I live close to this Hy-Vee, use it's pharmacy, do some in store shopping here, and have wanted to…read moremake it my go to. But there are a few things that could use some work... Here's one example. I tried the Aisles Online service the other day. What a sh!t show... These guys could really take some lessons from Walmart and Fareway. I placed an order on Sunday for a sheduled pick up of between 300 PM and 330 PM. As of 400 PM I hadn't received a text or an email saying my order was ready so I called into the store... I was told that some of the totes containing items from my order probably hadn't been picked up yet, but to go ahead and head that way in the next hour or so and everything should be ready. Oh hindsight... The "should" in that sentence was the key word. I think it was close to 500 PM when I finally got a text my order was ready. By that time I had driven to the store and pulled into a side lot on the West side of the store over by the loading dock within eyeshot of the Aisles Online pick up area...just sitting and waiting. After getting the message I pulled around and up into a lane at the stand alone Aisles Online kiosk. An attendant came out who asked for my name and then walked back into the kiosk and brought me my order... Well kind of anyway. They put the bags in the back of my car and turned to walk away... "Woah! There's not enough groceries here to even meet the minimum order... Where's the rest of my stuff?" I showed them my phone with the complete order, they checked their ticket, apologized, and went to check on things... Evidently the rest of my order was still up at the store? I watched them run up to the store and return about 15 min later pushing a cart with the rest of my groceries. So my scheduled 300 to 330 PM pick up finally ended closer to 540 PM. At one point I was done and really just wanted to cancel my order and move on with my day. While for other services and shopping I would normally rate this store at 4 stars my recent Aisles Online experience was so bad (1 or 2 stars) that I'll even my overall review out to 3 stars. They really need to look at their online ordering and pick up model compared to other retailers (where I've NEVER had this happen)... And step up their game. It was truly awful.

This one in West Des Moines off of Grand is really nice and as all of them carry on the tradition of making sure someone pushes your card out to your car and helps you unload your groceries and takes the card back how cool is that? In any kind of weather and always cheerful. I'm very thankful that they still value customer service. There are lots of people of a certain age in there and you could tell that they're there for many reasons but I'm sure one of them is customer service. One thing I always look for in a grocery store is this it clean? the store was very clean. The other thing is the staff, the staff were very friendly and helpful. They were working on making sure everything looked well stocked and orderly. The vegetables seem to be plentiful and for a typical family grocery store that seemed like they had a fair selection of organic items. They also had grass-fed beef and bacon that was uncured. They also have some individually prepped items which are good for a senior that may want to not have to prepare everything. Of course fairway is known for its meats...I always get the off the bone ham while I'm there it's really a nice breakfast ham or something you can chop up and throw in some mac and cheese. They have some really nice unbreaded pork loin which I really appreciate in making a sandwich or some sliders with pork loin. They have regular lunch meat there as well. If I was going to buy a steak they have everything from regular sirloin to really nice porterhouse or t-bone how many places do that anymore? And they were willing to pack everything I wanted individually so I could freeze half of what I was getting when I got home. Again I'm very thankful for what they do. They even have some Frozen organic items, and gluten-free items which were particularly of interest to me. They have all the other things that you could want from cheese to orange juice to California style Ginger lemon juice lots of selection. I've been when it's been crowded and not crowded and the line through the checkout area has always been fast. It's a complete grocery store with about everything that you could want.

I hit the other before heading to Walmart, Hy-Vee, or Fareway. Which one I go to first just depends on which one I am closest to from where I am at the time. Where I live is pretty much an even split between the two. Lol The revolving stock can be frustrating sometimes. But I've learned to stock up when I see something I like that I know won't last long (example: the Parkview Jalapeno cheddar sausages)... I just stack them up in a corner of my freezer. I try to get in on Wednesday evenings when the new ads go up and they stock the "Aldi Finds." I'd love to be able to go in the morning, but I can't do that with my schedule. My girlfriend and I both love the jalapeno ranch chips! The gluten free nacho cheese chips aren't too bad (generic Doritos) either... The seafood is suprisingly good. Though I'm sure even the "fresh" fish and shellfish has been flash frozen and then thawed at some point. I mean...we live in Iowa and not on a coast. The shrimp, sometimes available in a shrink wrapped clamshell , in the meat area is really good quality and doesn't lose a lot of it's size when cooked. if you like birria and don't want a lot of hassle... Try their USDA Choice birria style beef. Each roast is about 2 1/4 lbs. Chuck it into a crockpot for a few hours until it's tender enough to shred. It will not disappoint! So good! I'm not sure you can beat the prices for condiments and canned goods here. Very reasonably priced and very compareable to Walmart. Love the self checkout! I rarely wait in line for a cashier anymore. I used to be one of the guys scrounging for empty boxes... Now I have my stock of reusable shopping bags. Do yourself a favor and just get you a stock of bags! The store is always clean and the staff is friendly when I have to interact with them. Usually that just to grab someone really quick if I need pointed in the direction of something I can' find. I haven't used the curbside pickup service at either store... So I can't really comment on that option. It's got to be better than Hy-Vee. Lol Don't forget your quarter if you need a cart!

I purchased a dozen freshly made Chicken Tamales to add to my Saturday supper and the filling was moist and the flavor was off the chart full of goodness. The tamales of the day depends on what they have cooked-- today it was chicken -- fresh, moist and well seasoned. There are times beef or pork may be available with pork being my favorite. The store is full of grocery items from Mexico especially the salsa which you need to go with your tamales. The friendly and pleasant atmosphere is very neighborly making you want to stay and browse the specialty items.
