With a new tax bill passed & the un-likelihood of having a postcard-sized return, I've been thinking about my 2018 taxes that will be filed in 2019 already, even though I have yet to tackle 2017 taxes. Though I no longer live in the area, I recall the nine or ten years of excellent service I received after finding Steve Kahn to do my 2004 returns. I had bought what was then a rental property & had no clue how I'd tackle that from a tax perspective. I got Steve's company from one of those slips in Val-Pak that came in the mail each month. Since his office was in close proximity, that was as good a reason to start my tax preparer search there. One phone conversation was enough to convince me to look no further. Besides being a CPA, he said he also owned some rental property. And for as long as he did my returns, I had no complaints or bad experiences. I received timely service with pin-point accuracy. Around 2014, he opted to sell his business to another CPA & go on hiatus, which was certainly his right. The other CPA started off well (with Steve coaching him), but over time, his service went downhill. My recommendation --- if Steve is back doing tax returns, hire him. We have for a few years now been using the services of Steve Kahn to prepare our taxes and are very happy. He is excellent - affordable, attentive, smart, organized and friendly. Because of his great work with families on their taxes (i.e. nanny taxes) many of the "Alexandria Old Town Moms" rave about him and use his services (which is how we originally started using him.) His office is conveniently located in a quiet complex just off Duke Street and Quaker Lane. On a personal level, he will always make time to talk to you on the phone or e-mail even in the middle of busy tax season.
