    Great tapas bar good for people watching if you're seated outside. Cold "cañitas" (small beer glass) and tapa of Carrillada Iberica (very tender pork jowl meat) in tomato sauce are a must. Service by waitresses Trini & Gabi was cool and friendly. Will certainly pop there again with my cigar and my will to only chillax...

    We were in a post-Cathedral gold and religious art daze, but determined to get away from the main plaza area for a light lunch. Shade was a priority, and we stumbled on the tables and umbrellas served by Bar Europa. The menu is deceptively simple but the food was creative and delicious. Spicy potatoes were served as basic whole roasted potatoes with 2 sauces that were surprisingly yummy. The crispy prawns were fabulous and I enjoyed the bacaloa couscous. A great little discovery.

    Bar Europa was my third stop on a culinary tour of Sevilla guided by a friend on a warm July evening. While I am a huge fan of traditional tapas fare, and really could survive on tortilla and jamón alone for the rest of my life, I often wondered if there were places in Sevilla serving more contemporary bites for people looking for a more creative and interesting 'tapeo'. This restaurant answered my question. Had fantastic moussaka with basil oil as well as fried goat cheese (see pictures), presented on elegant square white plates (I had a third tapa that I remember enjoying as well, but can't remember what it was). It wasn't just that the plates were creative at Europa, but that they were very well prepared. Eggplant can be notoriously hard to cook, especially in moussaka, which can often come out too watery and mushy once the eggplant and ground meat release their moisture. Europa's version came out smooth and moist, but still firm enough to keep its structure. A large piece of fresh mozzarella sat on top. The goat cheese, meanwhile, was carefully pan fried to achieve a crisp caramelized layer without melting it. The honey and roasted nuts on top were the perfect finishing touch. Judging by the other reviews, this is apparently a beer-lover's restaurant as well. I wish I could comment on this aspect of Bar Europa, but I unwittingly took the boring route and drank a few cañas of Cruz Campo.

    Ensalada lanzote- wonderful salad with quacamole , olives, beets and goat cheese! Can't beat it with a pitcher of sangria!

The place was crowded and there were no seats available when I arrived. There were many small groups congregated around tables and a few couples as well. It isn't obvious how to proceed once you come in the door so I probably stood there awkwardly for a few minutes near the door before making my way to the bar to what looked to be a vacant seat. A gentleman informed me that it belonged to his girlfriend so I was forced to now stand awkwardly next to the bar. Bar tender to the rescue explaining that if I waited he was pretty sure someone would leave soon and I could order a drink while I waited. I ordered a sangria and also inquired about food but was told that I need to have an actual seat in order to order food. After nursing my drink for about 20 mins when I was about to pay and head out to find somewhere else to eat, a spot finally opened up and I was treated to the most delicious steak and potatoes and zucchini tapas. This had to be one of the most delicious things I have eaten on this vacation. When I finally vacated my seat to save a pair of new arrivals, there was a line outside of people waiting for the opportunity to eat here. I might chance it again before I leave Seville. I highly recommend for the food and friendly waiters but wish there was a way to turn seats over more quickly. One guy kept insisting he was saving his girlfriend's seat but in the 90 mins I spent there she never showed up. Who knows if she ever existed. Bread comes free with your tapas order and really complimented the meal.

I got a small glass of the orange wine, since I heard that was the specialty in Sevilla and wanted to try it. It was a sweeter wine but had a slightly bitter after taste. There were already a lot of people there, so it was a bit hard for us to see the performance, but from what I could see, it was really good. When it finally ended around 11, the lights came on. My friend and I didn't want to wait around for the next performance, so we finished our drinks and left. They also have plenty of seating outdoors in the courtyard, so if you want to just grab a drink but not watch the show, you can always sit outside and chat.

We devoured every bite and it was hard to pick a favorite. Both the lamb and pork dishes were 11/10. Not just the taste but the presentation of every tapa was fantastic. Their drinks were also great. The dessert was to die for. This place is super packed during peak dinner hours and there is barely any room to stand. Since we walked in around 11pm, we got a seat and were well taken care of all thru the night. Also noticed alot of veggie options on the menu which was great. Service was awesome ambience is chic. Tables perhaps a bit close together, not terribly comfortable. Loud, busy. As far as the service, it was our impression that our waiter was the only person serving the 30 or so tables in their dining room. Suffice it to say the service was not fast and not good. Inexplicably, every time we ordered a Coke we were asked if we wanted a Coke Zero. If I wanted a Coke Zero I would have said the words Coke Zero. Even when I asked for another Coke, he again asked "Coke Zero?" It took next to forever to get the check, and forever to get a cappuccino. At one point I took it upon myself to point the waiter to a table behind us that had been desperately attempting to get his attention. This was all not good. As to the food. First, our fault for not knowing what tataki meant. We did not expect to receive salmon that was seared on the outside and raw on the inside. So that one is on us, although we also think the meal came tepid at best. The lamb on couscous was dry and tough. The pork cheek stew was actually pretty good if a bit gluey. The calamari was good. The sushi as they called it was average. What they called the tiramisu was more like a pudding with some liqueur and chocolate on the top, and a little bit of breadish stuff in the bottom. Not my idea of tiramisu, and probably not yours either. So we could not get too excited about these various dishes. But what was particularly frustrating and bizarre was that two people sitting across from us ordered food that looked absolutely delicious. So we got to sit there wondering why we didn't order what they ordered. They ordered a large beef dish with potatoes which is on the menu, and we think they ordered a large octopus meal although we are not sure. Everything they had looked better than anything we had. So it may be that we somehow just picked the wrong items. So it was a strangely frustrating meal. This place has good reviews and we expected good tasting food. Unfortunately it did not work out that way, and the ambience and service were negative contributing factors. I can't entirely write this place off, only because the food other diners received actually looked very good. But I don't think I would go there again.
