I hired Jessica to help with a rent nonpayment case. She was initially responsive, and accepted my…read moresignificant pre-payment. However, before we could move anything forward she disappeared. For a full month she did not respond to emails or phone calls, with no explanation. After a month I finally opened a case with the state bar to investigate as I'd already paid her a significant sum, and I hired another lawyer, who was able to move things along in days. Altogether, the month-long delay in my case plus the cost of an additional lawyer cost me thousands of dollars. After well over a month, and after I'd completed the process with another lawyer, she finally responded with little explanation. I want to be sympathetic to "family issues", but I would expect at *least* setting an "out of office" email so people know what's going on. She only partially refunded my money (kept a significant amount). I overall found this behavior deeply unprofessional and dishonest.
