I've brought several dresses here the pricing is so random. I brought my wedding dress, a brides maid and a dress for a gala. The alterations range from simple to nearly making a new dress and the cost pretty much the the same. The work was good and professional. My problem with last item is that is smells terrible like a carry out restaurant and I have no time to get it dry cleaned. I mean it smells bad. I'm so disappointed. My first few experiences were satisfactory. Then they had my shirt looking like a Gartel Gordon Original. I upset about it and realized they will rush you unless you say, hold up. Nope. Mom and pop shop by the definition. Mrs. Esther is not new at doing this at all. She's a very sweet woman and very skilled! She let one of my dresses out and it fits so much better. I do think it was a little pricey. It was $20-30 for each garment alteration even though it was a simple fix especially for taking in an item. I requested a refund and they have 20% non refundable fee which is understandable because she does take her time to fit each garment to you but still :-/. The customer service however was on point. I've been going to Esther's for alterations for years. I think she's extremely fair, cordial & efficient. I've read some comments in here complaining that she doesn't post prices. I get the impression those people don't understand how alterations are done. A seamstress doesn't know what the clothes are going to need when you walk in the door. They tailor it to your body. If you ask her what a hem is, or some specific service, it's going to be hard for her to answer that without seeing the material. Maybe it's a multi-layered skirt with several different types of fabrics. That hem is going to cost more than a single material skirt. And of course if that skirt needs a waistline adjustment, that could be more. If she quoted the hem without seeing it on and then you weren't happy with the final product because it still flared at the waist, she wouldn't be a good seamstress, would she? She asks you to try on your clothes in the shoes you'll wear on game day. And, unless you gain five pounds over the weekend, it's going to fit very nicely when you pick it up from her. And, if it doesn't, she'll fix it. If the original garment can't be altered to flatter you, she'll be honest rather than just go for the sale. That has been my experience. Alterations aren't cheap. And, it can be hard to find a seamstress that gets it right on the first try, or corrects mistakes for free, charges fairly, & returns garments in a timely manner. It's true she isn't in a fancy neighborhood, but does that really matter? I'd rather she invest in good equipment, materials, and quality effort over a fancy zip code. I was excited to find out they are open and are making customized reusable fabric face masks. Esther and her family are hard at work mass producing face masks. These are wonderful alternatives to the N95 masks sold out everywhere. There are many different patterns of fabric and designs. The masks have a nose wire for a more tighter fit and a filter insert. Come and check it out and get yours customized. They are beautifully made and easily machine washable. You can usually get them the next day instead of waiting a week or so buying them online. read more

It's about time I review Esther's, who I've trusted with countless projects, including shortening my wedding skirt into a wearable tulle skirt for special occasions. I've also gotten several vintage pieces altered that used to be my mom's, pants, zippers exchanged, you name it. Pieces of clothing I may have given away because I wouldn't know how salvage she's totally saved for me. Pros: - prices are fair. I've gotten a lot of alterations over the years, and never expect them to cheap, and Esther's prices are NOT "cheap". But why would you really expect them to be. She puts a lot of work into it, and it's definitely cheaper than just getting something new (especially when taking into account ALL costs, not just personal). Still, Esther's prices are not so astronomical that I wouldn't be able to keep on coming back. - alterations get done at a fast clip. - good eye for what needs to be done and how things will look on someone's body (which is key). For example - when I was wanting to alter my wedding skirt, I first recommended a shorter length, she showed me what her recommended (and longer) length would look like first by doing a rough cut. I'm really glad I went with her suggestion, it's beautiful! - friendly, but to the point. My previous seamstress did a lot of small talk. Maybe some people like that. I really like that when I go in to Esther's, she'll greet me and we'll get down to business quickly. read more

I recently visited Esther's Alteration and had an incredibly disappointing experience. I brought in a custom dress that I needed altered, but instead of the professional service I expected, I was met with rudeness and unprofessional behavior. The tailor removed the zipper from my dress in an attempt to create space in the gown. After realizing she could not fix it that way, she refused to re-apply my zipper. She flat-out refused to re-attach it. She never made me aware that she was removing it. To make matters worse, she threw my dress across the counter in frustration which was not only uncalled for but also extremely disrespectful. I simply continued to explain to her that I needed her to return my dress to me in the condition I gave it to her since I would still have to take the dress to another tailor to alter. This is not how customers should be treated. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for reliable and respectful tailoring. The male employee did not attempt to mediate the situation either. Rather he began yelling at me that they were closing soon and I should get out. read more

The most unprofessional service I have ever seen. I had taken 3 pair of brand new work slacks for alteration, and to be hemmed. However I stipulated to her a numerous of times after she took my measurements to leave some space. they were taken and too small and too tight. I was telling her the issue she refused to take it out and became very argumentative rude, disrespectful calling me a liar. And had paid a $100.00 dollar for the services. Terrific folks, amazing quality of work, and reasonable prices. I am sorry it costs more to fix the cruddy rayon WalMart jacket than the fifty bucks you paid for it, but that is not a tailor's fault. Buy better-quality clothing, KC! What the heck does "wanted to charge us 20% when she didn't do anything but ask us what we needed" mean? Twenty percent of what? In my business I tell folks to come in for a quote all the time. If they decline, I give them a range from two bucks to two thousand bucks as that actually covers all options (and, yes, there is a two dollar option; it may not work but it is one possibility). I had a great experience here, having two dresses altered where the waist and shoulders were too large. One was a polyester chiffon, and the other was satin with a lace overlay, so I was worried about the delicate fabrics, but she did a great job the first time (no need to go back for adjustments)! Esther was friendly and knew exactly what to do to alter the dresses to a perfect fit. I finally found a place near me that doesn't hem my jeans too short!!! Woohoo!!! This shop is owned and run by sweetest Korean couple, one of whom is Esther. They do fast and professional alterations at a reasonable price. I used them to size down a women's pant suit for me - and they did a beautiful job, even fixing parts I didn't realize needed to be fixed (shortening the sleeves for a more professional look). They also fixed a dress for me, hemmed some pants, took in a few pairs of pants, and patched some jeans. I will definitely be going back to them in the future. read more

They are awesome, skillful, and innovative! I bought 2 dresses from LightInTheBox that were supposed to be true to size and were not. They refused to exchange or refund and I was left with 2 beautiful dresses that were too small for me with an event a week away. Esther's saved my life! She was able to let out my dresses and keep their integrity and design. She was also super fast and extremely reasonably priced. Dresses went inon Wednesday and ready by Friday evening, pressed and all. I am above grateful for her hard work. I will definitely recommend her to everyone and will use her for every alteration. Attempted calling numerous times, so since it wasn't too far away, I took a chance to drive over to get information. The location is ni horrible, nor is it upscale. The shop looked clean so I attempted to ask about rates, and turn around time. Well my rates question was never addressed, but she invited me to bring in my clothing. I had (6) pieces two of which were large in the waist, one dress that simply need intake seam straight down. The blazers were probably more time consuming. Anyway she proceeded to pin and chalk areas where alterations were to be made. Afterwards, she advised in horrible English, $220. I'm like totally shocked. I didn't pay that much for all of the pieces together. She said "Well go somewhere else!" She advised the man, I'm assuming was her husband to remove all pins. I was totally perturbed but I waited quietly in disbelief. We wasted over an hour when this could have been alleviated if she would have simply answered a very simple question. What are your rates? Very petty and unprofessional, but lesson learned: Go to reputable tailors who have prices listed and the owner is a Service Professional; that includes more than your skill set but how one treats customers.... read more

This morning I called to ask about whether an alteration was possible and what a rough cost estimate might be (as one can not expect an exact quote over the phone- which I stated- and because I have never previously had my clothing altered, so I have no baseline expectation). The man on the phone said that the alteration was possible, but regarding the cost he said, "I don't know, bring in here." I again clarified that I wasn't looking for an exact quote but, "A broad range- is this generally a $10-$50 type of alteration, or perhaps a $100-$200 type of alteration?" I came in from Texas with an extremely rushed order- the bridesmaids' dress that I had ordered from out-of-state was too long and the shop I'd purchased it from was charging $70 just to trim & hem it, without a guarantee of it being prepared on time. I called ahead and the owner answered, immediately agreeing to do the job. I came to this store expecting a high price for decent service, but was amazed to find that not only did the owner measure my needed alterations with efficiency, but she was also able to alter the three-layered dress in less than an hour for an appropriate price. Considering that she put aside everything to immediately work on my dress, worked with a positive attitude, and received numerous happy customers during my short visit, I can only give her a perfect 5 star.
