On vacation with my wife in Portsmouth and wanted to head out on the water. Had a great time in a nice boat in a great area to paddle in!

Great place. We rented kayaks for two hours. Easygoing and efficient. Kind and helpful. I would come here again.

We stored our bags with the kind folks manning the station -- they were all SO friendly and they even had a lil puppy chillin with them. Our guide was Harry and he was AMAZING!! He helped gear us up, put us through a mini safety/how to lesson, and took us out! As someone who's never kayaked on the ocean, I felt extremely ready with Harry at the helm! He was super knowledgeable of history, the boats, the wildlife, and the marina. He was so fun to yap with and patient with our shenanigans and jokes on the water hehehe. We saw many beautiful boats, including historical reenactment sailboats, sea birds, Osprey and their nests, and talked to some locals on the water. Harry said it was the windiest he's seen all summer when we were paddling back - be prepared to get a good workout in!! It was sunny out so no need for thick garments- even the water didn't feel icy cold like I expected. None of us tipped but even if we did, we would've been safe in this weather. For people's reference if you're wondering what to wear: Swimsuit, leggings (shorts would've been fine on a day like this), water wicking long sleeve top, hat, sunglasses, Tevas. They provide life vests, water shoes, and dry bags!!! THANK YOU HARRY FOR MAKING OUR TRIP SO SPECIAL

I am going to join the previous reviewers who said they had a fantastic experience…read more My husband and I took the intro to kayaking course with Kevin and there were 7 other people in our class. I was grateful because there were several other beginners like me. I'm fairly coordinated, but I've never done this before and didn't want to look like an idiot. Before we even got into the water, Kevin talked to us about the boat, sea conditions, and other important safety facts. His instruction was very informative and his funny, sarcastic side made it very enjoyable and entertaining. The water was pretty wavy and it was fairly windy out, but it was easy to paddle and it was super fun being in the water. Kevin taught us different techniques of kayaking and then at the end a "wet exit" which involved dumping yourself out of the boat and into the water. It was about a 3 hour adventure and well worth the money. My husband and I feel very confident to rent kayaks on our own or take a more advanced course, and we will definitely call Salem Kayak again. Awesome job!

You may have seen Kevin and Gillian's car around Salem with the awesome Rock, Paddle, Surf graphic…read more They took over Salem Kayak and gave it a new name and a totally new vibe. They are passionate about kayaking and have taught it and done it for many years. If you are a beginner at kayaking like I am or if you already know how and want to learn some new maneuvers, Kevin and Gillian can teach you. They also have sunset trips and full moon paddles, both of which I someday will have the courage to do. Go down to Salem Willows and talk to both or either of these people and make new friends in the process. Check out their website for upcoming events at www.rockpaddlesurf.com.

My poor rating has to do with the company more than the kayak itself. Lincoln does NOT stand…read morebehind its product. I picked up my Quoddy Lite last spring (my second; it was a replacement--quite expensive!--for the one I bought some 20 years ago. I picked it up rather than have it shipped to my home in NJ. First I went to the wrong address (allegedly because the Water St address is "cached" on the Internet), and had to go quite far out of my way to find the correct address. More importantly, when I got home and removed the shrink wrap I discovered a defect--a break in the gel coat on the top part of the kayak (a ZIG ZAG PATTERN, in BLACK, in an area approx 2"x2"). I was initially told that someone would come and pick it up at my home and bring it back to MA to be fixed and then returned to me. Another alternative was to find a reputable place in my area to do the repair, with Lincoln paying and sending the correct paint color. To my shock, when I finally did find a boat repair place to give me an estimate I received a quote of $1000+ for the repair--obviously ridiculous. BUT I have since been ghosted by Marc, my contact at Lincoln. He stopped responding to calls, texts, emails, and notes on the Lincoln website. I have not heard from him since July, despite repeat efforts at contact. We agreed to wait til after the kayak season was over to have it repaired. He recommended that I cover the breaks in the gel coat with nail polish that matched the orange color. I did that, but after spending thousands on a kayak this is obviously not a satisfactory long-term solution. My conclusion is that Lincoln is no longer the same company it once was when it was based in Freeport, ME. I would advise against spending thousands of dollars on a product for which there is no support from the company, despite its stated lifetime guarantee. This has left me with a terrible feeling about what should have and could have been a delightful experience!

One measly star. And that's too generous…read more I'm an ex-pat Mainer living in California exile. I look forward to my trips home & plan them in advance, because time is limited, money is limited. Doesn't everyone want their vacations to be great? I made the mistake of counting on this place to be part of my vacation. I found them on Groupon--extra good! I checked them out on-line. I found evidence that people in the kayak/canoe world gave them the "thumbs up." Sounds good, right? Their marketing info makes it clear that they have to have at least 4 people to honor their commitment to do a half-day guided tour. Their business is on the road between a highway exit & LL Bean. Interpretation: thousands of people drive within 50 yards of this place every day. My trip was in July. Interpretation: peak tourism season. The person booking my tour said it was a pretty good bet. We planned our vacation accordingly. The day before our tour, they called to say they only had 3 people signed up & could not honor our tour. We pleaded our case to the young man, who seemed unable to offer much by way of solution. We asked him to explain to his supervisor, who seemed to be the owner, what our situation was & to call us. No call did we receive. In short, don't count on these people. They aren't concerned about their customers & they don't appear to make much effort to fill their kayak tours. Maybe they are good at other parts of their business (equipment information & sales perhaps), but based on our experience, they don't care about the tours they offer. No customer service whatsoever in this regard.
