More often than not I come to this location because the prices are good compared to other locations.. today's experience wasn't great! The front desk lady with long hair, still wearing Halloween nails doesn't seem like she wants to be working, very monotone when greeting... it doesn't feel welcoming when you enter the establishment should check her attitude, but maybe she had a long day-- waiting longer than your appointment time and seeing other people that just walked In go ahead of you can make the day longer. You make an appointment and you still wait over 15 minutes for your wax service even if you check in early or on time isn't great. European Wax Center has a Late Policy Form Stating if you're 9 minutes late you will be marked as a no show, what happens when they don't respect your appointment time ? I've been coming to the Downey European Wax Center for years, which makes this review especially disappointing to write. I arrived on time for my scheduled services, yet I was taken back late due to front desk delays. Instead of taking accountability for the time lost, my waxer, Brianna, informed me she "didn't have time" to complete both of my booked services. What made it worse was that she then spent several minutes complaining to the receptionist about timing -- minutes that could have been used to actually provide the service. Brianna was not friendly, did not appear customer-focused, and made it very clear that my appointment was an inconvenience. There was no effort to problem-solve, no sense of urgency, and no professionalism in how the situation was handled. When a client arrives on time, they should not be penalized for internal delays. The front desk also seemed more focused on collecting payment than ensuring clients were checked in efficiently. Time is money. Long-standing clients should not feel dismissed or rushed because of staff mismanagement. I have never had this issue at this location before, which makes this experience stand out even more. I expect better from a brand that markets professionalism and customer care. Very disappointing. read more

Did not speak a word the entire wax unless I said something to her first. It was the most awkward wax ever, when I was done she didn't even open the door- she said nothing and started cleaning the table! I had such a great experience here! Everyone was super friendly. The front desk team made check-in easy, and my waxer was amazing super professional but also warm and easy to talk to. The service itself was quick and way less painful than I expected. She walked me through everything and made sure I was comfortable the whole time. Review for European Wax Center, DI've visited the European Wax Center in Downey before, but my recent experience was extremely disappointing and has ensured I will not be returning. Two weeks ago, I scheduled an appointment for my back, timing it perfectly as I was flying out of the country for a month and a half the next day. The issues started with the excessive confirmation messages: one via email and one via text the day before, which I confirmed. Then I received another at night, another early in the morning, and yet another 30 minutes before my appointment. This was incredibly irritating. Fifteen minutes before my appointment, while sitting in my car, I received a message that the assigned esthetician wasn't coming in and I needed to reschedule. When I called the office, no one answered because they were still closed. Finally, Maritza, the manager, called me and offered to have someone else see me at 9:15 am, advising me to walk in at 9 am. When I arrived at 9 am, three others walked in with me. By 9:15 am, everyone else had been called except for me. More people arrived and were seen before me as well. Despite requesting additional services when I booked, I was told only some could be done today. When I was finally called in, only half the services I requested were completed. For the first time in my life, I felt discriminated against. It seemed the staff were sexist, as every female was seen before me. I overheard a lot of laughter and giggling behind closed doors, making me feel degraded and undervalued as a customer. Maritza mentioned someone else would complete the rest of my services, but no one followed up. I was checked out without mention of the incomplete services, but the receptionist did ask how much I wanted to leave for a tip. This place is the worst. They are biased and only care for themselves. Writing this I'm pretty unimpressed about this place.. I didn't get the service I booked , I called and made an appointment a few days ago, and was super excited to have my very first wax of any kind ever.. I was going to do the full face . Made my appointment for 9:30 AM and even got a text at confirming my appointment, walked in at 9:24 AM and checked in.. one of the first things, the receptionist asked is if I filled out the online form.. I didn't know what she was talking about because I called in and made my appointment and nobody mentioned an online form.. so she asked me a few questions, followed by a statement, saying that there will be a nine minute grace period. In the future. I asked .. " am I late?" (Knowing I wasn't but wondering why she told me that) She replied no.. I'm just letting you know for the future. Ok.. that's fair .. I understand, peoples time is valuable, and so is mine ! I don't remember if she told me right when I gave my name or after I gave my answers to the questionnaire, but she said your waxer is running late .. I didn't know if she meant she wasn't there yet or she was working on other clients .. but I did ask how late? She stated "oh around five minutes".. I sat there for a bit, and then I asked if I could use the Wi-Fi.. to kill some time while I was waiting, and the receptionist stated that there was not any available.. OK.. at this point it's getting later and my anxiety is kicking in, I have many other things I needed to do, another client came in and was called in after about four or five minute wait .. I got up and walked out at around 9:45 a.m. And got a text at 9:52 AM stating that my waxer was ready. Now tell me European wax Center.. if you can text me at 8:35 in the morning confirming our appointment , you couldn't call or text me at 9:25 AM telling me that my waxer would be late? Maybe I could've grabbed a bagel or some coffee or something.. I just found this to be extremely unprofessional and rude . This is no fault of the girls at the front desk as they were very polite . I am sure they are told to tell new clients about the grace period.. But how long of a grace period should I give you guys? Personally I make sure that I am on time to my appointments.. there are many places I can go for services. I chose this place because their reviews looked really good. What a disappointment! I had a reward for an eyebrow service, and European Wax Center was also having a promo for 50% off new services as long as the new service was not done within the past 18 months. I was sooooooooo busy that by the time I actually had some time for myself, both offers were going to expire soon! I've been to both Long Beach locations on Carson before, but as luck would have it, both were fully booked at times that I could make it *and* were before the offers expired. The Downey location was my next choice, and luckily, there were available appointment times! I hastily chose one for the very next day, choosing any waxing specialist since I hadn't been and didn't really care who would be assigned to me. This European Wax Center is at the Promenade at Downey on the east side of Lakewood Blvd just north of the 105. It's one of the businesses closest to Lakewood Boulevard, so despite the labyrinth of the vast shopping center, you really shouldn't have any issues finding this waxing center. Just know it's on the north side of Apollo between Great Clips and Handel's Homemade Ice Cream. My appointment was for noon the next day, and I got three texts from European Wax Center before then. After the third text, which came an hour before my scheduled appointment, I realized that there was a chance they may not honor both offers that I was intending to redeem since some businesses, like Rubio's just up the street, would only allow you to redeem one offer at a time, but other businesses, like Panera Bread just on the other side of Apollo, could let you redeem multiple offers in the same transaction. I called to let them know of my intent because if they weren't willing to honor the offers, I would have wanted to cancel my appointment. Luckily, the receptionist over the phone assured me that they were willing to honor both offers for me as long as I showed them the emails. I arrived about 10-15 minutes before my scheduled appointment, and then I saw an email with the subject line saying my appointment got rescheduled. What?! Turns out it was just another confirmation email. Way to pull my leg! lol but I still had to wait after checking in. I waited kind of long, up until about 5-10 minutes after noon until Kelsey called me back to her waxing room. I'm suspecting they were running behind schedule thanks to customers who arrive late, like one who came in at 11:53 AM, and the receptionist said they were a minute away from pulling the plug on the appointment. If you're not familiar with their late policy, just know that if you're at least 9 minutes late for your appointment, you'd be marked as a no show. This is to ensure that the waxing specialists can stay on schedule. If you request a wax on the full legs and show up 10 minutes before the next customer's appointment, there's no way it can be done, so alternate arrangements would have to be made in this case unless that next customer cancels last minute. At least three other customers were serviced before me, so I'm assuming they had the same appointment time as me; if they were later, that would make me question my value as a client. Luckily, with how friendly and courteous Kelsey was on my visit, I easily forgot about the tardiness of my appointment. In addition to the eyebrow service, I chose the Bikini Full, which is similar to a Brazilian Wax. I had done Brazilian Wax before and would have chosen that, but since I had gotten it within the past 18 months, it wouldn't have qualified for the 50% off promo they were doing at the time. Bikini Full is next closest to Brazilian Wax, and so that's what I went with. Not going to lie, it was quite painful, but since I've gotten waxed at the Long Beach locations before, I knew it was going to be. The waxing substance they use to rip the hair off your body is pretty warm, so be prepared for that on top of the pain experienced with removing your hair. What I wasn't prepared for was Kelsey flipping back and forth between the eyebrow and the Bikini Full. I thought it would have been done one after the other instead; I would have preferred it that way because I had to keep my eyes closed for the eyebrow service. There was a point where I thought something got in my eye, but it must have been just my fear of objects being too close to my eye. During my appointment, I heard a ton of laughter at the front. I remember the two receptionists at the front were joking to one another quite a lot during my wait, but they remained professional towards me. Kelsey was great, and I can definitely recommend her as a waxing specialist. I wouldn't get her again only because the Long Beach locations are way closer to me, and I'm more likely to be closer to the Seal Beach location instead. However, if you're in Downey seeking waxing services, this is a good solid location to go to. I just hope they're not habitually tardy on their appointment times! read more

I want to address that I have gone to specific times and I always get the best service. When I am concerned about is the cleanliness of the establishment. All of the vents are extremely dirty and in several of the rooms I can clearly see mold. That's not only toxic to the customers because we are extremely exposed and laying down, but also to the employees which I'm pretty sure aren't even aware of just how toxic this can be. All of this mold is probably everywhere and it's circulating in the air. I'm not sure if this is somewhere, I'm gonna end up going because I just went there a couple of days ago and nothing had been done. I had asked a friendly young lady at the front if I could have a manager contact information but she told me she was not allowed to give it out. She then told me that the manager was going to give me a call, but it has now been three days later and I have not received any communication which is why I'm warning others about this. Hopefully they will get this cleaned out, and they will have an expert to remedy the mold and more than likely, clean out their AC as well because I'm pretty sure that's gonna be completely contaminated. read more

aly is hands down the best waxer i've ever had! she wasn't my first waxer, but she quickly became my favorite. from my first appointment with her, she made me feel completely comfortable--she talks while waxing, which really helps with my anxiety before each pull. she's also the least painful waxer i've had, and she never rushes through the job. she always makes sure she gets every hair, even tweezing any the wax didn't grab. beyond just being great at what she does, aly is also like a therapist to me. she listens, gives good advice, and even shares her own experiences, which makes every session feel like catching up with a friend. she genuinely cares and remembers details from our conversations, which shows she's not just there to do the job--she actually enjoys connecting with her clients. if you're looking for someone who's thorough, gentle, and makes the whole experience way better, i 100% recommend aly. i LOVE aly, and i wouldn't trust anyone else for my brazilian waxes! read more

I've been going to european wax center for about 8 years now and I've been to a few different locations. This location has a few waxers that are nice and you can tell they enjoy working there but there are a few others that make it clear they don't. I liked my last waxer Jackie. She's very sweet but i wanted to try out a few waxers which was a mistake. I had a reservation with Ariel. She walked me to my room, confirmed my service and didn't speak to me at all after that. She didn't introduce herself at all or even say hi or make any type of small talk. She made the entire experience uncomfortable and awkward. She went over areas 4-5 times with wax. The skin started to feel sensitive (it ended up hurting to touch for 2 days after which i have never experienced). I've been lasered over 6 sessions so there really wasn't a lot of hair in the specific area she went over 5 times. The wax was very warm but i tried to not say anything until it actually felt too hot. When the wax began to burn i spoke up and told her. She said "okay" and kept applying the same wax. When i was done changing usually the waxer opens the door and walks you to the front. So i waited after i was done changing she looked at me like why wasn't i leaving? And she opened the door for me to get out and closed it behind me. She didn't say have a good day or anything. She was completely silent. However, I was really put off by my latest experience after hearing the front desk girls referring to a customer who left as a "b**ch" and other phone customers as difficult. Super unorganized, overpriced, and poor communication. They can communicate to "remind you of your appointment" but not to tell you the wax tech isn't coming. I had an appointment Friday that was cancelled because the tech didn't show up, went back Saturday, and same story. Just went in today for my 3rd reschedule, and same thing. I was met with "I'm sorry we sent you a text letting you know". When I showed her all the reminder texts I had been getting with no cancellation, all she could say was "would you like to reschedule, I can try later today". 4 girls walked in after me and all were told the same story. Obviously it's messed up on their end! When I would go to the Torrance, Ca location this never happened. I tried to give the Downey location 3 chances, but NEVER again. read more
