She's been fantastic about working on improving my kids' strokes so they are more efficient in the water, and my wife and I really like her. As for waterworks itself, it's very customer oriented in our experience and we've been quite happy. Where they lose a star with me has to do with a couple things. First, the curriculum is very much focused on the standard swim sport strokes. This is great through breast stroke, but I think there could be more focus on more practical and survival skills (notably, teaching side stroke, more emphasis on treading water, and survival floats). Second, the Sunnyvale location has had a lot of closures for various reasons. I acknowledge it's been out of WW's hands, but it's a drag to go all the way to the San Jose Bascom location (which is actually kinda awesome as there's a free play pool).

At the end of this…read moresummer (at her final lesson), we found them to be ineffective in assessing and communicating back to us our daughter's skill level. We don't know what skills she mastered, and what skills are remaining to pass to the next level. This program seems to provide weekly swim practice (because the teachers are very nice), but not weekly swim *learning*, because the feedback & awareness of skills mastery is missing. Swim lessons are an investment, and our expectation was to have some degree of feedback and skills awareness at the end. UPDATE: Staff texted thorough comments in response to our request for skills feedback. We appreciated that they took time and care to do this. --- Overall, the program was good for getting our then 4-year old comfortable in the water, and being able to back float and swim to the wall. However, at her current more evolved stage (now 7, learning how to breath from the side and stroke consistently), we yearn for teachers that themselves demonstrate and model HOW in the water, and provide targeted feedback for practice. Our daughter had no idea what the techniques ideally look like, what motions to imitate. After ~10 weekly lessons this summer, our daughter wasn't able to advance effectively to the next level. Sadly, for her "advanced beginner" stage, progress wasn't compelling enough for us to continue.

Swim lessons are decently priced and sessions can be purchased via their website during the Summer. No need to be a club member. My daughter took swim lessons the entire summer, and we really loved the smaller atmosphere of this private club as opposed to going to the YMCA, which had much larger class sizes and I was looking for more one on one experiences which I was able to get at Fairbrae.

Coach Aaron taught my 6-year-old son for a total of about 4 weeks every weekday for 30 minutes each…read morelesson during the summer. My son went from not being able to swim at all (or even take a breath) to swimming a whole lap by himself without taking a break. In fact, on the very last lesson of the summer, my son managed to swim a total of 9 laps. Coach Aaron enabled my son to make this much progress, which far exceeded my expectations for the summer. My son also worked on and improved his freestyle and breaststroke under Coach Aaron's guidance. To quote my son, "Coach Aaron is nice and patient and listens to me." (Sometimes my son would say he wants to do a dunk or try to reach the bottom of the pool with his toes, and Coach Aaron would let him do that for a bit before going back to swimming. I thought that was a great strategy on Coach Aaron's part for developing rapport with my son.) I would love to have Coach Aaron continue teaching my son next summer, and my son is genuinely excited about that.

The private at-home…read morelesson format was incredibly convenient, and the 1:1 attention made a huge difference for my 4-year-old daughter. My daughter had tried group swim lessons previously with another organization, but never got comfortable with the most basic skills like putting her face in the water. Shawn was patient, encouraging, and did a great job balancing when to push and when to give my daughter a break while she was trying something new and difficult. By the end of the lessons, my daughter was so comfortable in the water that the biggest challenge was getting her to keep her head out of water long enough to listen to the next instruction! My daughter looked forward to every lesson and always wanted to keep swimming at the end of the lesson. We did 12 lessons, 45 minutes each, three times a week, and it was the perfect way to start the summer by building a strong foundation from which we will keep practicing on our own.
