This spot worked a miracle on a suit I purchased online that was way too big. I brough it in and the guy that helped me was very kind. He took the time to explain what he'd have to do to get the suit to fit. When I went back for the suit in a few days he offered to do additional tailoring if I was unhappy with his work. I didn't think I would need to find an alteration shop because I can sew therefore I fix my own garments and that of my family's. But, this time I didn't have the patience and wasn't sure my sewing machine can install a new zipper to my liking. So I started looking for a shop. I am thankful I found A1 alterations, I called and someone actually answered promptly. They told me they can replace the zipper in a jacket that I almost got rid of. I couldn't find another one that fit this well so I decided to fix it. I took the jacket to A1 and was greeted by a nice gentleman who told me that I will be helped by another gentleman who was praying . I was happy to wait, not too long. They were both very pleasant and friendly. I left my jacket on Friday and I received a call Saturday to pick up the finished garment. The finished product was perfectly done, it was replaced with a more sturdy zipper that sparkled. So now I have a fancier jacket and you can't tell that the zipper was replaced. I was happy to pay the price. I can't remember the name of the gentleman who repaired it but I would like to Thank him again. Excellent work on my dress which had a bottom slip and 2 overlapping sheer pieces. It was 6:30 p.m. on Friday night and after trying on my 1st dress that I had bought for my daughter's wedding the next day, it was too long. I called this place & he said he would hem it up for me. I drove 30 minutes and it was worth it. I was in such a rush, I just told him 2 inches and he asked if I was sure or if I wanted to try the dress on. I tried it on and he showed me where it should be hemmed at. After an hour (mall is next door), my dress was ready. read more

I am very happy with some recent alterations Al did for me. I initially drove out here because of their late hours and fast turnaround time and I was not disappointed. The work is great and everything was done ahead of schedule. When I came to pick up my jackets, another guy was just coming out of a changing room wearing a very sharp brand new suit they had made for him. Geting there was a little confusing at first - it looks like the location marker on Google Maps is slightly misleading, which led me to walk around the shopping plaza in vain for a solid 20 minutes when I first arrived. Keep driving past the first business plaza. On your left will be another building with a big white "3321" sign, which is where Al's is located. Plenty of parking. A head's up that they are not exactly the most attentive to their phone - looks like a small staff - so if you don't connect, just try again after a minute or so. read more

This review is long overdue. I moved to the area about 3-years ago, and I was in need of a reliable tailor. After visiting several local tailors and having many mediocre experiences, my search came to an end when I walked into Al's Custom Tailoring. Over the last two years, I have gone to Al's to have a couple of my pants (slacks, jeans, and khakis) hemmed, and to have some shirts custom fitted. Unlike many other tailors, Al's does it in house (I've sat and watched him cut and sew one of my shirts, which only took 20-30 mins!) and they are exceptional at what they do. Al's pricings are great not just compared to other tailors, but for the quality of the tailoring. As mentioned before, they only accept cash. Besides the prices, Al and all of the other gentlemen who work there are great people! They are always smiling, watching soccer or discovery channel, and make me feel completely welcomed every time I walk in. I love going to Al's because I know my clothes are in good hands. I'm grateful to find such a gem, because everyone needs to have an excellent and skilled tailor, and for me, that person is Al! read more

This place tends to get mixed reviews and I can understand why, that said it's going to be my go to tailor from now on. It's a little hard to find (I wish other reviews actually gave clear directions), park in the mall behind JC Penny, then find building 3321. Look for the building number and go around the back and downstairs to the basement suites, you'll find the tailors behind door number 3. It's easy to get lost if you are looking at the front suite. Al is really friendly if you take the time to chat to him, was very welcoming to me and did my job straight away while I waited. I got two pants hemmed for $15 each and they were done in under 15 minutes. Worksmanship was great, he did them at the height I wanted (the last place I used didn't). It's cash only, but an ATM is in the mall. It's not the tidiest of shopfronts, by this is what most tailor shops actually look like out back. All in all a great local place that does a good job, isn't expensive and does it quick. I'll be coming back every time I need a job done. Thanks al. read more

This shop did major alterations on a nice dark grey pinstripe suit that I bought years ago. It's basically a brand new suit now. The tailor (Ba) did a fantastic job at a fair price. If you live in the Hyattsville area and are looking for a custom tailor I can definitely recommend this business. It is located in a somewhat rundown office park and the shop itself is not the most "well-kept" room you've ever seen... but don't let that fool you. Great work on alterations! I'm very particular about how my clothes are altered after having a brand new pair of $100 jeans ruined a few years ago at a different establishment. The customer service was pleasant and after me telling him my horror story and begging him to please do a good job, I must say that I wasn't dissappointed. Visited this location because it's close to home and open very late. It was VERY difficult to find and I wouldn't exactly call the interior luxurious... I was happy that they were able to do my alteration overnight, but it was quite expensive - - $80 to take in two standard button down work shirts.. Also, the final product was just OK. I will likely use them again if it's an absolute emergency but I don't see them becoming my day-to-day tailor. read more

This place doesn't deserve 1 star but let's get to the problems. I took my material and the style I wanted 3 months prior to the time I needed it. I left a hefty deposit and Al assured me that my outfit would be ready long before the day it was due. Needless to say not only was it not ready but the outfit was horrible. It was so poorly made that I cried immediately. My father ( May his soul Rest In Peace) stopped me from giving Al a piece of my mind. This place is great! The craftsmanship is good and they will even do alterations while you wait. It's reasonably priced too. These gentlemen specialize in Traditional African attire, but are quite capable of crafting or altering regular business attire as well. A cultural note: be sure to be clear about where you want your pants to fall because their vision and your vision of proper fit and length may be quite different. I like a medium break and their vision is probably more of a long break; so, I had to communicate that what they thought was fine and elegant, was just not for me. I went to Al's because I needed a dress taken in at the waist. I came in on a Thursday hoping to have it back by Monday. It was actually ready early so I went to pick it up Saturday morning. I needed a minor adjustment after trying it on and was able to get it back after a couple of hours. Also, while there, several other customers raved about the work that has been completed here. From prom dresses to custom suits, Al is great at what he does. I'm very happy with the results. The work was well done and it's close to home. No more driving into DC for alterations. My #1 go-to for alterations. I've had a full suit, 2 pairs of suit pants, 2 sport coats, 2 dress shirts, and most recently, my favorite wool overcoat altered by Al's in the past year, and I've been fully satisfied with the results every time. My suit was a thrift-store rescue that was far too big for me in all areas. They managed to make the suit look very stylish on me, despite the fact that it never could have fit me in a million years otherwise. The sport coats belonged to my late grandfather, who was a 42 L. I'm a 39 R, so there were significant alterations to make. I now look great in them, and it brings me pride and joy to keep my grandfather's memory alive in his personal bequests. Most recently, I had the suit pants, dress shirts, and wool overcoat custom tailored. I took measurements on Saturday and all of the work was FINISHED by Monday afternoon. Not only were they finished, but they are all PERFECT. I used to swim in these particular shirts, and now they make me feel totally GQ. I purchased a beautiful plaid peacoat by Raf Simons / Fred Perry, which has become an all-time favorite garment of mine. The sleeves were way too long for me, unfortunately, so I had been rolling them up and looking like someone's little brother for some time. I consulted a few other tailors before coming to Al's, and each of them balked at the amount of work that would be neccessary and offered astronomical estimates. Al's took care of me in both regards. Their services are affordable and they are incredibly capable professionals. These tailors are diamonds in the rough. You'd be hard-pressed to find their shop if you didn't know where to look. They are located just behind Prince George's Plaza mall, in the ground floor of a small office complex. If you walk from the mall concourse out of the rear JC Penney parking entrance, then you will be looking directly at the building. You can also turn right on Toledo Terrace and the building will be on your right. Please bring Al's your business. They will do a fantastic job. Also, they DO indeed accept credit cards. This was my first time visiting a tailor and I'm so glad I found a good one on my first try. I brought in an expensive dress I ordered offline that needed to be taken in significantly. Al finished the job in one day and when I came to try it on I wasn't sure if I he had actually taken it in or if I gained pounds in just a day lol Awesome job, the seams were done flawlessly. !!!WARNING!!!! BEWARE!!!! If I could give ZERO STARs I would. How is this a registered business in the United States of America??!? THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. I gave him my fabric ONE MONTH in advance. I show up one month later to try on the dress, 3 days before my event, and he was just then cutting the fabric for the FIRST time! The dress was not even made yet, there was literally NOTHING for me to try on. I return the next day, now 2 days before my event, and the dress is made but looks NOTHING like the picture i gave him. He explains that what i wanted was too complicated and impossible to make...after he explicitly told me one month ago that he could make it. After he proceeded to yell at me, with his finger in my face, cursing at me, I frantically left, scared for my life. I returned the next day with a male friend (for security) to recover my fabric.
