This is a spacious place with both a terraza (open air) and indoor dining. It looks like an old estate that was converted to a restaurant. The decor is minimalistic, and the lighting a little on the noncommittal end :) An interesting detail: the tables are bare and the tablecloth is only laid after you sit down.
There's a strong French theme here, as a few of the meats lean towards wine sauces, and there's even a Bordeaux top sirloin dish (picaña bordelesa).
I decided to try the chef's specialty, Mole Negro de Oaxaca, which is offered with a choice of turkey "guajalote" or shrimp. In the spirit of adventure, I went with turkey lol
The staff took a while to get going. The place wasn't busy, but it just seemed that they didn't know I wanted to eat? Lol Anyway, once started, it went along smoothly.
The Mole was absolutely amazing! Just chocolatey and spicy enough to remind you that you're in Mexico, a perfect combo with the blue corn tortilla!!! This tortilla, by the way, is not the US-grocery-store-branded kind, but a textured, fluffy, chewy, freshly made and warm side! It demands your full attention from the first bite!
I was so impressed that I had to ask. Apparently, they made both in the premises. The tortilla is made daily, and the mole only twice a year! After it's made with nuts, chocolate, spices, etc, they degústate it, and Store it as a powder that is then cooked to order.
To finish off the night, I went with the maître d's recommendation, and tried the merengue helado with berries sauce, and profiteroles.
The ice cream cake has a meringue base! The berries sauce is thick and rich. It should be too sweet, but somehow it isn't. It's just perfect! It can't be described as anything but a sweet lover's dream!
The profiterole was a-ok, but not amazing like the rest of the meal. Although it's worth mentioning that it has a dulce de leche core.
And finally, the night was closed with a cup of rich, full-bodied coffee.
Sure, the service could use some improvement, and the decor could be modernized. But the food, the piece de resistance, is undoubtedly amazing and makes up for a great experience! read more
