Stopped by Wikiwiki Hawaiian BBQ with a friend for lunch. There was hardly any people in the late afternoon, and the employees, despite being on their lunch break, made our orders quickly. I was feeling hungry, so I ordered the BBQ Mix Plate, with 2 scoops of rice and 1 scoop of macaroni salad. I thought the price was great, as they were very generous with the portions; I ended up taking half of it home for dinner and still felt full. I loved the macaroni salad, the rice-to-meat ratio was great -- just that the beef short ribs was way too chewy. It was flavorful and marinated properly, but I was just unable to get it apart and off the bone, especially with just the flimsy plastic utensils that they gave us. Not totally unrelated - the restaurant doesn't look too well-maintained, and while that usually isn't an issue for me, the floors were evidently dirty with crumbs and lettuce leaves littered about by other customers. Their plastic cups had dust (?) in them and friend didn't feel too comfortable drinking water from their soda machine - water had a strange color and taste to it, so her only other option was to buy a plastic bottle of water on their menu for $1.50. Not a huge deal, but definitely not a positive in terms of experience, so I'll likely only make my return if I'm particularly missing their macaroni salad. read more

Did you know "Wiki Wiki" is an actual Hawaiian phrase? Unsurprisingly it means to hurry up, even though I thought the name had something to do with WikiLeaks and that there was something classified about the way they cooked their BBQ. OK, I didn't really think that, but it does sound like a record scratching move during a '80's rap song, doesn't it? Anyway, I decided to go full tilt Hawaiian and order for delivery the $14.90 Pork Lau Lau from this spot on Shattuck. Completely wrapped in taro leaves, pork and butterfish were packed together. It was steamed like I was at a Waikiki beach luau with sweaty dancers twirling their torches. Food tasted a bit werid (kalbi meat wasn't fresh. It didn't taste right). The mac salad had a bit more white pepper taste to it. The frying oil used might of been also used for fish because you taste fish in the chicken katsu. Not sure if I will be back. read more

Everyone at my event said the food was delicious considering there aren't many Hawaiian bbq food options around in the area. Solid hole in the wall on a main street. The lady working the counter was quite friendly and helpful. There's a lot of different options for mixing and matching so you can get whatever you're in the mood for. The food was made to order so took a minute for pork lau lau and short ribs. They accept call in or online orders if you'd rather not wait and plan on taking it out. The food itself was good. Very good mac salad and double portion of rice like other Bay area Hawaiian spots. The lau lau has good flavor but was a little light on filling. The short ribs came with two, two bone pieces. Maybe these are because it's the combo but would definitely expect more for a solo order. Overall a good amount of food a tasted good. The space has some tables and drink machine. I got water from the machine but definitely looks like it's seen better days. Wikiwiki is definitely my go-to comfort food when I just can't be bothered to cook dinner. The grilled garlic fish plate is my favorite, and one order will usually last me 2 meals. The meal comes with macaroni salad, two scoops of rice, and shredded cabbage, all of which will leave you full and happy. Descent food and huge portions. I read some people's reviews saying that the portions are small and I can't wrap my head around it. I got the loco moco which came with 2 patties of meat, 2 fried eggs, rice, gravy and mac salad. It was delicious and I ate it for 2 meals. I just came in Yesterday, morning. I was answering questions, and this place came up. I was not aware of this place, and I was very excited, to try this place. I am a very big fan, of LOCO MOCO, and often, I have this, when I am in Hawaii. I go twice a year at least! I ordered, the loco moco, and Portigues Sausage Misubi, and was very pleased with the quality of the food, how well it was prepared. Whilst waiting, I was reading the menu on the wall. I am very happy of the choices that are available, going to at least take a bit to go thru this menu, every week, as I am going at least weekly! I will have to try the Hawaiian BBQ, next visit. By no means is this the highest quality Hawaiian food around but it did the job, I was satisfied. Food: I ordered the mini chicken katsu with substituting rice for Mac salad. The price & meal was reasonable. The sauce was a bit too sweet for me so I recommend adding some spicy sauce to balance out the sweetness. I appreciate this place for not having too many fatty chicken pieces; they were relatively less of the fat despite it being dark meat. The chicken itself was fried to perfect, it remained crisp even though I ate it an hour later. Overall, food was filling & even had leftovers to eat as a second meal. Parking: Considering this place is several blocks from the heart of downtown, there was plenty of parking. You're better off driving south to find parking rather than north. Otherwise, it won't hurt to walk a few blocks if needed. This is such a great place for college students because the food is super cheap. They have specials like 2 chicken sandwiches for $3.75 which is cheaper than some fast food restaurants. And although the food is cheap, it still tastes great. I got the Spam Musubi and the Loco Moco and both of them were delicious. I love spam, so spam musubi is one of my favorite Hawaiian BBQ dishes. The combination of white rice, salty spam, and sweet teriyaki sauce is super good. The loco moco is one of their more expensive dishes, but the portion size is massive. It came with 2 medium sized hamburger patties, 2 fried eggs, macaroni salad, and a bunch of rice all smothered in gravy. The rice was so good because it soaked up the gravy and the egg yolk. The hamburger patties were meaty and the char on them added a depth of flavor. This is such a great place to get food if you're on a budget, but it's still good even if you aren't looking for cheap food. I'm not a fan of macaroni salad, so I asked the lady at the register if I could sub it for salad. I saw a few plates with side salads on Yelp and figured that I could do it. The lady at the register just proceeded to give me a blank stare. Okay, let's try this again. WHAT can I sub for the macaroni salad? She says broccoli. Really? BROCCOLI? Okay, whatever. I did it. But what she failed to mention was that there was an additional charge for it. Oh well, already ordered it. I ended up getting a spam musubi too. Went to sit down and most of the tables were dirty. Finally found a table that looked okay, but when I went to rest my arm on the table, it felt ridiculously sticky. Yuck. If nobody is in here, why isn't there anyone taking the time to wipe down the dirty ass table tops? My food arrives and it actually looks delicious. Looks... delicious. LOOKS. Just "LOOKS". Looks... are deceiving. VERY deceiving. Let's break down this disastrous meal: *FROZEN seafood! WTFAAACK? Why are you serving me frozen stuff? I can buy that at the grocery store! And, if that wasn't enough: *The fish and shrimp were OVER fried! Sh*t was brick hard and probably could have broken a window if I had thrown it at something. *BBQ Short ribs were like 80% FAT! Good GAWD, my effing jaws were hurting from chewing on these damn short ribs for so long! You would think that all of that chewing would result in me actually being able to swallow the damn thing, but most of it got spit out. I just... I couldn't do it. *The spam musubi should be renamed to rice musubi!!! That was basically all that I tasted! Hella rice, and the little bit of spam that I did taste was super rubbery. It was just... a mess. Could not eat this either. *ONE piece of broccoli as my replacement for the macaroni salad. Um, really? And you wanna charge extra for that?! But it honestly didn't matter in the end because this meal was horrific. This food was NOT fresh and tasted like it had been cooked in 1,000 year old oil. I literally couldn't eat it. It was inedible, no exaggeration folks! And to top it off, their establishment is just dirty. I went to the restroom and there were ants crawling all over the place. On the walls, around the sink, on the floor, and in the trash can. LAWD! Don't let me see their last health inspection! I don't even WANNA see it. If I could have one wish it would be to be able to order on line and designate a pick up time; right now your order is ready in 15 minutes so if you need more time you have to order live (is live a thing?). We picked the Wiki Wiki BBQ Mix Plate and it did not disappoint, the REAL surprise was the macaroni salad. We loathe everybody's macaroni salad and we loved this one.
