I have been there multiple times and each time I go for various services, things seem to get worst. This week I had the worst pedicure at Eveline Charles. The service provider was both rude and rough on my feet. She was running late for my appointment and then rushed through the services. I would have been better off saving my money and giving myself a pedicure. My friend had a lovely service provider and her pedicure lasted 25 minutes longer than mine. The services at EV are inconsistent and depending on who you get for a service provider you may be wasting your money. I for one will not waste any more of my time or money at EV. read more

I am adding an update to my previous entry. The day after I posted the review, I received a response from EC via YELP, as well as a phone call from the manager, Raheela, at the West Edmonton Mall location. She was beyond apologetic about my experience at EC and was very open to hearing about the unfortunate situation. I am appreciative that she not only took the time to hear me out, but also rectified the situation by refunding me the incorrect charges on my bill over the phone, and also offered for me to come back to experience a proper EC spa experience. Thank you to EC and Raheela for your attention to my concerns. My only recommendation, especially now that I am seeing other reviews for this location, is perhaps an education session/review for your staff about professionalism would be beneficial for your company and your clients! read more

Called to book a french tip hybrid manicure, was quoted $55. Got there and was told it would be $70. They were kind enough to honor the price I was quoted. However less than a week later and the polish is already chipped and peeling this polish is supposed to last around 2 weeks. I have a desk job. This should not be happening. I will never return, I sat down here after coming all the way from the north side, I felt so awful as I had just gotten my extensions removed and needed a pick me up, and to look presentable for work. I got in the chair and showed the stylist what I wanted she wouldn't hear it at all, she couldn't do it, after I consulted on the phone about balyage and someone who was experienced with it, I can understand wanting to ensure your hair is healthy I respect that, and if you can't do it I appreciate the honesty but even after another stylist comes and discusses with me, neither of them even helped me out with anything, most stylists who take pride in their job try to find a way to ensure the client is happy or at least give an opinion, if I couldn't do that, maybe what else would have suited me but not just shut down, I needed someone to guide me, I pretty much flat out asked for help and nothing? and this is supposed to be their profession?, to top it off she tried to get me to come all the way back another day to see another stylist after wasting my time to begin with.... I could even have some understanding for that.. The kicker? Suggesting I "go downstairs to rain salon and spa as they have the proper dye to achieve what look I am looking for.." Seriously?!. I seen some bad review for this location on here & Google and after two services with them within a six week span, I feel the need to share my experience: Which was GOOD!! I am glad I went and honestly, I think I found my hair stylist (as everyone knows, it's hard to find the One). I got my hair cut twice there & coloured and my stylist listened to what I wanted and made me feel so comfortable in being able to voice my likes and my dont likes. I've never been so pleased with my cuts and colours and the service I received at this place. As for the negative reviews for this place, as for someone who works ft in a homeless shelter, you come to understand & expect that everyone has those days where they struggle (a lot more than usual). read more

I took my boyfriend for a one hour couple massage for Valentine's Day. The massages were relaxing and stretched out muscles as well as focused on trouble spots. The BEST massage we've erer had!!! We will definitely go back and recommend a massage here to anyone!!! read more

I was there in their wem location today with my 20 months old daughter.I went for hair cut and ofcourse it took time to get it done.By the time my 20 months old daughter got bored start making noise and cried little bit.i didnt want to put her in carseat to make her more uncorfortable, i let her walk around. Store manager Tamara came to the station and tells me that " next time if i can leave my daughter with someone because couple of customers complain about my daughter" i was very disapointed and shocked first and after i asked her "pardon me?"She continued " two customers complains and says we pay lots of money for come here we dont want noise." I told her "so i pay same money to come here" and continued " how about if i dont have no one to leave my child what should i do? She said that my daughter touches their stuff, i asked if she break anything so she answered "no".I was so embaressed and felt so bad because of nothing.I said her she is a kid and its okey if she touch something or get crunky while waiting for mommy's hair cut , i cant tell her anything she doesnt understand + in their policy they dont say" kids not allowed " in their stores.They also cut kids hair why would you come to me and warn me for 2 people that they dont have enough patient and may not have kids to understand how normal is that my daughter did and the way Manager TAMARA talked to me.Not polite at all and tries to answer all the things that i said to her and makes herself she is right i am wrong! Eveline Charles (EC) gets a solid "B" from me, sometimes a "B+", never below. I have long-ish, curly hair that I colour (highlights on top, solid on the bottom). My haircuts are not easy, I'll admit it, due to curls and a difficult head shape, however, I've been disappointed by Edmonton stylists so many times.. Well, actually, EC is the only place that never disappointed me - i still go rarely though, because they are kind of expensive for a student budget. To the people who had such terrible experiences at EC I have only one thing to say: don't go to people you never heard of, or level 1 stylists, and you'll do just fine. If you're looking for a VERY knowledgeable, creative hair colourist, see no one else but Brandy at WEM EC. I'll admit people that work there are snobs, but who isn't in WEM? And Brandy is very nice. For a cut, see Pam at WEM (amazing) or Maxwell at Southgate (very good). By the way, Southgate has a much nicer atmosphere. If you're reading this a year later and none of these people work there, do your own research, don't go to the first person you see in any salon, no matter how expensive or cheap - it's a mistake. I had a body wrap at the renovated WEM location, the technician was great, but following the scrub, I had to bundle up and walk back down the main hall to the changeroom to access the only shower. Then towel off in the open space of the changeroom (when the door opened...) and back in my robe and back down the hall to my treatment room to finish. I have no idea why anyone would subject themselves to this when there are tons of other spas that offer a much better experience - at the same or better price. Eveline Charles used to set the gold bar standard, but not anymore. I've also stopped getting haircuts here, I had 3 in a row that made me double check the sign on the door hadn't changed to training academy when they moved. Overall - go elsewhere and enjoy your spa experience vs. endure it here. read more

Walked in inquiring about a job as a receptionist and was only given sass and told to wait at the front, standing. As I was waiting I let my eyes glide over the decor- which was nice but as soon as I got to the stylists they didn't smile at me, nor did the other receptionist who came up to the desk.. she ignored me! It sure was NOT an inviting atmosphere! After waiting for five minutes she finally came back and said she'd accept my resume but that the manager wasn't in today... It took her five minutes to figure that out ? She didn't even apologize for the wait! I think they forget that when you apply somewhere you should STILL be treated like a client! AND THEY DID NOT. I had a coupon from girlfriends and was really looking forward to an awesome experience. Well - way overpriced and I had to remove my nails because they were flaking off. Was for my wedding day and they did not last long enough for that but a few days later they started to peel off. I had an appointment with Lisa at Eveline Charles in Edmonton City Center yesterday Saturday the 25th of July 09 to get my hair and hair extension clip ins cut and colored. I would like to say I that use to love going to EC and I love their products my former stylist Julie made me feel on top of the world every time I came to see her! she knew what was SEXY! and how to make it happen!. BUT with Julie gone my last 3 appointments have been dreadful! I am a flip flopper with my hair color....its black for a few months, then it has streaks, then it goes light brown, then platinum blond.... I am all over the place. BUT Julie has ALWAYS been able to work with my hair Now.... about this Saturday. I made an appointment with Lisa. I came in and right away you could see she was over booked and she couldn't handle the pressure. I told the reservationist exactly what I needed... I did not leave anything out so her being rushed was not my problem. I wasnt sure on what color I wanted... I was Platinum Blond and I wanted to go a dramatic dark (I dont ever want my hair to look normal. I want to stand out in a sexy way) I asked for the color book and I said I want "tobacco brown"this was a color I had already tried last year with Julie and I loved it! Lisa did not like that idea, she said my face was too red for that color (strange when I had that color before and it didnt make my face red) Lisa pointed me to another color and said this would work for you and it's closer to your natural color (I had 1/2"roots)... I said I don't know my hair soaks up red and bronze colors, maybe we should try "this color"and I pointed to a color darker. She walked away with the book. When she came back with the color she said "This is going to cost extra because I have to do a color correction" WELL I never asked for a color correction I just wanted the color deposited on my hair. She put the color correction in my hair and in my extensions! SHE DID'NT DO A STRAND TEST!!! she was too pressured for time!!! I even told her I would come back another day to have them done with someone who had more time! I get washed up and I hear the girls in the back who were washing the dye off my extensions gasp and say 'öh no"...... I was worried... after my wash I was taken to Lisa's cut chair... as she took off the towel my jaw dropped! I thought to my self OH MY GOD THAT LOOKS ORANGE!!!! I said to her "is it just me or is my hair orange"? and Lisa replied "it''s just you". She wet cut my hair no no she wet TRIMMED my hair and started drying it. The girl that was drying my extensions came up front with them.... and what color were they? ORANGE BROWN! She said to me "do you like your hair color" and I said "well to be honest no! I hate it!".... Lisa immediately got upset and marched to the back where the color chart was and came upfront with it, ripped the color chart sample out and pointed at the color SHE CHOSE and said "look this is the color we agreed on"and I said "no that was the color I wanted"as I pointed to the darker shade. (It's funny how she didnt even hold the swatch to my head) I then said "I told you my hair soaks up red" and she flipped out again and said "no you didnt, if you did I wouldnt have added as much gold as I added" I thought to my self why am I arguing with this girl so I just gave up. She quickly clipped the extensions in my hair, roughly chopped them, sprayed product in my hair and I was finished.... I didnt even get my bangs the way I wanted but I was so devistated and mortified that I just got up and got ready to leave. When I went to the counter the young lady asked me "so how was your service today" and I could bearly hold my self from crying I said "Im mortified my hair is orange" and you could see by the look on her face that she saw it too. Lisa then came out with the extra wifs you were suppose to use as dye testers and said "here dont forget these" After Lisa left the lady at the counter said "so your total today is 300 dollars" my mouth fell open again 300 dollars!!! I thought to my self, 300dollars when I need a paper bag over my dark orange head!!!.... I took out the money and gave it too her, she then asked if they could rebook a time to correct the color.... I said to her "look, the color I wanted was tobacco brown. Lisa did what she wanted to my hair and it turned out like this, she ruined my extensions and my hair which in total is now over 500dollars down the drain! I want you to realize something! these extensions are not my hair, she did the same thing to them as she did to my hair and they both turned out to be a disgusting orange brown, it was her fault that it turned out this way not my hairs fault, another thing is that I did not want or need a color correction and to top that off the extension manual says not to lighten or color correct the waifs, if you dye them you should only deposit color on them and you should use one of the tester waifs to see if it will work. read more

I went to EC to get my hair done for my high school grad. After my stylist finally arrived I explained to them they couldn't comb my hair dry since it would fuzz up. I got to then watch the stylist proceed to rip through my hair with a comb and fuzz it all to hell. I was holding back tears as I saw my hair reach the point of no return as the man with the comb behind me grew more frantic. They offered to wash my hair and try again and were generally nice about fixing the problem, but the problem wouldn't have existed with a more competent stylist. This is couples with a previous experience where the stylist reassured me he would do fine with my hair because had lots of experience with perms in the 80's... Like an 80's perm is the sort of image you want to evoke in a teen girl before cutting into her hair. For the price there's really no excuse for such amateurish quality in hair styling. It's a place for hairdressers in their 20's to go to learn and ones in their 50's go to never bother learning again. I've had positive experience with make up artists, and have heard good things about their other aesthetic services. But for goodness sake keep your hair away! read more

I have had numerous awful experiences with them.. probably why they are always offering "deals"- because they cant keep any regulars. I had to find a new stylist since my stylist moved out of Alberta. I tried this salon with one of their 'deals'- on a pedicure. I was rushed- and didn't get a good experience you would think from a 'luxury spa'. I would have gotten much better (and less expensive) at the pedicure places in malls. I thought perhaps it was the deal and I shouldn't judge the service based on that one time. So I went again. My god it was painful. I had called to make an appointment- apparently "i was no where to be found"... Like really? So the lady did a eye roll and 'squeezed' me in made me feel REALLY guilty about it, i was about to just say 'nevermind'... the salon was pretty much empty. If you dont want to do your job go home? The hairstylist was alright. really pushy about the products- if I want/need products I will ask/request it thanks. I have had better hair cuts from my mom when I was a child to be honest. I dont know how you screw up bangs but it happened. I am also not too certain I like their business. I would rather support the smaller joints. I had a Facebook friend get hired on with them.. within a month she got laid off... Something doesnt seem right with that.... read more

I do not recommend getting any wax treatments from this "spa" for several of the following reasons. The wax was too hot, they double dip and the technique of the person doing the treatment was somewhat lacking. Although she was friendly, she did not remove bit s of hair(did she leave her glasses at home?) and her technique was more painful than necessary. My friend is a cancer patient and has lost most of thier hair. I was told that this was the place to go get the best hair stylists in edmonton. My friend who is still fairly upset in losing their hair had just received an human hairpiece that cost a fair amount of money. The hairpiece is glued directly on their head and you wouldn't even notice it was not theirs. its just like cutting normal hair. When i called to book an appointment for them i was told they would book their best stylist. They put me on hold to talk to the stylist and when she came back she basically gave the impression that the didn't have anyone qualified enough to cut my friend's hair. In school they train on hair on manikins which is exactly the same thing. If they cant cut my friends hair then trust me, i don't want them touching my hair or anybody i know. read more

This chain use to be my go to Salon for a good haircut, but after a visit to this location I have to agree with the previous reviewer ,you might as well go to Super Cuts, and save yourself money and their snippy attitude. Absolutely the worst haircut and foils I have ever had, and the staff would rather socialize with each other than be polite to customers. Spastation in the same mall is a better option. read more

I recently went to EC to have my hair corrected from a mistake at another salon. After seeing Danny who put some highlights and lowlights in, I was toned and washed by someone else. When they dried it, it barely looked any different and actually worse because he put two bright bleached chunks in the front of my hair which looks stupid on dark hair. I called the next morning to see if there was any way they could just dye the bangs back to dark. They refused to see me and said they had no time. Considering the price I paid and the fact that is it my wedding in a few days I am shocked at the lack of customer service here. I now have to frantically search for another salon that can fix this. I booked in for a cut and colour. The menu outside indicated 30 for the haircut and 100 for the colour. But once i sat down the bill just went up and up. First they were REALLY pushing a hair treatment for the colour as my hair was admittedly in need of a cut... fried ends etc... thing is I've had my hair in this condition often over many decades and my local would cut and colour and never ever had problems. So with that in mind I said no as I know my hair by now, seeing that I'm in my 40s. But she pressured me saying how she's afraid to colour w out it. So i thought wat the heck its just $30. Then she mentioned my colour would need tone... umm yeah of course. .. and it would be alot more then 100. She said let me get you a quote.... after waiting in the chair for 15min she came bk with a $ 200 quote... i thought it was wayyyyy too pricey. Then she asked me to sign a waiver incase my hair got damaged from the colouring. I was in shock... wasn't that why she was using the fancy $30 conditioning... At no time yet did I feel pampered relaxed and having fun... more on the verge of tears. So i said if thats the case cut out the conditioner and I'll take my chances... she could see i was upset and left again for another 10min. That's 25 min waiting in the chair and she hadn't even touched my hair.... she brought bk her boss who went on and on about the conditioner. During my wait i had decided they were not going to touch my hair w colour as i didn't trust them now. Long story i know.. but by the end the woman gave me a free special conditioner to smooth things over. She cut my hair did an ok job but the cut was a surprising $50 plus tax. .. that wasn't on the quote either. Never ever ever had an experience like that ...before anyone even put a scissor to my hair... Terrible experience. read more

I went into Eveline Charles for the first time a couple months ago. I explained to the young girl how I wanted my hair cut. Although she was pleasant and seemed to understand I was shocked when I realized she did mostly the opposite of what I asked for!! Sad to say that at 50yrs old it was the worst haircut I have ever had in my entire life. It was way shorter than I wanted and very uneven in lengths. It looked horrible and there was nothing I could do but try grow it out again. I called in on two occasions and was told someone would call me back to discuss my situation but on one has ever called me back. I went to this spa for a manicure. I will no longer be returning. Firstly, the nail polish quality is horrible! Save yourself $60 and go to the drug store to buy nail polish and do it yourself. It took more than 3 hours to dry! How ridiculous! Secondly, it chipped within 24 hours. Once again, if I am going to pay that much money, I would expect the quality to be MUCH better than drug store nail polish. I am appalled! I have put in a complaint to the company. My experiences here started off as ok, but quickly went downhill from there. My first cut was alright - I got mostly what I asked for, and it felt rushed, and a little awkward, but I was happy enough. Its hard for me as a middle aged overweight mom to get a stylist to get edgy and funky with my hair, so a modern take on a soccer mom cut was a score. I booked another appointment with the same stylist, but when I got there they told me she was out, and they would have a lower level stylist do my cut. It was... so sad. She was not dressed professionally, she made judgmental comments when she glimpsed my scalp tattoo through my hair, and she refused to cut my hair as short as I asked. I had to call her back to ask for help with product selection, and even though it was clear that I was unhappy with the cut the staff did not care, not even a little. I made another appointment with the first stylist, and again when I arrived they said she was off that day (even though I booked the appointment with them a month in advance) and told me that another lower level stylist would do my hair. Again, the cut was not good, and again, neither the stylist or the other staff seemed to care if I liked it or not. The staff seemed snotty. I since found another salon where they gave me the cut I actually asked for, and I get so many compliments - so I know now that this salon just has stylists who don't listen and don't have the skill set this price range indicates. read more

I booked pedicures for a friend and myself based off of the description on the web site. It states "Includes a sugar scrub, massage, cuticle maintenance, paraffin, and EC Classic Polish (to keep for touch ups), and EC Sandal's (to wear home), allowing ample time for polish to dry.". We enjoyed our pedicures however were surprised at the very small selection of colors. We both picked our colors and visited while enjoying pedicure. When we got ready to leave we asked about the Classic Polish to keep and were informed that they stopped doing that about a year or more ago. I showed the employee where it was listed on the web site and they gave us polish that did not match our color and said that it wouldn't match but it was polish. I'm really disappointed that after spending $90+ per person that they didn't honor their web site and give all the perks that they offer when selling the service online. I was in desperate need of a haircut and it was a Monday. Most of the salons in the city were closed. I decided to check out of EvelineCharles because it was in West Edmonton Mall and open on a Monday as well as open late which is convenient for me as I work late. I had a cut with Lan. She was very friendly. She wasn't the most talkative but that was okay because I was tired and not really in the mood anyways. she started off with a hair wash. This then transitioned into a very nice head massage. It was extremely relaxing. we then got to the haircut which took a little longer than I would have liked but I understand that she is new so that's okay. By the end my hair looked amazing, and she did a great job of styling it. I can't remember the last time I was so happy with a haircut. it only cost $40 because she was a junior stylist. the reception staff was very friendly and helpful, and overall I was extremely happy with the experience. I would definitely go back, & I would probably go back to Lan as well. read more

My 17 year old daughter has had a very poor experience at Eveline Charles (West Edmonton Mall location). The stylist was rude and immature. I am surprised, first of all, that someone as young as this stylist has been given the designation of "senior stylist" and I wonder what the criteria is - age and experience? I can't imagine that she would have more than a few years of experience given that she is so young. Experience certainly should also help a stylist learn how to interact with clients in a friendly, helpful and professional manner. To develop not only hair expertise but also to develop professional "people-skills." Not only was the cost very expensive for the benefit of "senior" expertise - too expensive and inflated, but my daughter had to wait 1/2 hour past her appointment. When the stylist was ready for her, she exclaimed that she didn't have enough time to complete the pre-requested and booked work involved for what my daughter wanted done. I should mention that this would have been my daughter's second appointment with the same stylist. My daughter was having color removed - as she wants to return to her natural color. We understood that this was a process and that it was best to remove the color gradually. Her first appointment was almost 2 months ago and the stylist asked her to wait a month in between - my daughter waited almost 7 weeks. We were a bit put off at the first appointment for the indifference and lack of professionalism by the same stylist, but felt that as the color removal was half removed by the stylist my daughter wanted to finish the the color removal with her. My daughter explained to the stylist that she had to re-arrange her part time job schedule to accomodate the stylists schedule (apparently she only works at this particular salon on Thursdays) and she arrived 10 minutes before her scheduled appointment. The stylist was 1/2 hour late in being ready for my daughter. So, to be told that she didn't have enough time to complete my daughters hair appointment and further berate my daughter, when my daughter stated "but I was on time for my appointment" doesn't sit too well. I has the worst experience at Eveline Charles. My first time at EC was for a haircut. I asked the stylist to take a few inches off my hair and some of the weight throughout, as I have lots of curly hair. She did exactly what I asked for and I was very pleased. My stylist was friendly and chatty and I thought that we really clicked. A few months later I came back to the same stylist for a colour and cut. I told her I wanted the ends trimmed and to go lighter all over with blond highlights throughout. The trim went great. However the colour was a disaster. She proceeded to bleach my entire head of hair twice. She processed it within an inch of its life. My hair has gone from soft and curly to dry straw that is breaking off. It's a horrible yellow shade. The bleaching process took so long that I was the last person in the salon. I could tell that the hairdresser just wanted to go home. She barely put any effort into styling it. It was a damp mess of hair when I left the salon. I came back the next day to complain and ask for a refund. The manager was rude and took no responsibility for what they did wrong. I had to wear a scarf over my head at work. And now it's going to cost me an arm and a leg to fix my hair. I will likely have to cut it off and start growing it out again. read more

I returned to Evelyn Charles earlier this year after a gap of a few years. I got what I can only describe as the worst haircut of my entire life. The person cutting my hair knew that I did not want random layering since doesn't work with my thick wavy hair. She nonetheless started to "texturize" it. I stopped her so she only did the back and one side this way. I also had asked her not to use any of their in-house products on my hair since I some additives in hair products irritate my scalp. But the workers at EC apparently are instructed to push the EC brand, and despite my explicit instructions to the contrary she put a leave-in conditioner on my hair that I think it was probably a silicone-based product. Even with that one use this product appeared to dry out my hair and left it looking damaged. I paid over $100 for this disastrous experience. I have read interviews with Eveline Charles and I know that the "your hairdresser-knows-best" attitude comes directly from her. I didn't want "texturizing" or mystery hair products on my hair and nothing can justify my hairdresser ignoring my clear and explicit instructions. I won't be returning. read more

I came into the WEM EvelineCharles location and booked a hair blowout for my sister and I for the following day. However, when we showed up for our appointment, they had no record of it in their computer and were only able to accommodate one of us. We decided that I should go ahead with the appointment for our event that night, while my sister would sit on the couch and wait for me. What was supposed to be a 45 minute appointment just getting my hair washed and styled, was an hour and 15 minutes of boredom and awkwardness in the chair as my stylist barely said two words to me the entire appointment. Not only that, but he gave me one of the worst hair styles I have ever seen. It looked like a bad hairstyle from the 80's with tiny ringlet curls and a huge backcombed poof in the back - I was embarrassed to have to walk through public with it on the way out, and immediately went home to try to fix it myself before the event. i actually will not give any star. stylist at salon do not even have idea that how to style hair. i have such horrible hair cut that i have to pin my bangs. the girl at salon said you actually have long hair so they really cannot help to cut my bangs( which i showed picture to them) and on top instead on being apologetic she started giving attitude. their manager is also pretty snobby... i would never go their again... so scared to getting my hair cut...very bad job by such a prestigious salon.. read more

Do not be fooled by all the fancy decor his place has to offer, because that's where it stops! Eveline Charles is extremely smart in hiring high school kids and sat acting that they are "senior stylists," none of them have any experience or talent in cutting hair WHATSOEVER. I had bad luck once here, so I thought I would give the place a second chance and booked an appointment with a color technician. I wanted foils and a color and came out with only a solid color. When I mentioned this to the " color technician" she became extremely mad and started yelling at me and caused a huge scene in that I started crying right then and there!!!! She offered to fix it but I refused since she was so rude and belligerent to me!!! This place is a joke, the Olof technician puts the color in your hair, then you are put off to the side never to see her again, instead to have these young high school kids or phillipinos finish the job!!!!! yes, Eveline is smart paying these people next to nothing and charging obsene amounts for the services...
