First time trying the Spa at the Avalon hotel. My daughters and I were warmly greeted by the person at the front desk of this beautifully decorated boutique hotel. Someone took us to the Spa. The grounds are small but adorable. I was warmly greeted by Tiffany at the spa who confirmed our appointment, was so pleasant and kind. We each got the same order Estrella custom massage! With an added foot scrub! Each was different even though they were supposedly the same order. Me and one daughter had hot rocks and one daughter didn't. Two of us were stretched one was not. My scrub was hot the other two were not. Which is ok. We each enjoyed our treatment and would return. read more

I had a massage with Nubia and she was AMAZING. She found the knots in my back I didn't know I had and really focused on getting them out. I've never had a masseuse fully get a knot out of my neck like she did. She also was so kind and taught me how to continue to help my shoulder pain in the future. The Estrella spa and pool was beautiful and serene. I booked this for my sister bachelorette and they were accommodating for the group and provided extras like champagne and fruit for us! Just left my first prenatal massage and facial with Nubia --it was great! I always thought/feared a prenatal massage wouldn't have enough going on to feel worth it but Nubia was knowledgeable and gave pretty serious amount of pressure and technique in all the right spots (and not anywhere that would be uncomfortable). She also consistently checked in to make sure that the pressure etc was what I was looking for. I also really enjoyed the facial and thought she did a great job, though definitely more spa facial than anything (aka focus on misc creams / masks and massage, not extractions, devices or acids (maybe bc pregnant but I think not)). Anyway, would definitely come back to Nubia again for a massage and recommend her to any prenatal ladies in particular! read more

In the past, I've had some issues with therapists applying too much pressure and not being able to adjust, where the massage becomes too painful, but Nubia was perfect. She executed exactly what I asked for and more, showing that she could calibrate and cater her expertise to any customers needs. I came here with my sister - I had a 90-min body scrub and massage treatment, she a 90-min massage. I had requested female therapists for both of us. Upon arrival the site was calming and the grounds pristine. The spa was a little hard to find with its maze of pathways but once we got in we were greeted warmly by reception. We filled out the paperwork, changed into robes and waited for our therapists to get us. Then came the bit that cost Estrella the full 5-star review. I got a female therapist, my sister did not. She tried to get someone else for the massage, but there was no one available. The receptionist even checked the email history of my booking and it clearly said 2 females requested. So they had to reschedule her appointment in 2 days time. I sure hope she gets a significant discount for the mixup and the inconvenience of having to go back. As for my treatment, it deserves a full 5 star rating. My therapist, Nuvia, was so great. If you are a modest person, the scrub is NOT for you. She scrubbed everywhere, and she wasn't shy about it! The best part was once it's time to rinse off the scrub, you just have to lie there! With other places I have had to get up and go shower off myself. Estrella has a shower system right there in the room above the bed. I felt like a 3 year old all over again with someone giving me a bath, and I just had to lie there and enjoy the warmth and flow of the water raining down on me. After the scrub, I was sent to another treatment room for the massage (too bad they don't have a huge blow dryer and conveyer belt for this part!). The massage was tranquil, relaxing, perfect. She checked with me a few times asking about the pressure. I would highly recommend Nuvia if you're looking for a deep pressure massage. She was excellent. The spa prices are hefty, but Estrella spa delivers on service, surroundings, and quality. Competence of the booking is lacking however. Hopefully management does the right thing and offers compensation. read more

I had facial treatment at Estrella Spa. It was a mediocre experience. The steamers weren't working in any of the facial rooms, very disappointing. The esthetician did not do a facial analysis my skin and did not do extractions until I requested it. Anyone can rub creams and lotions into your face for two hundred dollars. This is a vintage hotel that has had existing buildings retrofitted for spa purposes. There is something that is almost undefinable about the vibe you get at a "nicer" boutique hotel in Palm Springs. You know and can tell that the building is older but it has been well maintained or has been refurbished or remodeled to exude a ambiance of exclusivity. This is such a place. The waiting area wasn't particularly relaxing when compared to many other hotels & spas I have been to. In fact it is a room completely open an visible to the receiving desk. The dressing room is on the smaller side and only had one shower which you cannot hang a towel or robe inside. Thus making for an awkward encounter with friends and strangers alike, lol. The walk to the treatment rooms is also a bit unsettling. You get undressed in the building that I previously described but you walk in robe and slippers to a separate building to get the massage. The thing that is a bit strange is you parade past the pool area to get there. On the one hand you can glance over with your look & feeling of "I'm having THIS and you aren't". But it's fleeting and I mostly felt like, I'm naked under this robe and there's people right... there. The treatment itself was decent but not exceptional for the price point. I would say my daughter and I enjoyed the pool after as much as the spa. We ate lunch and had a few drinks poolside. I will say the waiter was super slow, and I mean didn't initially greet us for about a half hour and then didn't bring back with the menu for another 40 minutes. I finally went to the bar myself where the bartender (lady in White shirt in my photos with the Chi Chi coconut drink) was awesome! Valet guys were also personable. Overall I like the vibe and clientele of the hotel but the spa itself and the masseuse was not exceptional. read more

She got out all my terrible knots and I just melted into the table. My girlfriends had Jesus and Claudio for their massages and they couldn't stop raving about them either. I had an anti-aging facial with Nubia! She was so good and caring. Of course, we Latinxs stick together! We started off in English and once the Spanish came out we were 100000% more comfortable building great rapport. Her technique was amazing from start to finish and constantly checking in! Service at Estrella is great! Front desk and masseuses were all wonderful. I rarely leave negative reviews but I chose this spa based on the great reviews on Yelp and having been there, I would not return for a massage. The hotel is beautiful but the spa is disconnected with the reception and locker room in one building and the actual massage rooms in a separate building. You have to walk past the small pool area where people are partying to go to your massage; it's just not very relaxing and not a great setup. The room where the massages take place is VERY bright and the music they play is quite low so you can mostly hear the people at the pool, again, not relaxing. My husband and I got a couples massage, with my massage being prenatal. They gave me one extra pillow to hug and only draped a single, thin sheet over my body while my husband got a nice thick blanket. I am used to getting a heavy blanket during a massage to warm and relax the parts of your body that aren't being worked on, instead I was cold. They specifically advertise prenatal massage here, but clearly they're just not set up for it. This was my first prenatal massage so I figured that maybe they're just not that great. I tried another prenatal massage when we returned home and WOW it was AMAZING. They gave me 5 or 6 pillows all around my body to help with alignment and keep me comfortable on my side. Prenatal massages can be great, they're just not really set up for it at Estrella. I've never walked out of a massage feeling disappointed and I've had massages at resort hotels, massage envy and others in between so I'm no massage snob! Unfortunately, I did leave Estrella somewhat disappointed. Again, this is not a reflection of the staff but the facility and the fact that they should either step up their prenatal massage game or stop offering it altogether. It is quite expensive to get a massage here, so I was expecting the best. The experience you get for the price you pay is just not worth it. The spa itself is very cute and welcoming. The robes they give you to wear are super cozy and the facility is very clean. They also have products you can purchase to take with you. I couldn't resist a cute pair of slides. The staff was wonderful. If I could give Jesus 10/10 stars I would! He gave me the best massage I have ever had! I couldn't have made a better decision to treat my boyfriend for a day at the spa! Everyone was super friendly and so accomodating, G at the front desk was amazing he greeted us immediately and gave us some Champ before our couples massage. From the front desk to the locker rooms to the treatment room it really superceded my expections. The treatment room was so relaxing and everything smelled amazing and aromatic. After massages we got poolside sugar scrubs and paraffin. Food was deelish and our server was super nice and went out of her to make us comfy. Charged $234 for service not received because their receptionist would not take "no, she doesn't want a massage" for an answer. I visited this spa the day before my daughter's wedding. Her sister wanted a mani/pedi, which apparently Estrella doesn't provide. (Odd to have a spa without nail techs but heads up if you're coming, its not a full service spa.) Instead of accepting the no, they charged me for a service she rejected several days in advance. Was the plan to pin her to a table with a massage so she forgets they don't offer manicures or??? I offered to buy something else, they said no, just determined to take cash. It was a special day, so I didn't want to ruin it but now that I'm home, I want to leave my experience so they don't railroad anyone else into overcharges. It's too bad the front of the house is so poorly run, since my massage by Ana Maria was great. The girls received nice manicures in town. We'll leave them positive feedback. read more

Two friends and I were going in for a spa day as a belated birthday celebration and we were treated extremely well. Claudio, Jesus and Nubia gave us all fantastic treatments. I just had the most incredible, blissful day at Estrella Spa and felt the need to share this experience in hopes that everyone gets to experience the magic that is Estrella!! My boyfriend and I were greeted so lovely at the front desk, the receptionist as well as the Spa Director Gerardo were there to and they couldn't have been sweeter! We then went to the gorgeous locker rooms to get changed and off we went to some of the most incredible massages of our life!!! Ana Maria and Jesus gave us the most wonderful massages we've had in years!!! Ana Maria has this most wonderful touch that it just feels like she knows exactly what you want!! Jesus was also absolutely incredible and his hands were so strong and he was so accommodating to my requests. After those blissful massages, we relaxed by the jacuzzi right inside Estrella's little secluded area that has the most breathtaking view of the mountains and ordered food by the pool & enjoyed the rest of our day!
