Meat Combination and Nene'wee with items 1-5
    Blu M.

Meskie's is so good! My friends and I hit this spot up since it was in close proximity to us and we were not disappointed. We were seated super quick and the guy who took our order was really nice! We sat outside in the back, which was really cool. Did not even know it was back there! We ordered the meat combination which has beef, chicken, and lamb for the proteins, and the nene'wee with yemisir wet, yekik alicha, gomen, tekil gomen, and engudai wet. These were a variety of lentils, peas, collard greens, cabbage ad potatoes, and mushrooms! The food comes one a huge plate all together served atop a huge piece of injera bread (an Ethiopian style sourdough flatbread). We also got a couple baskets of injera to eat with! We all dug in and everything was delicious. My personal favorite items had to be the doro wet, yemisir wet, and the engudai wet. This was chicken, red lentils, and mushroom stews. The flavor is difficult to describe and I cannot compare it to many other cuisines, Truly unique and so delicious. We obliterated this meal so fast. If you have not had Ethiopian food before, give it a go! It is amazing and there is a lot of variety. We all loved this spot and will definitely return.

Planned to take a picture before eating but forgot about that when Samboussa was served :-)

Almost perfect! Service was very nice and attentive. Our waiter brought us extra injera without asking and he was so friendly. Our vegan combo which we chose 5 of them(no. 2,4,6,7,10) was super tasty. I love the &string bean the most. We also got sambussa but it looked so oily so I didn't taste it at all. Also got a parking spot right in the front. The only complain was the cleanliness...... the front of the restaurant was so dirty as well as both restrooms.

The food was delicious!! It was also nice to go to a restaurant that had more than the B standard 5 choices. They didn't have tofu tibs which was disappointing. Our server was good but it wasn't clear if we pay from our table or at the counter. It was a little quiet on a Friday night but the food was solid!

The food is good especially the sambusa and the dip it comes with. The portion sizes are great. However, in my last visit, i was a bit disappointed since the menu prices and the actual prices on the bill seem to differ (tax was separate added to the total). When i asked the cashier about it, she had no explanation as to why.

I came here with two of my friends and we ordered two dishes family style, safe to say that the food was more than enough for the 3 of us! We absolutely loved it, and I was surprised to see such a large vegetarian section of the menu, it was very inclusive of dietary needs. The service was also good, we went a quiet/slow time and the waiter was very nice and checked in multiple times with us. The ambiance was also great, it's a very cute restaurant with a lot of nice art pieces.

The food is by far the best Ethiopian I've tried and I've been to several in Oakland, Berkeley, and all over the Bay. Their chicken is cooked to perfection with a variety of juicy and crispy bites and the atkilt wet (green beans and carrots) are a family favorite- even the kids love it! My son goes crazy for their shrimp and their injera is made fresh daily! Cool outdoor area where the kids can be themselves and not worry about disturbing others! Always come back!

So 3 of us ordered 2 meat dishes and they 3, ordered vegetarian dishes. We also ordered samoses (2 orders) and 2 lattes, and 2 baklava. Oh, they also ordered the stuffed jalapeño dish, which surprise was hot. All the food was delicious, even the two teenagers with us liked the food. It's got a good vibe inside and despite there being a pretty constant line we were seated within 15 mins. I would absolutely go back. Each dish was loaded with spices and I'm going to say it again, soooo much flavor. To be honest, we had no idea what to order or where to even start, so we got the sampler that our server recommended and it was soooo good. It was also a fun experience because we got to eat with our hands lol. If you're like us and completely clueless, go with the meat sampler because for $23, you get a HUGE portion and then can figure out which items are your favorites for next time. What we ordered: Meat Sampler ($23) * Doro Wot - spicy, slow simmered chicken stew * Doro Alicha - chicken stew in turmeric-based sauce * Sega Alicha - spicy beef stew * Minchet Wot - minced beef stew * Gomen - stewed collard greens We also got their Sambussas (half lentil and half beef), which were similar to samosas. Both their mocktails and cocktails were really well made too. I loved how they incorporated spices into the drink too, which was pretty unique.  So if you're looking for a fun date night or just to try something new, definitely bookmark this place!

I'm glad they've moving locations in a week. Wait staff was friendly. We got the veggie sampler for two ($40) and the meat sampler for one ($23). The veggie sampler was very filling, and each dish was flavorful. My friends enjoyed the meat dishes. The dishes came with plenty of injera. The spicy red lentils were my favorite as well as the carrot/cabbage/potato mix. I can't stomach onions so I was happy none of the veggie dishes included chunks in them. They were probably in there but blended or cooked down to nothing. My friend is diabetic so he couldn't eat a lot of the injera. We asked and the wait staff brought him eating utensils. When we entered, we stood around for a while and then figured out we were supposed to go to the back right where there's a few chairs put together for a waiting area. I flagged down a staff member and they had me put my name on a wait list. We were there early on a Friday (around 6pm), so we only had a short wait. Although this place has a decent amount of tables, I can imagine long waits during peak times. I'm glad they're moving to a new location in about a week and I hope it's quieter. We sat in the semi enclosed outside area and even there was loud. Voices echo throughout and since the restaurant is near a stoplight outside, cars and motorcycles blaring music go by constantly. Many were so loud just about the entire restaurant turned their heads to look at what was so noisy. As soon as we finished eating I suggested we leave since I could barely hear our conversation.

Located at a corner across from the DMV (on Sundays the DMV transforms into a lively farmer's market) off of Claremont, its sleepy vibes have attracted its own cult of regulars for years. Moreover, it's a quick bike trip from where we live in Jack London Sq, and I always make it a pit stop whenever we ride up Telegraph. An affordable bowl of shihan ful - a nice savory, spiced bean dip served with airy bread - can keep two hungry bellies satiated for hours. I've even tried to replicate shihan ful at home (SF Chronicles had posted a recipe) but honestly have not been successful. Best to just leave it up to the pros at Alem's. It's hard to describe the flavor but the bean dip is nourishing and bursting with umami-ness that lights up my brain, in a good way. Every time ive been Ive had to go back up to the register to remind them of my order and see that they have clearly forgotten about my order. This has happened THREE TIMES NOW. This last time we ordered to go: they forgot our order, we reminded them, and after waiting 45 minutes seeing people order and get thier food before us they still forgot a portion of our order.
