Favorite range around Morris county. Nothing special. Knowledgeable staff, great pricing & free rental clubs. They aren't a Top Tracer range, so no tracking, but if you aren't trying to get your stock yardages, that isn't really necessary. You know whether you hit the ball well or not. If you're going for the mini golf, I would find a different range. They need to fix the greens on almost every hole! The practice putting/chipping greens is also in pretty rough condition! read more

I'd like to start this off with this: i'm a top 10 customer at this range, visiting 2-3 times a day, every day, all summer long. I've been coming to this range every night between 9-10pm for the last month with no issue for my night practice. (They usually turn the lights off between 9:55-10:00 so I always make sure I'm done by then). Today, I showed up at 9:25 to hit a few balls before closing. The older gentleman informed me that tonight (8/10/24), which just so happens to be a Saturday night, the driving range closed at 9pm, and ball machines were off already. He was really rude about it acting like they do this every night when that is not the case. Thankfully a kind gentleman overheard the conversation and was wrapping up and donated me the rest of his balls so I was still able to hit. I also saw the man turn down multiple other customers coming in. However, the older gentleman still proceeded to hover over me the entire time, walking up and down the aisle and stalking my every move as well as the other 2 people there. This was definitely a very uncomfortable experience. I will no longer be attending this driving range at night, and I suggest you avoid it too. read more

Essex Country Driving Range is due for a revamp. My father and I decided to go to the driving range today to loosen up and get ready for the golf season. Having been patrons for years, there are a couple glaring issues that hold this place back. Here are a few takeaways and some useful info from my experiences here: -The customer service here is spotty at best. The tall gentleman with the gray hair who works the cash register inside during the early weekdays isn't the nicest guy you'll ever meet. Instead of greeting you, he'll often just stare you down just to see if you'll pay inside. -If you are interested in doing the 2 for 1 bucket deal, make sure to mention it at the desk. The employees will not remind you about it, I know from past experience. Also, there are some conflicting information on how the 2 for 1 deal works as of recently. There is a sign by the road near the entrance that advertises that the 2 for 1 deal happens Mon-Thurs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. while on the website it says the deal ends before noon. The lack of clarity can be troublesome especially if this is your first visit. I wouldn't chance going after noon. -The quality control is lacking. The putting green holes are in serious need of maintenance and there are some hitting mats that could use some work as well. Furthermore, the employees in charge of the range ball picker are just going through stalls and it shows. These types of shortcuts may be easier on the employee but are unappealing to the patron. -The mini golf course is actually the best part for me. If you are going out on a date or with a couple of friends, I'd say you'd have a good time playing mini golf here. There are some nice hole setups and a degree of difficulty compared to some of the straightforward ones you might find down by the shore. -If you are looking for a golf lesson, I've heard positive things about the teaching professionals that work here. When I paid for a lesson a few years back the teaching professional I had was attentive and helpful. -Ample parking is available so that's not a concern. There is also a stoplight next to the entrance so you can't miss it. FINAL THOUGHTS When it comes down to it, I would have to rate this place 2.5 stars if I could. Due to issues with quality control and spotty customer service, I lean towards 2 stars because there is so much room for improvement. If they address some of these areas of concern, I think it could go a long way in having patron satisfaction and return business. Until that happens, you may be better suited to try elsewhere. read more

The place is easy to get to, plenty parking. It has covered and open air booths. $10 small bucket. The driving mat was in good shape. The area where it needs to be better is the field where the balls land. It is very poorly marked w yardage markers. Also at about 200 yards out the ground is hard to see due to the slope and built up mounds at the short distances. So on many drives u never see your ball hit the ground. Since if lacks yardage signs u never know how far your hit went. read more

Essex Driving Range has been sitting next to 280 for as long as I can remember. It's a solid driving range; some ranges at a reasonable price, a small connected golf store, and a moderately sized miniature golf area. Nothing fancy like Top Golf, just the basics. If that's all you want, this place fits the bill with a low key and chill vibe. read more

I was looking for Mini Golf options in Northern NJ and saw that Essex had some good reviews. I also saw that there was a Groupon for this place ($9 for 1 round of golf for 2 and $15 for 1 round of golf for 4). We arrived there at around 3 pm and there was lots of parking in the lot. We presented our Groupon to the front desk and it was honored without any issues. We were given golf clubs, balls and a scorecard. The mini golf course was fairly small but the holes themselves were harder than most we have done with lots of obstacles and hills...though the course condition was in pretty bad shape. Now, I don't know if I can hold this against them since there was some pretty heavy rain the night before, but entire course was very messy with debris all over the place. The course was also very slippery with the "dirt" from the course seeping through the green. As I mentioned before, this could all be due to the heavy rain the day before, but in that case the course should have probably been closed for the day. The leaves, dirt and rocks on the holes made putting very difficult. There are a few ponds throughout the course and I did appreciate that they had poles available to fish your balls out in the event your ball falls into the water. Overall we had a good experience, but I would really like to return to see if the conditions are better. read more

Popped in here to an after-work event. A pizzeria serving pies in the restaurant with a decent size and price available. A mini-golf course. And of course, the range where people are clobbering buckets of balls. There's a practice putting green, too. They can also provide golf experts. A quarter of the balls were fit for the garbage. $15 for 150 balls not a bad price but the balls are awful. Don't know when or if I'll be returning. What happened. Also the pro shop is non existent. I went by myself to the driving range as a COVID-friendly activity. I had a great time, so I wanted to call out the good and the bad: The Good: - No membership, no card, no issues getting in as a random person regardless of golf experience. You can go in and start driving without ever standing in a line or even talking to a person. - Tons of parking - Free random clubs to borrow in the pro shop. Mostly irons and a lot of clubs in bad shape, but it's free and easy, you literally just grab what you want and go. They had disinfecting wipes there too - Good price, $15 for a giant 150-ball basket, which should last a long time (lasted me 90 minutes or so including short breaks) - Good number of bays to spread out, some are covered some are not The Bad: - None of the staff was wearing masks, even in the indoor pro shop - The golf balls in rotation for the range were in generally bad shape and super dirty - FYI The 2-for-1 bucket has been suspended, per a sign on the door. This range used to be great. Now I'd say play at your own risk. All of the ball machines are now cash only, so the Essex golf card that you loaded with money? Doesn't work. I watched a family return their miniature golf balls and clubs. The staff didn't even pretend to clean it before they put it back on the rack. And the ball cleaner is broken. NORTH JERSEY GOLFERS BEWARE!! This driving range is substandard and may be hazardous to your golf clubs and your health. The balls are filthy, rock hard, and of very low quality. I cracked the face of my new SIM 2 driver and now have permanent ball stains on several of my irons. The $15 jumbo bucket is advertised as having 150 balls but the real count (and I've counted several times) is about 120-122 balls. Many of the mats are lumpy and/or not level, and others are so worn and threadbare they might as well be burlap on concrete. Some regulars bring their own mats to prevent injury to their hands and joints. There are far better driving ranges in the area, so avoid this facility unless you're looking for some kind of "Tin Cup" experience. read more

I really love coming to this range, as someone who takes their golf seriously, it's the best place to practice, really. The mats and balls are in great shape, something that cannot be said at many of the ranges in my area, where they try to get too many miles out of them. The layout of the range is excellent, and being outdoors, you don't have to worry about impediments that preclude hitting flop shots, for instance. The staff is friendly and helpful and the owner is a great guy! I tell everyone I know about this place and how great it is. My only regret is that it's 25 miles away from my home, so getting there is a bit of a hike for me, but well worth the weekly trip! I cannot believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. This is my go-to place for hitting the golfing range. 45 balls are 6 bucks, 90 balls are 10 bucks, etc. There's a pro on site that I hear is good, but I have not utilized him. When I used to work around the area, I came down here after work a couple times to hit a bucket. The building is down a heavily treed road. In fact, the range seems like it's in the middle of a forest. Really nice location. If the trees were pine, the place would remind me of home. The facility uses mats and the range goes to out to about 300 yards or so. You can see it driving off 280 around exit 3. It gets crowded fast, but I've never been not been able to find a spot. This place has come a long way The grounds are well maintained. There are ample stalls both outdoors and undercover for driving balls. They have a pretty good zone for practicing chip shorts. Nice practice green The mini golf seems to have been updated and improved. The pro shop is clean and vibrant. M-F they have very inexpensive specials. You just can't beat $1 mini golf. Tucked away off of Eagle Rock Ave, this place is offering more for less than the always packed Essex County zone that is McLoone's and Safari golf. Not to mention parking is WAY easier. read more

I really like the aesthetics of this place. It's easy to follow your ball on the green to see how far you hit the ball and the grounds are well maintained. I actually didn't feel like I was in the middle of Essex County, because the range is in a nice treed area away from the hustle and bustle of Northern New Jersey cities. The tees didn't feel crowded and there was a nice little mini golf area (though we didn't use it). Moved back to NJ from the golf capital of the world, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Must say I wasted a lot of money buying the wrong golf equip in Cluhouse Golf Shops and in Big Box Stores. Finally a solution to eliminate ignorant unqualified "Customer No-Service" unfriendly incompetent pretend to have knowledge clerks. Essex Golf literally has "Professional Golf Pro" personnel who do state of the art swing analysis and spend time to custom fit your new clubs, and create total equipment solutions. I didnt even know how or where to get the type of grip now on my putter. I am REALLY impressed with this place. Even have ridiculous deals on Foot Joy and was open year round with the snow. They made the long awaited preferred choice Ping S56 affordable is I own em'. And oh yeah.. they have a well kept driving range, putting course, and if you can believe it; clean white Callaway range balls. 11 on a scale of 10. I stopped for a small bucket to warm up for my upcoming first NJ round this year. I practiced odd clubs this week up to my driver and was still pulling the ball (I always sliced before). I changed to a midsize grip last fall for painful thumb reasons and asked Jeff inside (shop person/owner) for advice. He took me back out with my driver and a couple dozen balls and watched me hit a few. He made two swing corrections and brought my "golf memory " back and soon I was hitting high and straight for the first time in 2 years. Thank you Jeff!! read more

Mats are in good shape and the distance markers are pretty accurate. Received a helpful lesson from Sam Kang recently and have received good instruction from other pros there previously. Only criticism is that as of this review, the balls are looking a little worn out. read more

This is a great place to hit balls but I got screwed by one of the golf instructors who works out of there. I purchased a "Groupon" for an hour lesson with Kieran McCarthy of KPM Golf Academy. I made an appointment with the instructor and confirmed it both by e-mail and telephone. The appointment was for 6:00 PM. I left work early to be there and arrived 15 minutes early. I saw the instructor who was with another student and asked him where to wait for him. He told me where to wait. Six o'clock came and went. I waited and waited. At 6:25 I saw he was still with another student and I left. He could have called me earlier to tell me he was running late, but did not. When I saw him, he could have told me he was running late, but he did not. After I left, he could have called me to apologize, but he did not.
