Her lovingly made cakes and tarts are sure to impress the socks off any dinner party guests. And don't you think you'll walk out of there with just a salad. Oh no, you'll do well not to give in to the temptation of a mouth-watering pastry or brownie. Go on, just try and not fall victim to those tasty morsels. I dare you. I was around Buranda waiting to pick someone up nearby but had some time to kill so, I decided to drop into the Essence café. It did look like just another coffee shop but I was impressed with the quality of the cappuccino that I got. It was hot when I got it and did not just taste like warm milk with a hint of coffee. The food that they serve is good as well with a good range for breakfast and lunch. They also have a menu that's more suited in a restaurant with things like salt and pepper squid, pizza wraps and house style curries which is not normally something you see in a café. The food is really good and even though I only had a starter which was a bruschetta it was still good and fresh. I only found out by being there that they were a catering service too and based on the food they serve in the café I am sure the catering service will be good as well. The tables are set very close together to the point where I can tell you the business of all the diners who sat near us. The menu is a little expensive for what I would consider to be bistro style food. We settled on the beer battered Fish and Chips for twenty-one bucks a plate. It was well presented and tasted fresh but it didn't stand out from any other fish and chip plate I have had in the past. The customer service was friendly but in a superficial kind of way, I didn't feel like my experience was really all that important to them. It was nice to be able to walk off the stodgy fish and chips along the boardwalk afterwards. Good option if all the fish and chip shops are closed or too busy.

Thursday night was wine-and-cheese night, and we scored a generous cheese platter and two glasses for a bargain price, I believe it was $35. I wish I had eaten more of the canapes we provided at our party, as the antipasti platters were heaving, and knowing the food is good I regret not fighting more people out of the way while I was busy mingling with our guests! I went next to the kitchen, where I overheard someone in the kitchen. The head chef (initials JS) went on a foul-mouthed tirade, complaining: "F#%k me, I hate these people asking for things well done. I don't give a Sh*t about my job. I cook so much better for my dog." I was disgusted. When the burger came back, I refused to eat it, how could I trust it hadn't been tampered with after that? I raised this with the manager, who did absolutely nothing, said sorry, just smiled and walked away. This place is a joke. When I enquired about who that person in the kitchen was, to my dismay, it was the head chef that I witnessed with that disgusting behaviour. The chef clearly doesn't care, the manager has no backbone, and the customers are treated like garbage. Avoid this place. Don't waste your money or risk your health. Short on time, special…read moreoccasiosn and the stakes are high, or just out to impress; Sharyn and her daughter are who you are going to call for a cheese board to keep the fussiest of tastebuds delighted. Case in point. For a recent event I could have easily constructed cheese and charcuterie myself. But, after following TCP on Instagram and drooling over their cheese-prowess, I threw caution to the wind and outsourced that shizz. And you know what? No regrets. After briefing Sharyn on the number of guests, the style of event and what kind of crowd we'd be entertaining the creation of my cheese boards was left in very capable hands. Sharyn arrived on the night about an hour before showtime (enough time to let the cheese warm to room temp, she said) and set about creating the cheese that would indeed please an audience. The price for the boards includes cheese, charcuterie, bread and crackers. Plus all instruments for eating (cheese knives and boards). For the lack of stress alone it was worth every penny. Plus I don't think I've ever seen two cheese boards devoured with such ferocity. On a side note, if you want to meet and try the delights of TCP but don't have an excuse to feature them at an event, they have a stall at the Powerhouse Jan Power's Markets each week.
