Every year I need to get a refill on contacts prescription but in order to do that you need to have an updated eye prescription and that is valid. My usual doctor that I've always been going to since I was 5 years old recently retired. So I was in the hunt for a new optometrist doctor and I stumbled across this place and seen the reviews so I was confident on my pick. First thing I asked if they take "Care credit" which is a credit card for any medical services. Setting up my doctor appointment for my first visit was a breeze and the lady taking the call was so nice and polite and provided all the information I needed. Including where to find parking lot and how to get there! So I was a bit excited to see what this new doctor and her assistants were going to be like! Luckily for me they do accept "Care credit" which is exactly what I was looking for! The day of my appointment was a walk in the park! I was greeted right away, filled out my paperwork, and a few minutes later I was called the back to start my process for the appointment. I was seated in a room where the doctor will come and exam my eyes and then the next step would be my contacts process. Ugh being blind is no fun! A bunch of hoops to jump thru just to be able to see, yay me! The doctor had asked me if I could bring my history of vision just to see if I am getting worse or staying the same. She reviewed my history and with my new eye examination she said it was the same nothing has changed which good news for me. So we decided to try a different brand for contacts since she didn't have my high prescription in contacts. After a week of trying them out I did not like them at all and they would dry out my eyes too much so the doctor had me come back in and she was able to preorder my brand with my prescription. I believe I only spent 200 and something in total when I would usually pay over $400 with my old optometrist doctor... Man I'm glad I don't go her anymore! Definitely love this place only downside about this place they are not the best when it comes to letting you know your contracts have arrived. You would need to call them to see if your contracts have arrived but that's the only thing. read more

Very unprofessional and rude staff. They broke my eyeglasses during an adjustment and then lied about it, saying they were already broken. I was also misinformed about my contact lenses delivery, and when I followed up, they were disrespectful and hung up on me. Completely unacceptable experience--would not recommend. read more

Agree with other reviews that the front desk staff is rude and not helpful. The front desk didn't greet us and we stood there for 1-2 mins while they were looking everywhere but us. My daughter glasses needed a simple adjustment with shortening the length of her glasses and we were willing to wait to have it adjusted. Primary Eyecare came through for me today. I'm away in California for work. I was cleaning my glasses heading to a meeting and guess what? The lease popped out. My coworker immediately looked up an eye doctor near me. I drove over and walked in. I explained that I was from Hawaii and my situation. Anyone who knows me, I can't see without my glasses. Unfortunately, my experience at this office has been extremely frustrating. The manager Marcella was incredibly rude and unhelpful. Marcella in particular showed no professionalism and absolutely no accountability for her mistakes. She made me feel like my insurance was inadequate and that all issues were somehow my fault. I personally contacted my insurance company and even had them speak directly to the office, yet Marcella insisted I provide the full name of the representative I spoke to and honestly, for what? Instead of trying to help resolve the situation, it felt like she was just trying to deflect blame and make things harder than they needed to be. Patients should be treated with respect and understanding, not made to feel dismissed and blamed. I felt completely unsupported and won't be returning. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who values good service or basic human decency. read more

Ordered contacts through the office. Attempted to cancel the order after 2 months of not receiving the order. I was told there would be a restocking fee, even after explaining several times I never recieved the order therefore there should not be a restocking fee for an order that was not shipped or delivered. Took over 3 months, after multiple calls, to receive the wrong prescription. read more

I like Dr Dia a lot. He gets 5 stars. Staff range from 1-5 stars. I only work with dr Dia after negative experiences with other drs in the office Front office staff: most are great: kind, efficient. Process VSP properly. One is so dense it is really impossible to work with her. The office ( dr Osias) is high pressure to buy glasses with them and I felt like a hostage begging for a prescription. Dr Dia does not join this. He will give you your prescription directly without the gauntlet of searching for glasses He is also good with kids and adults, has a great bedside manner. Accurate prescriptions. He is worth the small hassles that the rest of the office sometimes presents As for frames, they have some. I've never found any I particularly like and when I've tried using the staff for help finding frames for anyone in the family they've not been very skilled at choosing the right shape for the face. We go elsewhere for that part Parking is good free and convenient Very close to freeway. Bathroom is single serve non gendered. read more

If you are trans or nonbinary or use another name aside from your legal name, Primary Eyecare will deadname you in all communications. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!! Primary Eyecare will not use your authentic name in communications with you. They will only use your legal name. There is no excuse for this. They don't care that it's discrimination to insist on using legal names. Their reasoning is that they "have to" use the name that is on your insurance paperwork. No other healthcare provider refuses to use authentic names. Once they have your money, Primary Eyecare does not care about you. This review is for Dr. Dea. He was my optometrist for the last two decades. Through those years, I transitioned from contacts to glasses to where I'm am now - ready for cataract surgery. Even though I'm no longer Dr. Dea's patient (I'm now Medicare/Kaiser) I still went to see him before making the cataract surgery decision. Dr. Dea has always been thorough and takes the time to answer questions and educate. I always felt like he had my health and best interests at heart - it was never about the money. I trust him implicitly and that's why his opinion mattered more to me than the anyone's, including the surgeon's. You won't go wrong choosing Dr. Dea. He's an excellent doctor and a great human. This was my first visit here. Previously, I was a long-term patient of Flores Optometry in San Leandro. I decided to no longer be a patient there after the following issue; I've recently retired and I no longer have vision care coverage. I felt in need of an eye prescription exam as it had been awhile. I called Flores Optometry to find out the cost of an eye exam ($188). As I'm on a medication that requires me to get a yearly eye health exam at UCSF, I only needed the prescription lens exam. To minimize my cost, I asked if I could just get the lens prescription exam (and that I would provide the record from UCSF for the rest). Long story short, no. Looking for other options, after reading their excellent reviews, I decided to call Primary Eyecare Optometrist. I had a completely different experience. It was no problem bringing in my records from UCSF and getting a $44 lens prescription exam. I really enjoyed Dr. Dea! He's great! He did a very thorough lens prescription exam. I also appreciated that there was no heavy pressure as far as purchasing eyeglasses there. They do, however, have an excellent selection of frames. The young women that showed me some frames was very friendly and helpful. Without my vision coverage, it's really expensive, so I'll probably look elsewhere for new frames or refill my current frames. I highly recommend this optometry practice and I look forward to my next exam. read more

So I should've looked at the reviews before scheduling an appointment. The staff is not trained and they are rude. They are unwilling to help patients! I've had my glasses for less than 3 months and a lens popped out while I was wearing them. Called to see if there was a warranty or any help since my insurance was maxed for the next two years and they couldn't care less! I explained it had barely been 3 months since picking up my glasses, they said from the moment you walk out the door everything is considered wear and tear on your end and they will not replace anything. The best the could do was 20% off of $289. FOR REPLACEMENT OF A LENS THAT WAS NOT SECURED PROPERLY!! Def not worth it! All they care about it money and they need a good training session is professionalism and patient care. Don't waste your time and money! Instead head over to Valley Vision just down the blvd about a block. It's a privately owned family run business. They are quick, professional and so nice! My mother in law has been seeing them for the past several years and they are fabulous!!! PRIMARY EYE CARE SUCKS!!! In regard to the reply below, I spoke with your office manager and she was smug, unhelpful, and rude. The staff here is not looking to help any patients just to make money. I started going to Primary Eye Care before they moved down the Blvd to their current location. I stopped going for awhile because I did not like it. Years later I give them another try. Yesterday I called PEC to see if I can do an annual exam and glasses since I lost 2 pairs recently. She said all good yadada then follows with, "oh I'm sorry actually your insurance covered every other year so your rx is good for 2 years." ok no problem. I told her I am actually more interested in the glasses anyways and I did not use my insurance to get glasses on my last visit 13 months ago. She said I can come in and use my insurance to get glasses. So I come in and then get told completely opposite information multiple times. They said that my insurance does not cover glasses there. I said I never would have came if that was the case that's why I called. She also said that my rx was expired and the Dr extended my rx for a month. I told the lady no, I was told yesterday it's good until next year. She went back and forth with me while handing me my rx that says exp. 2/2023. This office has seriously gone down over the past 2 decades. Everyone sucks except the DR themselves. The girls who run the front desk and phones and glasses have no idea what they are talking about. The frame selection sucks too. I get from the cheapy section because I loose them a lot but I still try on other options just in case. Nothing good. I ask the girl helping me 4 times today for the persons name that I talked to on the phone yesterday and she couldn't figure it out. This place changes their policies on you and is not up front about their policies either. I've been going here for almost 5 years. And it used to be great. I've had no issues in the past using my warranty for my glasses if something happens. I was always just given a new pair. Last time I used my warranty, they didn't even give me the right color frame but I didn't complain, it was just given to me. Now all of a sudden "we have a new warranty company, we tell all our customers to not use glue, you need to bring glasses back within 30 days if the prescription is wrong." None of this is told to you now. The place has gone through many employees and no one knows anything. The doc who used to be here retired last year and no longer is here and the place has gone downhill. Find another place who treats their customers right. Lack of professionalism eye care is what this place should be called. This place just lost me as a customer. read more

This place is great. Had an eye exam last year and was very impressed by their thoroughness and professionalism. Recently called and had a complicated situation with a contact lens order. Ariana was SO Kind and helpful and was able to remedy the situation for me. She needed to seek outside approval for my order. She did so, and called me back, as promised. I did not have to call to see the status of my order. As a very busy person, I really appreciated this! WORST BUSINESS PRACTICE EVER! Called me on day of my appointment (booked 3 weeks in advance) to tell me my dr was not feeling well and would be going home, understood things happen people get sick I let them know I was okay getting rescheduled. I was offered to be reschedule until the 24th!! Are you kidding me!!! An additional 2 weeks! Receive a call back from "office manager" basically saying they do not have back up plans for reschedules (from there part), terrible business practice no wonder they're ratings continue to go down !! The 'so-called-sales-manager' on the floor (name starts with D) should not be employed anywhere especially for something as important as service for prescriptive eyecare. He is the the sole reason I am not returning to this office despite being a long term patient of PEO; I will not tolerate the hostile, psycho treatment and retaliatory damage to goods I work hard to pay for. I herein warn anyone interested to becoming/remaining a patient to beware of out of the blue hostility and disrespect. When the transaction does not profit his margins, the Disturbed employee takes out his rage on unsuspecting customers. He ends up attempting to ruin your day by yelling and raging at you in front of other staff and patients. In the end he desperately attempts to hold his shaky ground and blames you for asking for facts (newfound sales policy which was initially denied as proof of return policy that was never disclosed to begin with); when he looks foolish he then again desperately pushes boundaries by retaliating and scratching your glasses on a repair visit!!! Totally appalling and completely uncalled for. I should have NEVER given this office another chance- despite the fact that I've been going here for ages. If it was not for the hard-working Dr's whose work supports the meager selection of a sales floor existence; the offices' upper management should be very discerning what kind of character they select to run the sales floor. Well guess what, you lost another patient now and to come. I don't support your office, despite my escalating concerns the first time I had this person be rude to me, you did not do enough so save me time, I am not calling you and waste my time to repeat myself, I'd rather use that time to research a better optometry office. And I will follow this review up with BBB that you allow this to go on and have this discrentalled employee mistreat and damage customer's goods. I had been overdue for an appointment after having terrible experience with another provider and then, you know, COVID. Dr. Licht was amazing and made me feel very comfortable during my visit. She was very informative of what she saw when looking at the health of my eyes and even asked if I needed a second prescription for glasses to use for when I'm looking at a screen for an extended amount of time. I appreciate that this was the first provider that I have been to that did not push super hard on getting glasses then and there. I get that it is part of the business, but I hate feeling like I've walked into a conversation with a car salesperson versus something that I use daily to just see the environment around me. This place just put me on hold again! I don't know why the receptionist at Primary Eye Care is so rude but in reading the other reviews I see that I'm not the only one with the same complaint. I'd love to give this place a five because Dr Dea is great but the reception is terrible. It's really only one person. She's extremely rude and when I complained to another receptionist she had the rude one call me to apologize but she blamed the phone connection is what hung up on me not her. (Fyi. She's hung up or put me on hold many times before and after my complaint.) I'm sure people are thinking why do I put up with this. My family of five goes to Dr Dea. He's smart, understanding and patient. He's so good with my kids that I put up with the constant rudeness of the receptionist. Isn't the main responsibility of a receptionist to be the "front" for the office and be nice and courteous to the patients? Office followed appropriate COVID safety measures and provided a N95 face mask for all patients upon entry to their office. Granted I have great vision insurance. The staff was great during my eye glass fitting and really listened to my preferences without promoting high-end options for the big sale. I just can't do a"fitting" without my girl Kaye. We all know how important it is to have an honest girlfriend along when we go shopping ESPECIALLY with sunglasses. Youdon't want to leave Primary E.C looking like something your not (Darth Vader, a 30 year older version of you...etc..) First off all their selection is Hollywood, Cool Surfer, Sexy mom.....Kaye and I have a blast (or at least I do). She not only sets up my new glasses to fit like a glove, she helps me with glasses I previous bought making them fitted and shiny again (always with a lecture or two). From the front desk to the doctors and finally to Choosing the right glasses Primary Eyecare takes care of you. And Kaye, during these rough times I think about you daily. I had a bad experience at primary Eyecare about seven years ago with the previous owner. The next time years later I was short on time and had something lodged in my eye. I flushed it numerous times. My mother had a doctors appointment over at Eden. I dropped my mother and sister off and called Primary eyecare. They checked with the doctor and said they could see me right away. I only honestly had about 40 minutes to spare for my mom while she was in at the doctors. The whole time for my visit was about eight minutes. In and out of there in a flash, they found a little black speck of foreign matter in my eye. God bless you, Danielle Licht. I called another place and they wanted $175. Your company charged me $44. You know I didn't want to go back after having a bad experience with the previous owners. Thank God my sister talked me into it. The optometrist could not have been nicer. The staff here are super friendly and professional! There is no such thing as wait time here. They are quick! They make you feel welcomed and not rushed and will take the time to first find the appropriate lens prescription and second finding the frames that best fit you and your wants. They are very straight forward forward with the pricing and will happily give quotes on different frames.
