In all I just wanted something that was like $6 and the Groupon was for $24 worth. I ended up just sharing one Groupon with my parents. We got the wings, catfish, and pork chop sandwiches. Everything was hot, flavorful, and filling. We ate everything! The ONLY thing I would say about the food is I thought the bread choice for the pork chop sandwich (just 2 regular slices of wheat bread) was too soggy. Overall though I thought the food was great. The service was slow ONLY because one guy is doing everything. I thought he was very very nice though, and even when we said we didn't want the peach cobbler after ordering it (because we were going to eat dessert somewhere else) he gave it to us anyways. I think people should try this place out more, but I also think the owner should: 1. Change the sign that says breakfast on the outside to soul food or fried catfish or something that you actually sell. Breakfast is not your main thing and it shouldn't be because your fried stuff is YUM. 2. Promote the good stuff like your awesome food. 3. Read these reviews and address them because they DO matter. I've been coming to E&J's for over 10 years strong. I've been to 4 different locations (Hayward, JLS, Fruitvale and Berk), but I tend to visit this one the most because of it's proximity to my work. The Q has always been pretty legit, I always go with the beef and link combo. Lately though, they have started to slip. Multiple times now I have gone and the links have been really dry and the beef full of fat. Brisket is usually a lean cut after you trim the cap, but they don't take the time to trim it here. Also, they are really stingy with the sauce. I usually ask for extra because it is very good and either I get charged (which is ridiculous after paying 15 bucks for a plate) or get some attitude. Speaking of attitude... I've never minded the staff at this place, not always the most polite and friendly but enough to get the job done and usually accomadating enough. These days the owners daughter is always there and she is incredibly rude and unfriendly, and today she was making plates with her hair going every which way like it hadn't been combed in a week, pretty gross when working with food. I wish I could find a place that made food as good as E&J's with a little more customer service. Until then, I guess I'll keep going... albeit a lot less frequently. PS The older lady that works there is incredibly friendly, but I hardly see her anymore. read more

Never again. Just writing this review is making my heart beat faster. I was treated very disrespectfully by one of the employees while the others watched. Employee argued loudly over hot sauce when my 11 year old son wanted to switch from hot to mild. Unbelievable especially considering I paid $40 for three small lunches and he's insisting I pay him a dollar for a small side of sauce that cost them less than a nickel. The employee became very aggressive and we ended up leaving scared in a sketchy neighborhood with our food in our hands. This is the first negative review I've ever written but I don't know what else to do being that the owners will not return my calls or emails. My sons commented that was the dirtiest place they have ever eaten. I have had much better experiences at the Jack London Square location under different ownership, who did answer my call and offered to buy us lunch even though they are unaffiliated. That employee and the elusive owners have absolutely lost my families business. I won't bother to take more time to write how mediocre the food really was or that the health inspector needs to pay a visit... read more

No fuss smoked bbq at Everett and Jones I will keep this pretty simple. I ordered the ribs, with beans and potato salad, Smoked bbq ribs is always going to be a favorite meat staple of mine. Id say E&J is one of the top contenders when your looking for simply good smoked easily separated by the bone bbq within the bay area. Sides aren't its strong point and i think the slice of store bought bread they give you isn't for eating. Its probably more for mopping and cleaning your face with. I think wetnaps are too expensive to waste so why not buy a cheap dollar loaf of bread and consider them the biodegradable wet nap instead. Theres always going to be some place according to someones opinion that another bbq place is better than E&J and E&J is always going to be better than some other bbq place. Its hard to rate bbq nowadays because its like shoes. Theres so many different kinds of styles and design. Like smoked bbq, there are many different ways to smoke or grill and season. Don't get me started on bbq sauces either. Either way I love sweet smokey bbq and as long as its not tough and stringy, i will take it! read more

I have going to this location for over 10 years. On 2/10/21, my wife and I walked into the Berkley location and immediately received a look from the heavy set young man that was not inviting at all. That look put me on alert. We were the only customers at the time...So I took a look at the menu. The cashier (skinny doo rag brotha) was impatient, rude, grumpy and disrespectful. I ask the the Broha if he was ok, he said: in a rude tone, "I'm Ok." The negative aura in this location might have something to with noticeably reduced quality of Ribs and brisket and sloppy food prep. This experience has caused me to question my commitment to black owned business. This was not the first time I experienced this unwelcoming experience at this location. We dropped $70 at this black owned establishment that day. I'm done, never will spend my money at THIS black owned establishment. Sad and creepy. read more

For my first experience I have to say not so good. I ordered a two-way combination plate brisket and chicken and it comes with two sides. Brisket and chicken were good. My sides not so good. I got mac & cheese and potato salad. The potato salad was awful, taste like it was rotten! The mac & cheese was OK but they only gave me literally two spoonfuls, not a serving spoon a tablespoon that's how small my portion was, like if they ran out and just gave me the leftover from the bottom of the pot. Not cool. My Wife ordered the BBQ Rib plate, when she got her ribs they were burnt dried out and hard! I can make better ribs then this! now we know for next time not to come to this location. Being a black man from the deep south IV Tried some of the best BBQ out there but this place should be ashamed to be a black, family owned BBQ spot. 1st off... I'm walking to my car and noticed an employee outback smoking a cigarette and scratching his head, later I noticed it was the same Guy chopping the meat with no gloves on. Maaaan this place suuuucks!!! I paid $20 for such little food that was gross. The links tasted like beef jerky with BBQ sauce, the ribs wer sooo small with no meat on them and a teaspoon of nasty ass potato salad. And the people are rude asshole. I had such a great experience at Everett & Jones Barbeque! From the moment I walked in, the vibe was welcoming and full of that classic, soulful BBQ energy. The food was so good--perfectly seasoned, tender, and full of flavor. You can really taste the love and tradition in every bite. The portions were generous, and everything came out fresh and hot. Definitely the kind of spot that leaves you full and happy. The staff was just as amazing--super friendly, attentive, and made me feel right at home. This place is pretty good. It's better than some but not as good as some. If you are craving bbq though, it does the job. It's a little pricey for some reason but if you are alone or with a friend it's about right. The links are really good, the service is decent and it is in a fairly convenient location. I will say, the first time I tried to stop in here, they were closing early, like an hour early. I guess they had a slow day and were done, but that really sucked because I was hungry. I went back and have visited a couple times now, so I can say without the original incident it would probably be a four star. Maybe an update will come in a little while. read more

I've been going to this place for years. There portions have always been on the smaller side, but I just order the dinner size with extra potato salad to make sure it's enough food. But NEVER again! OMG, the dinner portion was sooo small, if I had ordered a sandwich, it probably would have been two bites of meat. The place was empty when I walked in, the guy behind the counter just looked at me and went to the chopping board, no greeting at all even though I said Hey. What brought me in was the amazing smell. What will make me never go back again was the 1) Rudeness. They acted like i was waisting their time. I felt like they honestly did not want my business. 2) The menu was weak! 3) Portions were small, thrown onto a paper plate with tin foil, and the average sliced bread from the Safeway or something, c'mon. I went to lunch with a friend here the other day and a woman walking by came over asking for money. Instead of chasing her away from the customers the owner kindly asked her to let her customers eat in peace and then bought her a hot meal. It was a really classy way to handle the situation. This place sucks. You have to stand in a god awful line while they take one order at a time...and make the order. Then after the long wait, the meat was tasteless. It was an ideal place to take a group because 1) it was fast casual 2) everyone can put in their individual orders without the awk who's-going-to-put-their-card-in issue 3) there were 2 restaurants (Chimmelier + Oh G Burger) in 1 so more options! What I got: 8 pc sweet gochujang wings (sauce was called YANG'YUM') and a side of tots with a cup for water **the wings were from Chimmelier and the tots were from Oh G Burger We were able to combine two tables together to fit our group of 5 and the cashier brought our food over in quick succession. The tots were my fav even tho the wings were supposed to be the star of the show. I liked how they gave me PLENTY of disposable gloves because the sauce is v sticky. Gochujang is a savory, sweet Korean chili paste, but I would say it was more sweet than spicy. I enjoyed my meal but maybe would wanna try a dry rub because putting on gloves every time can be a chore. I went for a yelp elite perk once and grabbed their chicken sando which was tasty.

But i wanted to try the wings as well! I got the 8-pc wing combo with fries and it was very tasty! The wings were big and crispy with a kick! I was only to manage to eat three pieces so I took the rest home! The fries was good but should have tried the other flavors! Overall, the food is flavorful, the place is small but cozy and with really good service! Will try other items next time!

Slaw is vinegar based so it is nice and light. Macaroni had a good texture. So good, in fact, I ended up ordering another plate to try their pork ribs. Delicious as well! Staff is friendly. It will only be a matter of time before they make a huge name for themselves! Be sure to keep up with their pop ups if you ever want to try them out!
