A really good Honduran restaurant in Chicago! Something we have been looking for for a long time. Pleasantly surprised with the food, really authentic. Start off with Jugos de natural (natural juices) either w or w/o leche (milk) I had the carne asada dinner (skirt steak) which comes with beans, rice, salad, cheese, avocado and tortilla. The meat was a little wrk done, so you should tell them in advance how you want it cooked. Each Sunday they have a different soup available for purchase (sopas de fin de semana). The restaurant is small and very casual, it looks like they have a very brisk carryout business. I want to go back here to try one of the fish dinners and one of those special soups that are only available on Sundays.

Arguably, the best bargain in town! To the Casual Observer, this may seem like any other typical Hispanic restaurant, but a meticulous and adventurous Diner, will quickly notice some differences. Like the sides of Yuca instead of potatoes, the chismol dressing and the cabbage salad, to accompany the meat of your choice. The "Baliadas": a simple street food (like a taco) usually served in early morning in Honduras, but available any time at Savor Catracho. Try one of the weekend specials, such as the "Sopa de Res" (beef and bone marrow soup) or the "Mondongo" ( an elaborate tripe soup with optional coconut).  Some specials are only available one weekend per month. Try the "Yuca con Chicharron", the "Tamales", the fish or chicken dishes; and be prepared to be impressed. My only complaint is that, for my taste, they tend to overcook the meats, my suggestion would be to ask them to cook it medium.

After living in Honduras for a year, my wife and I craved some Baliadas - a typical street food (similar to a Mexican Taco).

The Aji de Gallina (from the menu: "Chicken in walnut sauce. Served with potato, boiled egg and white rice") was incredibly good, although it didn't taste like walnuts to me. Doesn't matter, I'd get it again. Service was great, our server was very nice and attentive. We went at a random time so we were the only people there. Music was not loud or non-existent (thank you). Hoping to go back again soon!

Excellent. The pollo saltado - chicken stir fried with onions and tomatoes. The sauce poured over French fries, so they soak in all the juices. A side of white rice makes for the perfect side. Rotisserie chicken - this was the reason we came, and damn did it deliver. Incredibly moist and full of flavor. The green pepper sauce it comes with pairs perfectly. It's got a little subtle kick to it. The staff was great and super friendly. Food came out quick and was so fresh. Prices are super reasonable, and portions are large. The dining room is large and comfortable but no frills - the focus is on the food, as it should be.

Learned that the stew express meals mentioned on their website are no longer available. Update the website then? The stews with two sides are still available but their pricing has more than doubled and portions are small like lunch specials. I wonder if dining in is why most reviews are five starred. Need to try that way sometime. Ordered two stew meals. Lamb (awesome that they offer this protein) & chicken. Lamb was properly stewed and easy to eat. The chicken was boring in flavor and hardly any gravy was included. Smh. The carryout container has three sections. One for the "main" and two sides. Alas, they fill the main section with a big ass amount of rice. Then fill the side areas with stew and your second option. Stews are in the $22-26 range. They have to reconsider how they're serving. I mean, stew needs its gravy to go with all that rice and the portion should be significantly larger. Due to the niceties of their staff and the flavors, I'd check them out again. Dine-in.

So our server stated that our first-choice food selections were not available (steak jibarito and beef arepa) so instead we then ordered empanadas (one beef, one shrimp) and the chuleta valluna. We noticed that the kitchen was slingin' some massive plates of food, so we decided to split the one entree and the empanadas. Well the server comes along and says they are out of shrimp empanadas. How can a restaurant be out of so many food items when it is barely past 1PM? We decided to do just the single entree and the single empanada. I also ordered a can of Inca Kola (good stuff, though I had to beg for the drink after our food was served), and we did get some ice water. The beef empanada was AOK, not bad. The chuleta valluna features a massive flattened breaded pork chop along with many items (rice, fries, yuca fries, tostones, yellow potato, salad). The menu mentioned this dish would also have sweet plantain, but perhaps the yuca fries were a sub for the sweet plantain. I gotta admit, the food overall is pretty good. The service from the staff was pleasant, but there was always something "off" during our dining experience. When the bill came, we were charged for the shrimp empanada that was not being served, so we had to ask for a corrected bill to deduct the missing empanada. Overall we had extremely mixed feelings about our lunchtime here. Perhaps it was just a super busy day here, but I am feeling overly generous with my three-star review.
