Went to this new rebranded Ecuadorian restaurant called La Humita Express. Reminded me of home cooked meals made by my late grandma. The food was quick and fast. I gobbled up the whole plate.

Volveremos! :)

This is a hidden gem. A small family owned bistro style setting. We arrived at 10 p.m. and the owner greeted us like family. Everything that we ate was delicious. My compliments to the owner and his staff. We ordered the cheese and beef empanadas to start the evening, followed by a light pea soup. The main entrees were the Seco de Chivo and the Limoto Saltado. Wonderfully prepared and not heavy on the Latin spices. Delicious!

We were on our way home to Indy from the Oshkosh Airshow and decided to eat at an Ecuadorian Restaurant. So I searched Yelp on my iPhone and this place showed up with mostly decent reviews so we made a stop in Chicago. Parking is a pain. 'nuf said on that. The place is nicely decorated and the greeting was warm and friendly. Our waitress was great, very friendly and explained anything we didn't understand. For an appetizer we had Maduros fritos con queso fresco which looks beautiful in the photos. The plantains were great, however, we expected the cheese to be melted on the plantains and not cubed sitting next to them. The cheese was a disappointment. We also had Ceviche de camaron that was very good. I enjoyed it a lot but I kept the nuts on the side. I'm not a nut person. For an entree I had the Churrasco and I really liked it a lot. They use a "flat iron steak (who renamed a steak cut with this silly name)" so it's not the most tender cut of beef, but wow, does it have flavor. My wife makes this at home and it's my favorite. I could eat it everyday. I really liked this place, it had a lot of character and the food was good. I'll go back anytime I'm in Chicago, 'cause I don't like pan pizza :-P

La Humita has awesome Ecuadorian food! My friend who is from Ecuador recommended this place so that right off the bat meant this place had to be good! Its a small cozy restaurant where the waiter makes you feel at home. They have awesome lunch specials and the portions are very generous. I also just noticed they make smoothies there which were great for a warm afternoon (had the Guanabana smoothie and tried the tree tomato fruit juice). Great local restaurant in the area that I will definitely visit again in the future!

The Empanada off the Appetizer Menu. Perfect crust, the meat wasn't overseasoned, and was made to order and cooked perfectly.

-I was welcomed graciously upon arrival. -Water and bread was on my table within seconds. -The food was always hot, seasoned well, and fresh. -The owner and staff were kind, humorous, and you could tell they had no issues treating you as a person than just a customer. -The kitchen was closed, but they opened it back up for me just so I could order two more things. Amazing. Now that is what I call customer service. If you ever have a bad experience here, I can promise you it was a mistake. They are the kind of restaurant that will go out of their way to make a customer happy. I definitely recommend La Humita to anyone looking for a lively night out for some classic Ecuadorian dishes, or just straight up delicious food.

Awesome service, Ecuadorean food, drinks and atmosphere! I literally just ate here and I couldn't wait to come here and say how wonderful they are! As we entered the restaurant we were immediately greeted by the owner. He himself took care of us and offered us a variety of drinks. We started with the cheese and ground beef empanadas and then we were surprised by the owner with a warm and flavorful soup after he heard we were hung over. We also ate the ceviche and carne asada, and flan, lots of flavor! Overall, this place is a wonderful find... Amazing service!!! Amazing prices!! And most of all well hidden. One of the best restaurants in Chicago and yes it is not downtown and pretentious and it doesn't have to be in order to be one of the best restaurants in Chicago!

So our server stated that our first-choice food selections were not available (steak jibarito and beef arepa) so instead we then ordered empanadas (one beef, one shrimp) and the chuleta valluna. We noticed that the kitchen was slingin' some massive plates of food, so we decided to split the one entree and the empanadas. Well the server comes along and says they are out of shrimp empanadas. How can a restaurant be out of so many food items when it is barely past 1PM? We decided to do just the single entree and the single empanada. I also ordered a can of Inca Kola (good stuff, though I had to beg for the drink after our food was served), and we did get some ice water. The beef empanada was AOK, not bad. The chuleta valluna features a massive flattened breaded pork chop along with many items (rice, fries, yuca fries, tostones, yellow potato, salad). The menu mentioned this dish would also have sweet plantain, but perhaps the yuca fries were a sub for the sweet plantain. I gotta admit, the food overall is pretty good. The service from the staff was pleasant, but there was always something "off" during our dining experience. When the bill came, we were charged for the shrimp empanada that was not being served, so we had to ask for a corrected bill to deduct the missing empanada. Overall we had extremely mixed feelings about our lunchtime here. Perhaps it was just a super busy day here, but I am feeling overly generous with my three-star review.

We even brought a birthday cake, and I appreciated that the restaurant had put up birthday balloons and a sign for the occasion. Unfortunately, what should have been a memorable celebration quickly turned into one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. Everything was going well until our meals arrived. Three people in our party ordered salmon, yet all three were served white fish instead. After waiting an exceptionally long time for our food and repeatedly trying to get our server's attention as she continuously walked past our table, we were finally able to explain that the wrong fish had been served. Rather than apologizing or simply correcting the mistake, the situation escalated into something completely unacceptable. The server summoned the cook, who came out to our table and immediately began arguing with us. Instead of listening to the guests, she insisted that she personally prepared the dishes and repeatedly stated that she knew she had cooked salmon. She then brought frozen raw fish from the kitchen--including frozen white fish and frozen salmon--to our table. She held the raw fish inches from my brother's face, who happens to be a professional chef, repeatedly saying, "Do you see this? Do you see that?" This behavior was not only confrontational and humiliating, but also a complete violation of basic sanitation and food-handling standards. Raw food should never be brought into a dining room and used as a prop during an argument with customers. All we wanted was for someone to acknowledge that the incorrect fish had been served. Instead, we were treated as though we were ignorant and dishonest. Rather than resolving the issue professionally, your staff chose to argue, embarrass us publicly, and create an uncomfortable scene for the entire restaurant to witness. The cook eventually stated that all three fish entrées would be removed from our bill and told us to stop eating them. We believed the matter had finally been resolved. Unfortunately, it only got worse. Read pictures for rest of review
