happy with the staff here! Front desk, child care, trainers, and teachers---all are friendly and helpful! Must be the exercise endorphins! The pounds have started coming off which is the best compliment I know for this place! Cost is reasonable: $64/mo for single including child care. Safe and friendly child care. Fun classes and a variety of times to choose from. Indoor track. Indoor and outdoor pool. Racquetball courts and lots of cardio and weight equipment. Plenty of parking. Open 7 days, not all hours, but serves my purpose. I've been a member for over 10 years. I am a true fan. In addition to all the things mentioned in the other reviews (pools, hot tub, sauna, equipment, basketball, running track) the social aspect can't be overlooked. It is a friendly place, without pretension. People at all levels of fitness work out side by side. Some places tend to edge out the "less fit" and intimidate in the weight area. Not here. I've worked out here for years and the GAC has only improved with time- I love that they keep up with renovations and replace equipment every few years. The staff is always super helpful, the weight room is always clean and there's plenty of space no matter how many people are here. I absolutely love GAC! The classes that are offered are varied and provide a great, quality workout. We love going to the gym to workout just about as much as we love running, so that says a lot. Me and my wife have been members about 2 &1/2 years now. its one of the best if not the best value for money I've seen and I've been a member of quite a few gyms in my time. they are currently remodeling as of 2018 and should be done in a few months from what i can tell . they have most of all the things you would desire in a gym including fitness classes, a large gym with a great selection of free weights and machines, 2 basketball courts , 2 racquetball courts an indoor and outdoor swimming pool , a sauna , childcare which was remodeled recently , a walking track, cardio machines and free coffee hangout room . its a community and serious gym all rolled into one!! other things all for about $43/ month $74 joint membership fees .highly recommended!! just join okay! read more
