I was in the market to get my taxes done, looking for a CPA to do them since they're a little over the level of trust I have in myself to not screw up with Turbo Tax. I saw the great reviews for Esquire Tax Solutions on Yelp and sent an email to start up our relationship which I thought for sure would be great and I'd use them every year. Kent was quick to email back but unfortunately it seemed quite obvious he didn't care about gaining my business. He didn't answer a single one of my questions and instead responded by asking me one question about a minor detail I'd included in the email that introduced my financial situation. The worst part was that the (literally) one sentence long email had enough typos and was really just a fragmentary sentence so I couldn't comprehend exactly what info he was trying to gleam...I just knew it was asking for something because it ended in a question mark. Realizing that Kent had probably responded via his phone (because apparently my business doesn't warrant him sitting down and actually writing a proper email to me), I tried to ask follow up questions to understand his. For the second time responded in fragmentary sentences without addressing anything specific to the taxes I'd asked if he'd be able to prepare. Again, I replied trying to understand what additional information he needed so we could start prepping my taxes. No response. Nine days from my last correspondence I get this email (this is the entire text): "Hello...just following up on this." However, he wasn't actually following up to any of the continued questions I had and he had replied to my FIRST email. At no point in any of this email chain were any of my direct questions answered. Not only is that a bad business practice, but it's poor customer service and just down right rude. Sorry but if someone can't type a coherent sentence to me or read and answer simple questions, I don't trust them with all of my personal financial information or to have the expertise to properly and completely prepare my taxes. No response from an electronic inquiry via Yelp so I called. Although my tax situation is not simple, others have been able to discuss over the phone what the possible cost will be to do my taxes. Kent was fairly clear that my situation (I sold a house and had made some improvements that I think can reduce my capital gains taxes) did not lend itself to him being able to provide a quote, not even an order of magnitude quote. Are there other people who hire a tax professional without any indication of a quote? He may be a wonderful tax preparer, but without some kind of quote I won't be using him! read more

Where do I begin...Kent SAVED me when I had been relying on another accountant who left me high and dry and with less than 72 hours to submit my tax returns. Without going into any details about that horrible situation, suffice it to say that I had a VERY complex tax return this year (complicated overseas income, investment real estate income, multi-state income, deductions for international move and charitable contributions, etc. etc.)...and I needed someone who could competently handle it. Oh, and do it in less than 72 hours (see note above re: very bad situation). Kent called me personally less than one hour after I e-mailed him, and he was in constant communication with me - even over the weekend - just so that we could submit my returns in time. NIGHT AND DAY from my experience with every previous accountant I've ever used. He didn't charge extra for the multiple state returns he ended up having to submit, or for the URGENT rush nature of my request. Additionally, Kent understood all the complexities of my situation, and in one instance, when it was a very complicated question about international income being recognized in multiple years, he researched all about it and showed me what the current ruling was on that particular matter (sending me links and highlighting what the IRS said about it). The man is a rockstar. I will never ever EVER use another accountant again in my life, and I will be sending all of my friends and family his way. I paid this attorney money to handle my relatively simple tax matters and after he received the money I did not hear from him again, without my efforts to communicate. When I confronted him that my taxes had not been completed timely, he was rude, obnoxious and I think that he had been drinking and hung the phone up. I'm surprised that he has a license to practice law. This person is dangerous and I strongly suggest that you find someone else to help you. read more
