We met Joe Carabia back in 2005. This was our first patio design with this company. Joe is great along with his staff and workers. Every two to three years we have had our patio maintained. I signed up with this Company at the end of 2021. I was told by the Salesman that they were behind and that they would get to it within 4 months. I was Ok with that up front so no problem there. Finally called as it was 4 1/2 months and had not heard from anyone and they finally made an appointment. They came and on the surface did a good job on the Driveway. Told me to wait about 12 working days before driving on it which I did. Not 2 months after that the driveway began to crumble at the edges. I called and was told by Sally that they were slammed and that someone would be coming by unannounced to look at the problem. That was on 6/27/2022 and as of today 9/11/2022 I have not heard from this Company. I will have to assume that this Company are scam artist and shyster and will have to sue to get my money back. I can't speak to the quality of their work, but hands down I have never in my life as a professional been so rudely spoken to by this company. Their lack of professionalism is unparalleled. I'm the President of our Condo board and we are looking to have our deck 3000 SQ Feet redone or stripped and completely redone based on need. Originally, I called and left a message after hours for this company and they never got back to me. A subsequent follow-up secured an appointment 9 days in the future for an assessment of our property between 12-1PM. At 1230PM day of the appointment we were called to let us know he was running late. Nice Gentlemen Alex showed up and I provided him with all the previous documentation of what we thought may needed to be done. He indicated he would take it under advisement and get us a proposal on Friday Aug 31st. Due to Hurricane Dorian's unknown path they remained closed until this morning when I called to ask nicely if Alex would be sending a proposal. The Gentlemen I assume the owner proceeded to tell me "We don't Do Proposals we only do presentations because if you are only looking for numbers and are not going to allow us to do a presentation, then we won't doing a proposal" I explained this was not my understanding with Alex and he then began to raise his voice and condescends to me like I was in the 5th grade. He raised his voice again stating I was misinterpreting what he said and, when I called him out on his quote, he got even more belligerent than simply hung up on me. Glad to know exactly what I would have been dealing with if we had used this company for our project. As stated, I have no idea if their work is good, great or unbelievable. For All I know they could be the best at what they do, but any company that is unprofessional, rude, condescending and outright belligerent will never get an opportunity to perform work for our company. I put 100% trust in this company when I signed the contract for the completion of a job encompassing my entire property. Trying to retain contractors with a great reputation in Florida is a challenge. When I first contacted this company, the professionalism was unsurpassed, so I jumped at the chance to sign with them to secure the job. When I met with the owner and project manager initially, my mom had recently died, and I had a huge project with the home I was renovating (my mom's), and I desperately needed the help. They painted the picture of being a service-oriented company, and I took the bait... big mistake. When I initially contacted ESS, the response time was immediate. Especially, when signing off on the job and collecting checks. It is now six months later, and receiving any real information is non-existent. I am being bread-crumbed (for lack of a better word), and the latest excuse is being placed on a third party engineer who is due to complete specs. At this point, I don't believe anything I am told anymore, and I have to cancel other existing projects I have had scheduled. I'll be seeking legal counsel to deal with this appropriately as well as the City. The poor service of this company doesn't just make me angry, it saddens me. I trusted them. ***Update 6/10/22 - I promised I would edit my review upon completion of this project and unfortunately, that's what I'm doing, but without a completed project. I REFUSE to have this company work on my property. My respect for the project manager and compassion for anyone in sales and service is genuine, but my disgust for this company is to the core. Months late to begin the project, thousands of dollars paid, their "foreman" shows up two hours late to begin a job, because he said he couldn't get helpers (yet they say they don't use day labor or subcontractors), and the logistics weren't even planned in advance to execute the job. As a professional, I have certain expectations and this company is such a disappointment to any expectations I had for them. I didn't even get a courtesy call that the "foreman" was going to be late (and had breakfast all set for the supposed team that was scheduled to do the work). In my world, you're hired to do a job, and say your start time is at 8, you're there and prepared well before to begin promptly and with the necessary tools to execute the planned task(s) for the day. I had to call and text multiple times for an 8am scheduled start with the "foreman" showing up almost two hours later. So, I fired them on the spot! Like I told the PM today, I'll dig out the yard with a spoon and bucket, but they will NOT be getting my business. I am saddened that this happened, because again, I should have fired them months ago, but I trusted them, and respected the PM. If I could give zero stars, I would. My wife and I contacted European Sculptured Stone to see what our options were on upgrading out pool patio which was in bad shape and what we chose and the work that was done was absolutely exquisite. First, their salesman continually lied to me about when he was pulling the permit from the City which caused a month delay. Then the salesperson told me I couldn't get the herringbone design I wanted but when I spoke to the owner of the company I found out I could get the design I wanted. Next, their concrete guys made the permanent lines in my driveway as if they were drunk. The lines are crooked and there is nothing that can be done unless I want to rip up the driveway and pour entire new concrete. Then, when ESS was finished they came for their final payment. I said, "NO, not till you pass the City's inspection." They tried to tell me they didn't need to get any inspection. If you pull a permit, you always need a final inspection. Well, the City came out to inspect, and guess what? IT FAILED INSPECTION! So, the bottom quarter of the circular driveway on each side had to be dug up and re-poured and new top coat. Now 1/4 of the driveway does not match the rest of the driveway and it looks horrible. The only option is to re do the whole thing and I can't afford it. The company says it looks fine and it's the best they can do. If that is the best they can do, DO NOT USE THEM! read more

ESS came out in mid-May, 2015. Joe came to our home and was extremely knowledgeable, professional, and polite. Having already had a few consults, we felt he knew what he was talking about. I had read in other reviews that people had to wait a long time for them to be able to do their job, but their work was so amazing it was worth the wait. He was certainly not the lowest quote we received, but I'm the type of person willing to pay a little more for perfection. So we wrote him the check for the deposit and were given a window of 5 - 8 weeks for a start time. Joe asked if we were comfortable with the payment schedule (1/3 now, 1/3 at the start of work, 1/3 at completion once you are 100% satisfied), we said yes. This would be the only contact we had with Joe.  Little did we know that we would never see or speak to him again. Work actually commenced on my pool deck 69 days (almost 10 weeks) later. I happened to be home very sick the day they started work. I pulled up to my house on day 69 to find two men waiting outside. I crawled out of my vehicle, me and my 102 degree fever, to be approached by a man that said "Hi, I need to collect a payment." Not hello, my name is so and so, we're here to start work..." Nope, "I need a payment" were the first words out of his mouth. I said you'll have to give me a minute. I was exhausted, sweaty, I needed a shower, to rinse my throat (as it turns out I have strep throat), and I told him I think I need to speak with Joe. I went inside, took a quick shower only to come out to have someone simultaneously knocking on my door and calling my cell. I answered the phone only to have the extreme mis-pleasure of speaking with Steven in their front office. Steven had to be the biggest (insert seriously not nice word here) I've ever spoken with. Barely having a voice I tried to explain to him that I needed to call Joe (only to see that there's no number for him on his business card, only the main office number). Steven proceeded to completely berate me and tell me that he was going to pull the guys off of the job is I didn't pay the second installment immediately! He went on to say a myriad of horrible things to me and be as completely unprofessional as possible. I asked him if I would be given the chance to speak and he shouted "No! You pay me or I am pulling these guys!" I said if you pull them when can I expect my deposit to be refunded? He said "That's not how a deposit works!" I wanted to speak with Joe because I was not comfortable shelling out another payment when ZERO work had been done. NONE!! He asked if I was comfortable, well now I wasn't comfortable. Steven made it clear that "Joe is NOT CALLING YOU!" He doesn't have time for this." Even in the rude world we live in, Steven takes the cake. Now I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. I needed the work done, I already knew they were difficult to deal with (from the many reviews I had already read), I couldn't afford to be out almost $2,500 (which I don't think I would have been, but do I have time to litigate this), and by most accounts from reviewers online the end result was worth it. Me being too tired and not feeling well, I pulled out the checkbook and paid the man. So now I am on my way to a new pool deck. The job took two full weeks to complete. I had to watch over the guys there the ENTIRE step of the way. They two gentlemen that actually performed the work were polite and professional. However, we did not get what we asked for. We got something similar but not entirely what we asked for. I fought and had to have an eagle eye the entire job. Here's the kicker. The way their contract is written they won't put the seal coat on until you've made the final payment. But I'm supposed to be 100% satisfied before the final payment and he said "They'll make us leave the job unfinished if you don't pay right now." Well as it turns out, I am not 100% satisfied. The design isn't entirely what we asked for, the color is certainly not the color I asked for, and the small pin holes left behind once the seal had been put on, cover my deck. We definitely overpaid for the end result we got. I'm incredibly disappointed and I feel ripped off. I for one work way too hard for my money to be spoken to be treated this way. MY E.S.S. EXPERIENCE AND WHAT IT TAUGHT ME: I contacted European Sculptured Stone to do some work on my patio they left the job poorly finished... and they never returned my phone calls or showed up when promised... to finish what they said they would do... had to hire someone else to finish the job they could/would not do... not to mention that I had to wait forever for them and paid a lot of money for poor quality work that left my wife and I quite dissatisfied with the outcome... if you are thinking of using them... here is some advice: do your own research on the PRODUCTS they USE... and what is required to IMPELEMENT them SUCESSFULLY... you will not be sorry you did this.... also I would look into other solutions for the same money you plan on spending... you will be surprised about how many other solutions look and last much better for the money....you should talk to a few other contractors before you decide to use this company as well.... honestly, I WISH I DID!!!!
