Any positive review you read about this place is probably fake and paid for. Their employees, friends and family are leaving those positive fake reviews! Also, they are not accredited with the Better Business Bureau and their listed address is a PO Box. That should tell you everything. So whatever you do, don't even bother with this "non profit" non governmental agency that solicits donations and government grants to keep their salaries going, but provides little to nothing for the people it claims to help. We were referred to this place by the LA County DPSS, so we figured they were trustworthy. What has ensued has been months of runaround, and being shuffled back and forth between "care coordinators", who do nothing but ask for information that you have already provided and is already in their system. At first they are kind and seem genuinely concerned with helping to get access to resources, but once they get ALL of your personal information, (DOB, Medical number, Medicare number, financial statements, social security, address, phone number) then the runaround begins. This information is VALUABLE and PERSONAL and giving it to an organization that is not accountable is very disconcerting. I dont know how they got to be recommended by the county but they shouldnt be recommended for anything but giving you the runaround. I will be filing formal complaints through all channels. This place is an example of how non profits and NGO's are breaking the system, by providing nothing, while taking in funds from government and philanthropies! Good luck finding anyone in charge here. No accountability. The only thing this place does is send you one email with a bunch of dead end links, (that you can easily find for yourself doing a simple Google search). This one action does not justify soliciting funds and getting money from the government to pay their salaries. Every time we call them to find out the status of our case, we are asked the same stupid questions by their "intake coordinator", who is unable to answer any questions. They basically hide behind their intake coordinators. Their actual "care coordinators" will do the same thing, just shuffle you around. Don't waste your valuable time with this place. I called to see if they had any In-Home Care resources for my mother with dementia. I spoken to Jane the intake coordinator and she insisted on getting my mother's Medicare number, DOB, home address,... before she can set me up with a care coordinator. I was uncomfortable with sharing these personal information since other non profit Alzheimer organizations, local community center, Huntington Senior Care Network, do not required it and promptly send the information I requested. Several days later, Naomi, a care coordinator, called and said she will first email me the In-Home Care resources. She said she will call me back because she had more questions for my mother. Three days later, she said she will connect me with a healthcare professional that can set up Medicare Palliative Care Program for my mother. I said I did not receive your email yet, she said she was very busy. I then said please give me the healthcare professional information and I will call them up directly. She said I have to answer more questions before she can do that... I felt I got a run around from their team and question if this organization is legitimately helping seniors? Odd that they need a medi-cal and medi-care card in order to help you. They ask all personal details, then won't tell you if they have DME to provide until you give them these medical/medicare numbers. I regret giving them my info. Never got the DME they promised. They call using personal phones and not a central office phone. Everything about it seems fishy. I would not trust them. Why would a non-profit need my medi-cal and medicare numbers? Short of a social security number, they ask for every detail of your life. Sad that they are able to run a business like this. It's not a non-profit, it's a business. For a non-profit org that claims to help no matter what financial status you are in, they sure ask a lot of sensitive personal information up front from full name with middle name, DOB, height and weight, home address, SS#, Medicare # and Medi-cal #, SS monthly income, all your other incomes, current medical issues, meds etc upon the 1st intake. There are so many scammers out there targeting people who are vulnerable when they need help the most. I was hesitate to give out any info to Helping Hands Senior Found. I spoke to so many other agencies and none of them ask for any of sensitive person info for generic and general questions. All other agencies also informed about steering off those who ask about sensitive personal info right off the front. Tatiana, the program director called me and explained to me that she's only the front in-taker for data, unless I release ALL personal info to them, her org can't help me as they need to verify they're "REAL people" that are seeking for help. This sounds really fishy especially I have so many basic general questions. Tatiana kept dodging and answer vaguely and kept pushing for my elderly in-law's info. She refuse to tell me anything about the org except direct me to the website. She told me she knew nothing of any services or have any info, as that's the job of different dept, and they will ONLY answer my questions once they clear the personal info. Since I didn't feel comfortable providing the info, she cuts me off and hung up on me and emailed me vague PDF. As a program director, she should be aware of what the org services and should even be more compassionate than just an "intaker". Should that be just a entry person's job? Hence I was taken back by the fact she can't offer and would not answer ANY questions!! I like to believe this is a ledgit org that have nothing but best for the elderly's interest. However with all the vague answers from the YT videos to their PDF brochures, all points to "GIVE THEM YOUR LIFE, before they can help you". It simply didn't sit well with me. With no basic questions answered, empty promises, vague services... as a program director, you're not convincing people for your suppose "help" nor gaining "trust". You should never be rushed, pushed to give out your Medicare and Medi-cal # as people can steal your info for identity thief. Unless something improves, I would be really careful and will NOT continue further conversation with this org. read more

I just got on to Yelp to complain about my horrible experiences with Helping Hands and now see that someone else has posted a very similar review for the same reason: Very disorganized and confusing "service" that appears at first glance to be geared toward helping disabled people get the help they need at home. Well, kind of. As they told me today (after 3 weeks of dealing with them and their associated agencies) they are a "Referral Service." Period. Very poor communication all the way around. And yes (like the other reviewer) the first intake person who I spoke with hung up on me in mid-conversation because I was trying to sort out who they are and what they do. I called back and was referred to another intake rep and she opened a file for me. I'm dealing with a fractured pelvis since July 30th and live alone and desperately in need of assistance. After that initial call, I began fielding a number of "contracted out" agency calls from various agencies and assumed that they were the spokes of the wheel and HHSF would be the center holding it all together. Wrong! One hand doesn't know what the other is doing and unless the homebound disabled patient keeps meticulous notes and records of all the phone conversations (including who called and from which agency), they are in trouble. I am in excruciating pain and my doctor told me not to do any physical therapy until I have x-rays in a month to see how the bones are mended. Professional Home Care Service (PHCS) has been insisting that I get upper body PT. Yesterday a physical therapist called me at 6pm to book for the next day. We got into an argument when he stated that he would evaluate my lower body and maybe give exercises along with upper body. I declined. I called my doctor and his office verified that he had signed an order to PHCS that just said "Okay for PT" and that's how the miscommunication occurred. I had to sort it out by calling his office and talking to his assistant who said she "meant only upper body." Today was the last straw when I called Helping Hands to follow up on a call I received when the file was first opened, from a nurse practitioner who said he was contracted with HH. He evaluated my condition over the phone -- and actually totally understood that I'm supposed to mostly lie down and heal. He was sympathetic and smart, and said he was going to put in a recommendation for medical equipment for me (e.g., a walker and wheelchair). So it's been 2 weeks and I called HH to ask the status. What a runaround I got! I ended up Gina who apparently helps run things. She said it would really help her figure it out if I could tell her what agency that NP was with and his name! She said she had no record of it in the file. Long story short, after hours of this -- she said he was probably with Doctors On The Go -- I called PHCS and they said nobody there had ordered equipment. But again, they mentioned DOTG so I found their number online and called. Within seconds, I had all the details. The upshot was that they had sent the recommendation to Gina's Helping Hands Office. So I called her and you know what she says? "Yes, I see it in your file but they only handle loan-outs and you said they ordered it." Baloney. So if they recommended it, am I any closer to getting that help? No. What good is Helping Hands to me? Well, they sent out a woman with adult diapers a couple weeks ago who tested me for covid and drugs (when I called to ask results nobody knew). I had a visit from an NP from PHCS who took my blood pressure and asked me questions. But that's gone nowhere. Since that agency is connected with HH, I mention it in this review. This organization is one THE best nonprofits that covers LA, Ventura, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego!! They helped my grandmother when our family did not know where to turn. The support they offered was amazing. The process takes about 10-15 minutes and it their staff are so nice. The resources are truly invaluable. I have never seen another senior services nonprofit care so much. I HIGHLY recommend them.
