For my first time getting waxed, below the belt, this was a very smooth experience (no pun intended!) European wax center offers your first wax (of certain varieties) for free, so before I headed to the beach last week I thought, what the heck, let's give it a try. The woman at the front desk was informative and friendly, and my wax specialist Charlotte was very nice. She brought me back and got everything explained and prepped really speedily (I don't know if she just likes to speak fast or if she really was trying to fly through everything) but that was fine with me. She was friendly and made the situation feel casual and comfortable. The waxing didn't hurt too bad either, so that was a welcome relief. They have wax plans you can sign up for to save money if you're planning on going regularly. But as I wanted to see how I liked the results and how my skin did etc, I turned that offer down and was not pressured at all to do differently. So, free wax, no strings! I came here to get my eyebrows done, when I was sitting in the lobby I overheard a customer complaining about having been burned by her wax and the front desk lady was giving her the owners phone numbers to contact directly (red flag). I should have turned around then. The lady was friendly and nice but holy hell she DESTROYED by eyebrows. Not only are they uneven, but she accidentally dripped wax on part of my eyebrow that wasn't supposed to be waxed and in the process of trying to remove it she removed all the hair and almost half my eyebrow. Then when she finished I noticed she didn't even take the time to pluck the strays. I'm going to a wedding next weekend and not looking forward to having to draw my whole eyebrow on. I essentially threw my money in the trash coming here today. I had an aesthetician who I won't mention the name of, who was nice, but I straight up had a horrible time. In the past I've had some others like Allison B (LOVE HER) but this aesthetician's wax was pretty thin, only did one layer, strips weren't wide, and only went over spots once. I'd say about 20-25% of my hair is still here, which is harder to see because it's blonde, but just because it's blonde doesn't mean it should go unnoticed. She pulled off some strips too early in my opinion, which made it excruciating. With other waxers like Allison, her wax was thick, she had made little tabs, and they covered a large amount of area, so this review isn't about Allison, because she's great. One thing that killed me, was that there was absolutely NO AFTERCARE with this aesthetician. When I've been with other waxers, they oftentimes put on some sort of lotion or serum afterwards, and took some of the wax bits off. With this aesthetician (again, nice girl), there was none of that. Essentially waxed and left to pay. Tried getting some samples from the front desk, in which they were out of some of the stuff, and it was taking forever, so I just left. I've never been more angry at an experience. I still gave an 18% tip because I'm not a monster, but if I was tipping for actual quality I would have given $1. This was a waste of money to wax my legs. She doesn't deserved to get fired or anything, but clearly there is no coherent and uniform training among the estheticians. How do you run a business like this? Pick a script and stick to it. Words will not be able to describe how angry I am for wasting my money like this. I got my first eyebrow wax here today! It was free (but I tipped)! Amanda was awesome. She was super sweet and did a fantastic job. I love talking to her while she did my wax; and I'll definitely come back and reschedule with her. The place is super clear and nice--very aesthetically pleasing. I did NOT have a good experience here. From the moment I stepped into the door, I knew that I will be pressured to sell my soul for a wax subscription. Weird things that happened to me here: 1. They asked for my DRIVER'S LICENSE to enter my information into their system. Is this legal? 2. The esthetician had very poor prompts (when she was about to remove the wax) and did not remove the wax swiftly to alleviate pain. I felt being tortured when she repeatedly yanked my skin because she couldn't remove the wax! It was such a BAD experience overall. 3. Why was the esthetician wearing an alarm device on the band of their scrub pants? 15 minutes into my wax, it started alarming and she said she's done. I came home, took a shower and found patches of hair left on my labia. It's a rush of some kind to the esthetician, gotta make $$$ for the franchise. 4. From what the esthetician had told me she was being paid in the sorts of $8 per hour, made it sound like she was financially struggling which seemed to be another marketing ploy so I could be charitable enough to buy one of their expensive signature products. The marketing of their waxing subscription is so AGGRESSIVE, I wonder how many people actually buy into it. They put you on the spot, telling you how much you are going to save (well, maybe, if it's true that esthetician's are underpaid, they are paying an ugly price for it). When I said I have to think about it, the front desk associate pouted, frowned at me and with a stern voice, told me that I am making the biggest mistake of a life time for not subscribing. Can someone from Darden School of Business hire this lady because she got game! I was actually on the verge... but I'm not a believer, so try again. As for the patches of hair left on my skin, I sent them an email and never got an email or a call back. I am giving 1 star for charging only $25 (plus tip, so I spent about $30) for a first time wax here. Never will I be back. Very DUPLICITOUS marketing this franchise has. read more

Ewc has a nine minute policy grace period, which means you can book an appointment at 10:00 and you have until 10:09 to get there. This has happened twice: I am a couple of minutes late , but within the window, but the person at the front is talking to another customer or is on the phone. I am not acknowledged and then the interaction takes a while and then when I am eventually helped and checked in, they call me 'late' and cancel my appointment. read more

Michelle S is the best thing about this place. I usually don't like chains like EWC, but I came here specifically for Michelle after a friend's GLOWING recommendation and she did NOT disappoint! First of all, she is always so friendly and kind and in a great mood. I come to her for Brazilian waxing and I have never had an esthetician more diligent, thorough, and attentive than Michelle - she takes the time to get all my little hairs out to make sure I look as good as possible!! She is also very gentle (which is saying a lot when talking about waxing down there haha) and sensitive to specific skin needs! AND she is so knowledgeable about products - I never feel like she is pushing products on me, but she is giving me genuine suggestions based on what she sees I need and what I tell her is going on. I got a Brazilian wax at this location and am absolutely miserable this weekend. My hair was not removed properly and not all of it was taken off. I've had many waxes before by a professional aesthetician and have NEVER had any problem with prickly hair or razor burn a mere two days after my wax. There was hair left sporadically all over my sensitive area and upper thigh. She slathered the wax all over my vag in huge sections and yanked it straight up, over and over again in the same places. I believe you're supposed to pull at an angle to get the hair out of the follicle. I don't believe it actually took the hair out, it just ripped my hair apart at the base of my skin leaving it irritated and already growing back in. Not only was it painful at the time but I've been suffering ever since. I'm so upset I could cry. My vacation has turned into a nightmare as I'm trying to keep up, walking around a theme part with my private areas itchier than they've ever been. I'm on fire and currently in tears over this. This has been the most uncomfortable weekend of my life, I might as well have shaved myself with a dull blade. This has never happened before and this kind of service completely defeats the purpose of a Brazilian wax- which is to have clean hairless skin for at least a week (as I've always had after a wax). I wouldn't wish this discomfort on anyone. 10/10 would not recommend this experience. This has been a nightmare for me. Save yourself the pain and find somewhere else to get waxed. To add, the girl I saw was incredibly rude. She told me to take off my pants and panties and didn't step out- she said "I'm going to be all up in there anyway". She didn't give me anything to cover up with either. She was rushed and abrasive and clearly did a horrible job. Update: It's been less than a week and much of my hair is growing back in (since it was ripped up and not removed from the follicle, and there were short patches left behind the day I walked out of my appointment) and I am still itchy and miserable. Out of the dozens of times that I've gotten a Brazilian wax, I have never had one that resulted in this kind of pain and discomfort. I'm furious that I wasted time and money driving an hour to this location to have this done. Hopefully this message was actually passed along to upper management and they do something to ensure no other woman has to pay to go through this. Final update: Kitty, the manager at this location called me and talked with me about my experience. She explained what may have gone wrong (that it may have been removed improperly) and was very understanding. She explained that sometimes with hard wax they need to go over the same spot more than once, but no more than three times. She was so sweet and she offered me another try with a different aesthetician when my hair completely grows back, free of charge. I went to European Wax Center after a friend suggested it for a first timer (other than getting eyebrows or lip) because I have sensitive skin. I was not disappointed! Hands down the best wax experience I've ever had! The staff who greeted me when I walked in we're both super friendly, and they made sure that I understood that my first wax was free and how the wax passes work. I told them I wanted to wait until my next wax to make a decision on getting a wax pass, and she completely understood (I'm so glad I decided to get one though). I've worked with Jada and Michelle M, and they're both fantastic! Jada knew it was my first time, and she did a great job walking me through the whole process. Both of these ladies do a great job. My technician was a bit brusque but also efficient and did a good job. I probably would have felt better with someone with a softer personality but her work was good and she offered me any information I asked for. Definitely would not recommend. For a number of reasons. First of which a very strange late policy that seems to change with every appointment. I understand late is late, but make your policy clear to your customers so they understand what could happen. Or even post the policy somewhere visible so it's not changing with who ever is working that day. First they tell you that if you're 9 or more mins late they'll only have time one of your services and this time I'm barely 5 mins late and they say the had to cancel my appointment. I thought that was weird enough but imagine my shook when the person scheduled to wax me came out to grab another customer... during my appointment time..? How was this swap made so quickly if the policy is supposed to 9 minutes. But then girl tells me it's actually 8 minutes and then they have cancel it. I found that all to be very strange. Truth be told, they more than likely just gave my appointment it to a walk-in or even offered to switch my appointment with someone else since the only remedy was an appointment 3 hours later. The second issue is that they rush through all of your services and you will notice a sharp decline in quality after your first appointment. I was finding myself having to do a lot of clean up literal days after my second and third appointment. I didn't know if that was normal but after asking around I find that it is only normal for people who render their services from European wax center. Feeling rushed was also consistently noted as well. I assume this is why the late policy is as chaotic as it is, they're going for quantity or services delivered and not quality of services delivered. I was trying to hold out and give it the benefit of the doubt (only because this is one of the only wax places in town that I know of) but this place is truly not worth the headache or the price for quality of the service you receive. You can tell from my review that my experience was never great, but today was just the final straw. read more

This is my 2nd EWC location experience- and I LOVE IT! I have been a faithful patron of EWC for about 4 or 5 years. The hard blue wax works way better for my coarse hair than strips. At the Cville location,​ I have the privilege of being waxed by Michelle (with the red hair) who is AMAZING, ​to say the least. She is knowledgeable, kind, efficient​, and an excellent conversationalist​. She also knows what she is doing. I can attest to this because ya girl is hairy and she always does an amazing job! This place is beautiful and clean. My experience however was terrible. I had my first full bikini wax which was very painful (knew that going in). The technician seemed very rushed & though she explained the process quickly, she was not comforting. The whole experience was rather awkward. Afterwards, she pushed hard to sell me products as did the people at the front. They do 50% off your first wax which is a nice gesture. Lastly, i am slightly burned and very irritated along the area that was waxed. Hard to say whether that is a result of my skin or their type of wax. I have had my eyebrows waxed several here and other then the first time I went, the experience has always been awful. The technician has not once listen to what I actually requested or attempted to do anything more then lightly clean up stray hairs along my brow line, even that they failed to fully clean up everything that was clearly visible. Every time I have requested that my brows be made to have an arch following my natural brow shape as well as slightly thinner then they naturally are. Each time they have been made no thinner at all and made to look like a thick straight line. The first two times I didn't realize the issue because before handing me a mirror to see the end result the technician has filled them in and colored them to a pretty arch. It wasn't until I got home and washed my face that I saw what they really looked like. After those two experiences I've made sure to stop them before drawing them on to look in a mirror, and they were wrong. I asked them to be corrected pointing out specifically where and what I meant. Pointing out very obvious strays that were clearly out Of place. Despite repeat attempts they never managed to get my eyebrows the desired shape I am use to having. I always left needing to pluck them myself. I wouldn't have gone back so many times if it hadn't been for the lovely reception pushing me to buy a package the first time I went before realizing they had no idea what they were doing. If you're into the latest eyebrow fashion, you probably will like this place. But if you need someone who actually knows what they are doing and can properly shape a brow, go somewhere else! read more

I've been there twice now to get a Brazilian wax done. The first time I went was the first time I'd ever gotten anything waxed on my body so I was nervous and didn't know what to expect. For my first appointment I got Michelle M. She was so professional and made the whole experience comfortable. She was also very informative about how to take care of the area being waxed and about the products she was using on my body. She's super sweet and knows her stuff which is very important to me. I also booked her for my second appointment and now for my third. The price point for the services provided is pretty decent in my opinion. It's also super convenient to book appointments or change them bc they have their own app which is wonderful. What I'm basically saying is that you can't go wrong with this place. And I'm an enormous wimp so that's saying something.
