I would have given zero starts but that wasn't an option. I have never been treated so poorly by a business in my life. At the initial visit I came by with my prescription looking for a nice frame. After looking through the selections I found a nice pair and gave the lady my information to look up my insurance. After several attempts she advised "You must have been mistaken, you don't have VSP I can't find your insurance under this SSN". I assured her that I do and have had VSP for many years. At that point I called VSP myself and was given a company code and that worked like a charm. Her attitude changed from dry and dismissive to happy and excited. Wow...so because YOU assumed I had no vision coverage I could only get great customer service AFTER it was confirmed. Whatever. Moving on, I purchased the frames and was left a voicemail on a Friday explaining that they closed at noon on Saturday and my frames were ready for pick up. Yay! That sounds a plan, I'll be nice and cute for the new year! I pull up at 11:30am with both my kids in tow. The door is locked. I look inside and see two workers a man and a woman. They are assisting a family of at least three. I knock on the door. Everyone looks up, but doesn't move. Oooook.... I knock again and the clients look up but neither worker. Uh...is this a joke? I knock again, a little harder and the guy who works there looks up laughs and continues to work. Neither employee came to the door. No one even acknowledged my presence. It was as if I was a solicitor or a panhandler asking for change. You know maybe they decided to close thirty minutes earlier. That is understandable but to completely IGNORE a customer is completely rude and disrespectful and I will NEVER patronize this business again. I feel discriminated against and I will be filing a complaint ASAP. Update: The man who worked there, called to apologize to me (after receiving word of my complaint). He stated he did not open the door for me and my children because "They have been robbed a few times" As if that was supposed to make me feel any better. He being an African American man stereotyped my family and I. I was insulted, and I still am to this day. I will never EVER go there again and I suggest no one else does either. read more

Ordered some sun glasses. I was told two weeks for pick up. After two and a half weeks I called, i was given an excuse and told it would take one more week. I'm pretty certain they forgot to put in my order. A week passed and I had to call yet again, this time some defect was found by the manufacturer and they had to redo them. They yet again gave me another window for pick up but again it came and went. Finally, I got a call a day after they told me the glasses would be there, too late of course for pick up. What angers me is their lack of follow up. I had to constantly call them to know wth was going on, they were aware of the issues but didn't have the time to contact me? Will no longer do business with a company with poor customer service. read more

Notwithstanding Laurie G's 5/29/09 review, I gotta give this place a thumb's up. I'll try to make this brief: I broke a temple on my prescription sunglasses (RayBans) and tried 3-4 other places to get them fixed. No luck. (See my negative review of Sunshades, if I write it.) These folks (Emile?) found me a replacement set by calling Italy or some place; and I got them within a week over the Xmas / New Year's holiday, no less. And only $40 to boot. read more

Their frames are ugly and really expensive. Which they are glad to admit as well saying that they have really high end products. They do not provide you with good customer service unless they are certain you are buying something. I could not have been happier with the service we received at Estudillo Optometry. The front desk staff are all super friendly and the people who helped my daughter with her new pair of glasses were more concerned about her happiness rather than trying to sell up a pricey pair. Unfortunately, my daughter's glasses broke the first week during P.E. I returned to Estudillo Optometry to purchase another pair of frames, and they replaced them right then and there for free. I was so shocked and surprised by how kind they were helping us. Bottom line is my daughter is loving her less expensive light weight glasses more than her designer pair we had previously. Had been referred by two different friends, so unfortunately tried this place. 1) Took my Oakleys' to Estudillo for prescription, because they are a 'dealer'. After two weeks of no word, was informed clerk 'sent frames to totally wrong place'. Had to get them back and resend to proper lens maker & installer. Asked to speak with owner/doctor, would promised to call at specific time, and then ignored me. Manager attempted to correct situation and made small price adjustment for my wait. 2) Returned twice for temple adjustment, each time young girl appeared to play with side hinge, using pliers, not exuding much confidence. Two days after second adjustment, moments after I put glasses on to drive, I heard 'snap' and the ear piece fell off. Again, manager was apologetic, asked 'who did adjustment', and when I told him, he rolled his eyes! Once again the owner/optometrist would not speak directly to me. Manager's best offer was if I could find other frames in his store, they would give me a 20% discount. I did not take them up on this poor excuse for their employees damage, especially considering all they seem to carry now is plastic and cheap material. Finally he referred me to an eyeglass repair place in Hayward, who said the technician broke the spring while attempting to adjust the fit. I am in the process of paying a second cost of $500-600 elsewhere, because of the ineptness of certain employees of Estudillo Plaza Optometry. read more

Dr. Harano is a good doctor, but after being a patient there for 10 years, I have switched to another optomotrist; apparently money, not her patients, are the #1 priority... I recently had a 1:45 appointment on a weekday, so I had taken off work. Anderson informed me that there had been a problem processing my insurance, that I needed to hold on while he sorted it out. They never did, and I was therefore told I would not get my exam that afternoon. I was seething, as I had taken the PM off work, AND spent an hour there cooling my heels. After being on the phone for a mere 10 minutes with my employer's Benefits department, I learned that the VSP representative had indeed screwed up my authorization paperwork, but that it was now all straightened out. I hold Anderson only partially accountable for this mess - with a little persistence, he could have unearthed the mistake. But Dr. Harano, you turned away a patient of 10 years b/c of an insurance glitch? Sorry, 100% unacceptable. read more

I was in today as a new patient for Dr. Harano. The staff and doctor were both moderately nice. The doctor rambled and over-shared personal details, which seems to be a theme in this office. It was discovered that I do in fact need glasses, and surprise! insurance won't cover them. For the poor/uninsured they offer a "deal" $95 of one of their stylish (see: cheap) and plastic lenses. If you wish to upgrade to polycarbonate lens which come with UV and scratch protection, those are $125. I received my prescription and decided to shop around for glasses. In doing so, I was informed I needed by pupillary distance. In calling the shop to ask, as it wasn't on my prescription, I was told knowing such information would cost me $10. Standard eye exams always tell the pupillary distance. I have never been charged, nor have I heard of someone being charged for this information. Needless to say, I won't be going back to their office to buy their cheap glasses, or let myself be swindled by such an unprofessional place. Thank goodness my insurance paid for this "exam", otherwise I'd dispute it all together. 100% do not recommend. read more

I had my routine eye exam today. The customer service was excellent. They welcomed me with open arms as usual and my favorite member of the staff, Anderson Thomas, was his usual pleasant self. He was so helpful and attentive to my needs (I am a difficult patient to say the least). The five stars are mostly for him because if he were not there, I would not be. He takes time to help me pick the perfect frames because I am also very particular. Thank you again Anderson for making me feel comfortable and welcome. When my glasses arrive make sure you are the one to assist me with the fitting. I totally agree with a previous review that Anderson's attention to detail truly shines!! read more

I have been going to Estudillo Optometry now for 8-10 years now. What keeps me going back is their attention to detail an AMAZING customer service. While mistakes happen, they do everything possible to make the mistakes right. For example, I have a pair of plastic framed Oakley's that have been difficult to adjust and while adjusting them, the frames have either cracked or broke. Since this was happening while the frames were a new Oakley style Estudillo Optometry has always been able to replaced the frame, not do a "repair" they were replaced. I have acquired many different styles of Oakley frames and when I bring a pair in for whatever reason, the staff takes the time to verify with Oakley if replacement frames or parts are available before having my new Rx put in. They do this to not waste my time and/or money, including my insurance coverage in the event I should break the frames. Every staff member at Estudillo Optometry are friendly, courteous and knowledgeable of their product and ability, if they are unsure the team is always there to support each other and if one knows they cant do the task or adjustment they aren't embarrassed to say, let me get someone who can. Although, it also depends on the age of the frames and if parts are even available. I've been lucky that those frames have been available and have been replaced. I have ONLY purchased Oakley frames for the last 10 years, and Estudillo has the best selection and if they don't have the frame I want they simply find the style at the Oakley website confirm the style with me then simply pick up e phone call Oakley and they are ordered. I know for fact, that Estudillo has HIGH standards of customer service and demands from their vendors high quality product. While maintaining their high standards, they have high quality frames to meet any budget. Most of all, Estudillo Plaza Optometry is a high quality store, with trained staff and doctors to meet your needs if not they will certainly refer you to someone/somewhere that can. This review is for Dr. Haw and for people with keratoconus condition. I have been wearing RGP lens for the past 13 years and none of my 5 optometry doctors told me about the hybrid lenses until i visited Dr. Haw 2 months ago. He told me that I have a couple of contact lenses options. He then fitting me with a few lenses until I'm comfortable with the lens. I have been in and out of his office a few time now to get the best fit and vision. He will keep trying until he is satisfied and you're happy with the new lens. The hybrid lens is the most comfortable lens I have ever worn and it almost feels like I have no lenses in at all. With my old lenses, I would easy get very uncomfortable with high wind because of dust get into the eyes. I'm so happy with my new lenses thanks to Dr. Haw. His staff are very nice and helpful. read more

The only reason I'm not rating this office with 5 stars is that I haven't been seen yet. I made an initial appointment and had to reschedule it. I called the office and had the pleasure of speaking with Anderson. We were looking for a pair of glasses for my grandpa who had problem with his old pair of glasses. We scheduled an appointment with Dr. Haw, and he was a great, friendly guy. He was really patient and addressed all the questions my grandpa had. It turned out the reading prescription he had was way off. Then their wonderful staff Anderson and Yani came to help us replace the lens on his glasses for a fair price. They came back in the next week. Quick!! While doing so I found a really nice pair of Ray ban frames I really liked and booked an appointment with Dr. Harano. The two times I went there were great and smooth. There was no pressure buy glasses and the opticians there only offer you what you need. We need more honest places like this optometrist office. read more

There was a problem with my new prescription sunglasses (through no fault of E.P. Optometry), and consequently it appeared I might not have my glasses in time for a trip to Italy. It came down to the 11th hour and Yanni and staff went above and beyond to persuade the courier from the lab (in Watsonville!) to put that same amount of effort into delivering my sunglasses in time--two hours before my departure. (Talk about stress!) Yanni even stayed past her normal working hours to make sure I had what I needed, and I was able to have excellent vision while being a tourist abroad. The doctors here are very thorough and caring, and I've seen them all over several years. One found a tiny hole in my retina and referred me to an opthamologist while keeping me calm about the situation. As I've aged, the doctors also explained how my eyes have changed and what to expect. The assistants are gentle and friendly and patient, especially when going through my insurance coverage. And Anderson always helps me find the best frames despite my resistance to the latest trends and walks me through my options. Great practice, great people. read more

I went in for a routine eye exam as a new patient. I had called in advance and the person who answered the phone thoroughly impressed me with his handling of information. The last optometrist office only had what I call pretty bimbos who didn't know what they were doing so this was a pleasant surprise. So much so that I didn't think twice about the location, being on MacArthur.. wait actually I did. But I figured it should be safe right? Well I get to the office and find you have to be buzzed into the main area, which is good, but aside from safety, the staff was really nice. The optometrist was really caring and attended to my concerns pretty thoroughly as well. The staff helped me choose the glasses that best fit my face and they had quite a selection and weren't judgmental about me going wild about trying on frames. So thank you, I am excited to get my new glasses!! Oh and in terms of price, I can say the prices are fair. they don't have a section where the glasses are for certain covered by whatever your insurance may be. But I think they have alot of name brands which is why the prices may seem higher, but they aren't outragouesly overpriced and didn't try to persuade me to buy more than I should. Obviously they tell you your options but it's your responsibility to say "no" if you don't need it. read more
