I stopped in for a coffee, but what I got was an unsolicited and unprofessional dose of judgment from the staff, starting with who I assume was the manager. As I walked in, the manager glanced at me and said to a female employee, "There you go, your Halloween costume," gesturing to my Grateful Dead t-shirt. The employee laughed and half-heartedly told him to stop, which was the only decent interaction in the place. The rest of the staff wore this uniform look of smugness, the kind you get from a group of wannabe punks and hipsters who think their subculture is the only valid one. What this manager and his crew clearly don't understand is the history of the very "underground" scene they're trying so hard to be part of. That smug comment revealed a profound ignorance. To the manager: You know they were rebels, too, right? The Dead did it the DIY way long before the word alternative fell out your mouth, booking their own shows, creating their own sound systems, and running their own record label without a shred of corporate help. They helped create the very independent, anti-authority foundation that the punk scene, and by extension your entire aesthetic, was built upon. They weren't a Halloween costume; they were the original punks in spirit, building the underground scene you now occupy. I don't expect every barista to be a Deadhead. I do expect basic professionalism and for staff, especially management, not to mock customers based on their clothing. The local coffee shop (which has a second location only a few blocks away but more in the main downtown stretch) offers quite a variety of drinks, including bubble teas as well. I was pretty conventional in my order of a chai latte, which had a mild flavor, bit of cinnamon and other spices but nothing really popped. Many of their other options looked intriguing. They had a few pastries on display, and also appeared to be doing some kind of CSA or something as someone traded in some empty egg cartons for some eggs while I was there. The place is open until 5:30 and looked to be fairly busy right up until the end of their hours. They have a substantial indoor space, as well as a rear patio, cat included. read more

This was my first time here. It's a really cute coffee shop in a pretty cool area in Paducah. I saw lots of ppl riding their bikes over. The line was out the door so I had high expectations and they didn't disappoint. It's looks small when you walk in but immediate to you left there's sitting, there's also sitting in front of the store and the back ( which I learners later ). I had some work to do so I chose to sit inside until it got too cold and moved to a table outside in the front. The staff was nice. My sister in law was telling me about their zucchini muffin but they didn't have it that day, i settled for another pastry and a vanilla latte. Excellent place to get your day started! I had a long day yesterday and then had to drive 4 hours to get to Paducah. I was ambitious to think I could drive down to Tennessee today to visit my friends. I decided to come here for coffee based on reviews and an article I found on places to see here. I'm so glad I came. This place is nestled snuggly on 6th Street in a beautiful brick building amongst other homes. It's easy to drive right past it. That's okay. Park nearby and walk. Exceptionally friendly people here. They have non dairy milk too and oat milk as an option if you want that also. Etcetera Coffeehouse, like its name, is a rather unique and hip cafe. I was spending the day sightseeing in Paducah and decided to get my daily caffeine fix here. Spanish latte was good and reasonably priced. Baristas were friendly and helpful. One gave me a few suggestions amongst the local food scene, which I very much appreciated. I love the art pieces hanging on the walls and painted on the coffee tables. Everything about this cafe is picturesque. It is quite spacious inside with two separate rooms. Outdoor seatings are also available in the front as well as the back patio. I was hoping to get some reading done on a crisp Sunday morning, but it was already bustling with families and young kids horsing around. I'd suggest you come to enjoy the drinks and hang out. It's probably not the best venue for studying or anything that requires a high level of concentration and productivity. Before you leave, make sure to stop by the Labyrinth and garden outside to appreciate more artworks and feel the zen before returning to your busy life. read more

My cappuccino was great, and my husband's flavored latte was exactly what he wanted (sweet sweet sweet). The quiche the person in front of us ordered looked really good as well. First of all, LOVE. I just moved here temporarily for work and miss my local coffee shop back home so I tried to find something organic and local here. Through a coworker I heard about Etcetera and wanted to give it a try. I ordered my usual coffee order and loved the oatmilk they used. I've been coming to this coffee shop nestled in Paducah's Lower Town Arts District for about 5 years now. I always have a great experience here. I love bringing out of town friends in and watching their face light up when they take their first drink. It's definitely my favorite coffee shop in the area. The price is amazing without sacrificing flavor or quality. Some of my favorite drinks to grab are: the blended chai tea latte, an iced Thai tea, a coconut + almond bubble tea with strawberry jellies, a vanilla latte with almond milk, and the Irish cream latte. Very cute coffee shop connected with the Kirchhoff Bakery/Deli. The barista taking our order chuckled with us as we complimented their no cell phone in line policy. That must be incredibly frustrating when you have a whole queue of people waiting to get their caffeine fix and someone is checking their Twitter feed. *Sigh* The place is intricately decorated and definitely has a younger person vibe, which I would say is mostly those who find themselves between 20 and 40 years old. We are simple coffee drinkers, so black coffee it was! Decently priced, but served from a pump-carafe. This bumps down my rating down a star because this causes the coffee to sit for longer periods of time. I just don't want old coffee. I understand that their specialized coffee and tea beverages get made behind the counter, but I hate how the purist coffee drinkers get the shaft. read more

The service is always a bit iffy, sometimes it feels like they think they are better than everyone. Which for a long time kept me from going back. This place was jewel for satisfying our coffee habit, especially since we haven't had good coffee in over 1 1/2 months, good prices too. They have a sitting area inside, and two patios. When there's snow back home, the front patio is so refreshing and really quiet and warm. We will stop here next time we are in Paducah. read more

I moved back to Paducah, KY after 20 years and was pleasantly surprised to find this little gem of a coffee shop. Paducah has an active "arts district" (through some serious efforts of the city and local government) and I was pleased to see that it is still flourishing. Having lived in Atlanta for 20 years previously, I was accustomed to some measure of diversity and when I left Paducah in 1990, it was not what I would call a diverse town. Et Cetera is exactly the kind of place I like - lots of diversity in the customers, staff, and menu! It was refreshing to see tattooed, pierced folks sharing coffee and conversation with more conservative business looking types. The menu uses local goods when they can, and is committed to fair trade practices. The staff is well-trained, and very interesting. And the best thing is that it is locally owned! There is free wi-fi, and plenty of space if you want to socialize, or work quietly alone. The local arts community and local students contribute art to the walls, and work by a local sculptor has recently been erected out front. I generally get a cup of house coffee and one of the huge bagels (provided fresh by Kirchoff's, a local bakery and deli). I have become acquainted with a few of the regulars, and I expect to spend many, many hours, days, and weeks in this establishment. They also have another location downtown, near the Market House, but I prefer the 6th Street location. read more

Driving from St Louis to Nashville. I started feeling like I needed a little something, so we picked a city off one of the green signs, Googled "best coffee in Paducah", and got Etcetera. One review, maybe here, said "This is the best coffee shop in the world". Man, did we laugh. Someone must not get out of Paducah very much. Sure, it might be better than Starbucks, but how good could it be? We owe that mystery reviewer a most profound apology. This just might be the best coffee shop in the world. It would more than hold its own in South Florida or the San Francisco Bay area. I can't say it would be the best in those places because I haven't been to every coffee shop in those places, but I just can't imagine how anyone could do a better job. Delicious coffee, first of all. Actual coffee, not coffee flavored drinks, and a larger selection than anyplace I have every been. Excellent service - yes you have to wait, but no longer than necessary. Delicious coffee. I didn't use the bathroom but I'm told the ladies was immaculate. Delicious coffee. Ridiculously low prices. Delicious coffee. Sculpture garden outside. Delicious coffee. Supports the local art community in what looks like a very direct and personal way. Did I mention the delicious coffee? I got the Spanish Latte. What's that, you ask? I did, too, which is how I knew I was someplace different. It's a latte made with sweetened condensed milk. And it was delicious. Incredible mouth feel. They also know how to make cafe con leche (which they call Cubano Latte), which just floored me - I haven't seen it done right anywhere outside Miami. Next time someone says they found something really good in an unexpected place, I won't be nearly so quick to judge. read more
