A group of friends and I rented two RV spaces at Grizzly Ridge for two nights. This was a great…read morelocation with plenty of options for hiking, kayaking, rafting, and sightseeing nearby. Additionally there were actually several restaurants and convenience stores in the area which was a change from the remote RV parks we had stayed at previously. The staff inside the store were EXTREMELY friendly. I have seen some negative posts about religion which I do not understand. Not once did I encounter anyone trying to push religion down my throat, nor did I notice an inappropriate amount of bibles laying around. Also, who cares? You don't have to read the bible in the bathroom just because it's there. I would highly recommend staying at Grizzly Ridge! Also there is a beautiful brand new metal deck area with steps leading down to it right on the river. I'm attaching pictures. Must see! Plus: water, sewage, and electric hook ups!

The 5-stars is mainly for being open year-round. Seward is a ghost town in the winter. It feels like 80% of business are closed, making it challenging and frustrating for Alaska residents to visit in the off-season. The main/only negative is that the prices are high, really high. Also, the anti-science rhetoric around GMO foods is a huge turnoff. We need more science in our food supply chain, not less. Fear mongering and food shaming (see also: "clean eating") by people of great privilege is not helpful to improving the outcomes of those that are less fortunate. GMO fresh veggies are about 1000X as healthy as non-GMO, organic, GF cookies. Not everyone can afford massively expensive organic/non-GMO/GF/etc products. And eating those is not necessary for good health for the vast majority of people.

Whittier was named the strangest town in Alaska. And there's also the old saying, "It's always…read moreshittier in Whittier." That's mostly a reference to the weather, but really most of the town looks pretty dumpy. The kindly description for the Harbor Store is that it's a well-worn small general store. And given the location it's probably not reasonable to expect much better. Given the Alaska state law forbidding alcohol sales in grocery stores, it's probably the only place in town to buy package liquor. The selection is sparse. The end of the building that sells the booze is actually a separate business. You can't go into it, but you can point to stuff you want and buy it that way. The rest of the place is the predictably unpredictable collection of seemingly random foods and tools and this and that. The store in the Anchor Inn has more of everything... except knives and booze
