This gym has two floors. The first floor provides free weights and machines, tennis space, workout classes, and private areas for training, especially if self starting is challenging. The second floor includes cardio equipment such as treadmills, elliptical, stair master, and exercise bikes. The basketball court is now an additional weight area. Lockers are available if needed, but you'll need your own lock. There is also personal training, cycling, a pool, sauna and hot tub. Great gym and friendly staff but major warning - make sure to bring locks with you for when you put things in lockers I've had a lot of sh/t stolen from there. Warning #2 keep your car doors locked always double check I haven't had problem with anyone stealing from my car but I know ALOT of people from this gym who have gotten their stuff stolen/windows broken into. Tried getting a free one-time guest pass on their website, submitted several requests online, and it never went through. Then I spoke with a man over the phone who said it must be a glitch and I should just pay $15 for the day pass instead. I explained I'd like to have the one-day free pass (instead of $15) shown on their website and he pretty much said I was out of luck because there's nothing he can do. That was a shame; I moved on to different local gym options. He was nice enough I guess, but to not be able to honor the free pass the gym offers is pretty ridiculous. read more

This facility has all the amenities that many LA Fitness facilities have. This facility does not have a full track. The staff seems friendly. The gym is always crowded no matter what time it is. The locker room is clean but the bathrooms seems to always be dirty from other members leaving it a mess. When I come early in the morning, it is super clean but during the day it gets super dirty. The saunas are super hot and spacious, but not many members use it so it doesnt get crowded. I want to say that this location is clean by its not because members don't know how to clean up after themselves. I feel the need to constantly wipe down the machine before I use because someone left their dripping sweat on the machines to dry up. read more

Lamar's Boot Camp class is hands down the hardest and best cardio workout anywhere! Guess that's why it's packed! I travel all over so that's saying a lot too. It's like a hip hop insanity workout on fast forward. Sure wish it could be duplicated at other LA Fitness gyms. Rest of the gym looks pretty much like most other LA Fitness locations. read more

I frequent the polo grounds location and today I was ticketed for parking in a handicap spot close to the building. Upon arrival I noticed glass from cars that had apparently been broken into so I parked close. Walked in and asked the attendant at the desk do the cameras work, he said "yea they work". I responded, "Well there's a ton of glass out front from cars that have been broken into". He replied " we used to have security but the money started coming out of the manner manager's checks so they said forget it ". Good facility but your car is subject to being broken into. read more

The facility as a whole is nice but they took away the basketball rims due to an incident that happened at another location. Even though the other location has since opened their basketball courts back open, this location still has not and they refuse to give a reason as to why. I believe it's to keep more black people out of the facility to increase "moral". The staff are 50/50 and once it switched from LA Fitness to Eporta, they tried to charge me $200+ to switch from my $25 plan to the new $10 plan. Crime Committed on Property and Management is AWFUL First of all let me say my husband and I were big LA Fitness supporters when they opened their new Memphis locations. We are not complaining customers and I do not talk to management needlessly. That being said, I am stunned and disappointed at the company's flagrant disregard for the safety and care of LA Fitness customers. On March 12, 2015, I went to the Polo Grounds LA Fitness location in Memphis, Tenn. at 9:40 in the morning for a workout class like I do every week. However, when I left the gym, an hour later, and unlocked my truck, I discovered that someone had broken into my vehicle and tore out my radio system ($200 system) as well as stolen a few less-valuable items. In addition to the stolen items, there is significant damage to the passenger door and the key lock a busted from where they forced their way into the vehicle. All of this now has to be repaired or replaced. I went back inside the building and spoke to a manager who apologized for the incident and called the police for me. We have filed the police report, but it does not look promising as LA Fitness does not have security or security cameras, and there were no witnesses. The detective handling our case has stated that, even though this has happened many times at LA Fitness, the company refuses to put security cameras in their parking lot. It shocked me that a company who places a business in the 4th most criminally active city in the nation doesn't care enough about its customers or employees safety to protect them with any type of security. Since then, my husband and I have tried to reach the company and express our concerns about this issue, but an email didn't do anything. In fact, they didn't even read it, just retorted that they are not responsible for items left in your car. We didn't leave anything in the car and it WAS locked. A radio is hardwired in, therefore it IS part of the car! Next we tried contacting the managers at the facility directly. We were met with attitude and disdain and told they don't think they need security. In a last ditch effort, we contacted the corporate office once again via phone call. My husband spoke to the customer relations management and explained the situation. Again, our concerns were met with disdain. He told us that it was not the company's problem and they don't care about our experience. The conversation actually went as far as him saying he can't stand dealing with "you people." My husband couldn't take the extreme disrespect and ended up hanging up on him. It is a slap in the face to be a victim of a crime then to be treated like that by the company who allowed that crime to take place. I enjoyed and supported LA Fitness coming to Memphis. My husband and I were daily gym-goers and liked being customers of the company. However, since this crime was committed, we have not been back to LA Fitness and were seriously considering revoking our membership. However, this was not necessary because LA Fitness took the liberty of canceling our memberships without our approval. It has been made clear that this company cares nothing for the safety, security, or happiness of its customers. They have made it clear that the only thing management and corporate cares about is money and taking advantage of customers. This is not a matter of petty complaining over the business. It is a matter concerning a crime being committed on company property. They have been extremely rude, demeaning, and unprofessional and given us no resolution whatsoever. Please, save yourself the headache and DO NOT join LA Fitness. Search for other gym options who actually care about your well-being. read more

First let me state that my fiancé and I joined the LA fitness in Memphis off of hwy 64. We were excited to get started with a lifestyle change. After joining we are told that we have to do a fitness assessment with the personal trainers to judge our health, being told it's free we do so. So immediately after our health assessment we are sat down and told the trainers there will work with us once a week to get us in the shape we want to be in. A nice young guy named Jason sat down with us and put an offer on the table for 149$ a month per customer and we can work with you along with a 149$ initiation fee for the both of us. We say we would like to think about it. At this point a rather in shape man named Ian I believe(I don't remember his name honestly, but we'll stick with Ian to keep the characters straight) stands over us and says here's the deal we have for you. He starts writing numbers all over a piece of paper and says we'll give you an extra workout session per month to work with our trainers more and this is the best deal I can give you. Also, with this deal is a take it or leave situation. He could not offer it again and this was a one time deal. We agree to the 149$ introductory fee and and 149$ per person monthly fee and sign the contract which oh by the way you sign for one year so that they get their money. A few days later we both get charged 149$ intro fee and 149$ first month fee. 600$ right off the bat. Also written in the contract which I didn't catch that we feel we were strong armed into is after the first month it goes up to 199$ a month. I'm sure that number was written someone in the mix of numbers on the paper Ian showed us and we didn't catch it too because there was so much talked about. So now we pay 455$ a month to attend a gym that has yet to keep their promises. We were told we would be given homework to follow and we would work consistently with one trainer. The trainer we worked with once is moving and we were told by multiple trainers that they just don't like assigning homework to people to follow cause they can't really judge what the person can or can't do. Wasn't that what we got assessed for??? So now we pay 227.50 a month per person to not get what was advertised. On top of that the training sessions are 25 min, no more. Do the math... 50$ per session for 25 min 4 times a month. Essentially, your paying someone 2$ a minute to guide you through 2-4 workouts but no more than 25 minutes worth. So squeeze it in fast. Then we get the bill in preparation for our 2 nd month. I find out its going to be jumping to 199$ per person, I call on a Friday and ask to please cancel my personal training and I'm aware I signed a contract for it. The lady behind the counter said that they do this often and it shouldn't be a problem but the guy who handles isn't here call back later and I'll note your account. I call back Sunday and a gentleman answers, I don't remember his name and he says it shouldn't be a problem you just need to come in and do it in person. I say ok and visit Tuesday in person trying to get this handled before it drafts from our account. The lead personal trainer says there is nothing we can do and your just gonna have to pay for the rest of year or buy out at 50% cost. Another guy named Peter said let me talk to our District Manager and I can get it done with him. Peter at LA fitness is and was the only decent person through the entire process to work with, every one else was condescending and seemed more bent on making sure they have the money rolling in rather than pleasing the customer. After having the money withdrawn from our account, 400$ worth they have finally decided to run it up to Jeff Willet. I ask Peter to have Jeff Willet give me a call and say I can provide military orders within a few months that I will be working for the military on a temporary short term basis and maybe we can cancel the membership that way. The answer is No. They need orders that I will be moving there permanently and there need not be an LA fitness nearby as well. The best that Mr Willet could and can offer is 50% buyout in which case you still pay 2200$ regardless of the fact that we are not happy with the service given and felt completely strong armed into the agreement. This place is happier taking your money than they are pleasing their customers. While yes signing the contract was a mistake, I feel as though a company such as this should be willing to work with truly upset customers and they don't. I've mentioned it to friends and family and most are deterred enough to cancel their memberships while hopefully dropping my name to show how displeased they are as well and I encourage others to the same. Look at most other gyms, the DAC in the Memphis area doesn't make you sign a contract to work with their trainers, you can exit their personal training any time you wish, just call up and ask nicely and say that it's to much of a read more

Went to check out the fitness centre with my fillipino friend. They have practically all the facilities like swimming, saunna, tennis, volleyball, n all the machines. Most of all they hold classes too. Sam who showed us around was real nice n the mgr who explained the pricing is real friendly n make u feel at home. My friend signed up for the 2 yr contract that costs $29.99 a mth but u pay $60.00 upfront to cover the other mth. She is allowed to bring me along for 2 weeks as a guest.I will join her when my work schedule is not so uncertain in a week or two. read more

Look at most other gyms, the DAC in the Memphis area doesn't make you sign a contract to work with their trainers, you can exit their personal training any time you wish, just call up and ask nicely and say that it's to much of a financial burden and they work with you. They want to please you and make sure you happy. Not so at LA Fitness. They want your money and have made it clear to me that is all that they care about. Not that I'm completely upset and financially overwhelmed, they don't care and will not act to help you out. If you choose to pay someone 2$ a minute to show you 2-4 workouts and say have a good day once a week then go ahead but I'm confident you can find other gyms that work with you a lot better than this. Jeff Willet offering no apologies and no forgiveness at all except please pay us at least half should be an embarrassment to any company. Saying I wish we could of helped at least wasn't even mentioned. Even more so, if you lose your job, and struggle to put food on the table you are still expected to pay LA fitness. For two people the buyout is $2200. As long as LAfitness gets their money right? Corporate money grubbing company... You decide... My personal opinion, join LA fitness, its a nice facility but don't waste your time with the used car salesman type that offer personal training. You just won't get what you paid for,even better, find another gym if you can that works with you, all it takes is asking around. Our mistake shouldn't be your 1100$ mistake if your looking for personal training. The facility is new and clean. The training staff and front desk people are so nice as well. However, the sales people aren't the greatest, once you sign your contract they don't care about you. My contract person told me I can contact him if I had any questions any time and when I did, he didn't get back to me. HORRIBLE!!! My husband is a Captain in US Army, We Flew in from Hawaii, so we are on Vacation en route to our New Duty Station. They Don't Even have Deals for Guests that are Visiting from Out of Town...They Want $15/day per Person...a nice Worker named Maurice tried to help Us out by Giving us a 3-day pass Since we're Only in Town for Less than a Week. When trying to Use the Pass the General Manager of the Facility Rejected Us & said ONLY Locals are Allowed to Use This. Totally Understand the Reason for that but as General Manager he Should Have been More Willing to Help out Visitors! Or the Corporation should Offer Guests Pass...Even more Horrible; once the General Manager realized we're out of towners & not becoming Members he Pushed us off to Another Employee (she was very helpful & understood our frustration) & he Walked Away... read more

The facility is new, the equipment is state of the art, and the hours are convenient. The staff is nice, but they are selling a product. The pitch to new members for a free personal assessment is a preamble to the hard sell of their personal trainer sessions. It's not like they bullied me, but it was a tactical high pressure sell. Hours after signing on, I read the contract, and I quickly took the 96 hour out clause. I sent the request to their headquarters. Just didn't want to face the pressure from their sales staff. The money was quickly credited (just as swiftly as they had withdrawn it). Now I am enjoying my workouts with a coworker as support. Peak hours are 5pm to 6:45pm, but you have access to the machines and other activities. They have so many classes to vary the exercise regimen. I would've given five stars, but the sign up was mixed...they gave me a good deal at the onset, only to try to up it beyond my budget with the personal trainer stuff. I was mislead on the personal training. I was told I could cancel the service at any time and was not able to without paying the buy out for the rest of the remaining year. I used the service for 3 months. During that time I made plans via text with my trainer to meet most days of the week at 6am. More time than not he would cancel due to "nosebleeds" or "doctor's appts". I was recommended another trainer in his place. We worked out once together. During the middle of that session I couldn't breathe and it took 30 min for me to regulate my breathing and was not able to drive myself home. I told the front desk I wanted to cancel because I was not happy with the services provided and was told I could not unless I paid the remaining $600 owed for the year. I was not aware I had signed a contract stating this commitment but they produced documents where I had when I initially went in to add it to my membership. I do remember signing an electronic keypad several times but made clear to the head of training that I only wanted to try it out for a few months to learn the machines and continue on my own. I feel I was coerced into blindly signing electronic forms. Because of my horrible experience at this establishment, I stopped going to LA completely and signed up at Planet Fitness, forfeiting my entire year's membership that I paid in full. I was extremely disappointed because I did enjoy the classes, basketball court and machines. Those amenities are not enough to overcome my resentment and return. read more
