Regardless of what they say or their released numbers they are a KILL shelter. I found a stray dog with no chip or ID on saturday night in snohomish near mill creek. My friends and I kept him overnight with our three other dogs. I slept with him all night with one other dog. We dropped him off at what we thought was a no kill shelter the next day. I called several days later when he disappeared from the lost and found page tonask if his owner had picked him up. I then emailed too They took several days to call back only to tell me they had euthanized him for dog aggression. The lady did not sound sad but even kind of smug. Please don't ever drop off an animal there. Don't ever support them. That dog spent all night with our dogs and never tried to bite or attack any of them. I just handed off that poor dog to those uncaring and horrible people and I'm so sorry to him for that. Don't ever drop off any animal there. Yes, adopt the pets they already have there out, but don't ever ever ever let them get their hands on another animal. They use NoKill as marketing to get donations and support. We should all go to the county officials and demand this place be reformed. read more

Just called to find out about adopting an older cat and the person I spoke to was extremely RUDE to me. She abruptly told me there were no appointments to come in and interact with the animals: you had to go on their site and pick one out from a picture then make an appointment to pick it up, sight unseen. I think they're taking this Covid thing a little too seriously. I'm willing to wear 2 masks to go in there and pick out a cat but I refuse to pick a pet out from just a picture. I just lost my cat 2 days ago that I had for 13 years. She died at home and I'm glad I didn't bring her THERE to be euthanized!! Very disappointing experience. read more

Recently my car Jelly went missing. It truly was one of the most horrible, heart wrenching experiences. Each day I sat there worried, not knowing if he was dead, alive, lost or hurt somewhere, alone wondering where I was. His microchip has my roommates number attached to it. Shortly after having gone missing, a prior commitment required her to make a trip to England. Our phones here do not work over there. My roommate gets back after six days and is playing her messages on speaker phone. That's when we heard it; the Everett animal shelter left a message saying that they had our cat Jelly. I cannot express the feeling I felt after hearing those words. I genuinely believed in my heart that I would never again experience the joy that guy brought me. As of today, the nightmare I thought to be over still persists. I can understand that there are protocols and procedures.. I am not unreasonable.. However, when I learned that Jelly had been adopted out, I found myself at a loss for words. We spent $40 for a microchip, something I think would lend evidence to the notion that there are one or more people who care about the animal at hand. If I were you I would take that money and put it towards something that actually does some good. There are live gps tracking devices i.e. Tile or pet gps tracker. One can purchase a Tile gps 4 pack (4 live gps trackers) for the same cost of a microchip a shelter offers. We miss our cat Jelly so much and thus far we have been met with nothing but Everett animal shelter employees such Rachelle whom upon inquiring as to why more wasn't done to get a hold of us, made no attempt to even fake having even the smallest bit of compassion. this is what I know: -one call total was made trying to get a hold of before our cat was adopted out.. in no situation does the effort output of one phone call attempt to contact the owner of a lost pet seem acceptable. -no email was sent (something that would've been received while my roommate was out of the country) -Rachelle, the employee we first made contact via the phone with, was an absolutely nauseating experience. 0.00 compassion, 0% effort made on our behalf, 100% lies (told us she would run a particular thing past her manager and she guaranteed us we would be called back to know what happened, one way or the other. Last year I went here and picked out a dachshund and brought it home. It was a good experience at the shelter and the dog fit in well with the dogs we already had. This year we went back to get another dog. We brought the dog we had got the year before. It was difficult to tell how they were going to get along in a short visit. We brought the dog home and gave it every opportunity to fit in. It hurt my other dog on day 4. So I had no choice but to bring it back. It was a bad experience. Everett Animal Services operates The City of Everett Animal Shelter. The shelter opened at it's new location on April 3, 2009. The shelter appears smaller than the previous facility and presently all phases of development are not complete. My recent experience with the shelter began after April 10th when a previous client, due to unfortunate economic difficulties resulting in relocation, chose to surrender her two, 10 yr. old black cat siblings to the shelter. A KILL shelter. The following week I contacted a shelter official to plea that the cats be transferred to a NO-KILL shelter and that I was in the process of spreading the word of their urgent need for adoption. The official confirmed that they were friendly and healthy and that she thought most shelters were full. On April 17th I visited the shelter to photograph Sabrina & Star. The Reception Staff was very helpful and the Volunteer that assisted us very caring and dedicated. We expressed our concern to the Volunteer of Sabrina & Star's time running out and were told the shelter was not that crowded and it shouldn't be the case. Monday morning, April 20th I called hoping one or both had been adopted over the weekend and was SHOCKED when I was told they took ill and were euthanized. Thursday, April 23rd further details revealed the cats appeared to be breaking with upper respiratory infections and due to their age and inability for staff to care for them on site and lack of suitability for foster care or adoption because of age they were euthanized. This is a EXTREMELY SAD state of ANIMAL WELFARE. The plight of senior cats in shelters is deadly when they could be treated, recover and offer a human companion many more years of companionship. I understand that once the owner relinquishes the pet to the shelter the shelter has no obligation to contact the owner. You would think that when an individual has contacted, visited and made it clear of their concern that they could have at least contacted me about their decline in health before they were KILLED. Pet owners need to make every attempt available to avoid surrendering their dearly beloved pets to KILL SHELTERS. It is TRULY SAD that it appears there are not many resources available for senior cats to be housed in no-kill facilities. read more

We adopted a kitty from the Everett shelter today. Prior to visiting the shelter we looked at the available cats on their website and printed up / filled out their adoption form. Didn't quite know what to expect from a shelter, walked in and was quite impressed. We were greeted by a very friendly young woman who told us we could go right into the cat visiting area. Shelter volunteers guided us around the facility and after we turn in our filled out adoption form we could fall in love with our chosen kitty. Facilities are beautiful. The adoption process completed by the same friendly front desk lady was extremely professional. She advocated the pets best interests while being utterly customer friendly. Tonight our new addition to the family is adjusting nicely. We are in love. Very pleasant experience!!! read more

I was bitten by a dog at the dog park. Being bitten in any capacity sucks. Playtime can be rough between our loved canine friends, being mouthed happens around so many creatures. This was aggression, this was a bite. I reported it to an animal control officer. This person passed the buck (me) to a different officer. Then I hear nothing. A week passes, I called back to inquire. I am then treated to the most abysmal attitude and condescending behavior, typical of DMV or solid waste - but animal control?? come ON. The female officer continues the lingo of superiority, advising me I should have "confronted the person with the dog" and "it was just puppy-play." She then suggests I follow this person next time to THEIR HOME so I can get an address. Turns out she was actually sitting in her truck that day, talking to the owner of the biter. Apparently she must take a liking to him, as my concerns fell on deaf ears, but a very unprofessional mouth. Networking near the poop can. nice. Upon speaking to the director of animal control, he echoed the sentiment of not giving a rat's ass, with as much poor grammar as the noble officer. Yay. Everett. Do not get bitten here. read more

Animal care, adoptions, lost pets, dog bites, and the death of a pet are such emotional issues... I think that is why the review of this shelter are so all over the scale. People need to remember a shelter like this is a not-for-profit organization that is run by humans dealing with governmental red tape and situations that have volatile emotions. My cat just died and I needed her cremated. My experience at the new shelter was caring, respectful and free of hassle. I really like their new facility. I think that it provides the animals with a nice temporary place while they wait for a forever home. Funding is always too short for the demands and I am sure they do everything they can to keep pets healthy and alive until they can get a new home. People that complain about adoption fees are probably not going to be good owners, having a pet costs money. Feeding them, caring for them, treating their illnesses is expensive. If you think an adoption fee is too much then you have no idea how much it costs to keep a pet. Buying one from a breeder or store, which I do not endorse, is even more expensive. Four years ago our Lab, Max, and Pointer, Mini, both passed away after twelve years of our living with them. My wife, an invalid, and I, considering our age (72 qnd 80 repectively at the time), had decided - there would "...be no more dogs..." I "just happened" to be driving by one day, and "just happened" to decide to stop in and see the new facility - where I "just happened" to see a Bichon mix who - when I took her out of the cage - ripped off my heart - and after " just happening" to pay the fee, "just happened" to jump in my car and ride home with me. There was no doubt about the little girl dog's ability to steal your heart. By the time we home, she was sitting on the center console and acting as though we had been buddies for a l o n g time!. My wife caved in immediately - and "Muffy" (her new name) took over residence in our home. We have three cats - and within a few days the kitties and Muffy were playing, sleeping, eating and managing our home together. This little dog, coming from a clean, well-organized and friendly shelter is now the center of our lives. This is the third dog, in a period of thirty years, that we have adopted from the Everett Shelter. I could never work in the shelter, to situation is too heart-breaking. Very helpful in our search for a dog! The facility was very clean. I liked how the kennels had glass doors instead of bars. The dogs seemed very well taken care of, as well as the cats. Front desk was very nice and informative. We took a liking to a dog, and were allowed into a smaller outside area to play and get to know her. When we asked if we could take her out and walk her, the volunteer was extremely nice and took us out back to walk her around their track! She said that she noticed us getting close to the dog, so she waited in case we'd like to go. Very sweet of her! We had a wonderful experience here. We spent a Saturday going shelter to shelter, looking at all the dogs and playing with a few. I was disappointed I didn't find that dog that I instantly clicked with and was going to wait and try another weekend to see if we had better luck. My boyfriend thoroughly convinced me to go back Sunday because the previous day we saw a dog that wasn't available yet, that instantly stole my heart the moment I saw her. Hoping and hoping the whole way there she was available, we were so excited to go back and see that she was! (Mind you, we got there at about 11:15 so right after they opened). I was not impressed with this shelter. I will not go back. It is so sad to see some of the cats in cages. The dogs were barking. It has been suggested to have some kind of soothing music to help calm the dogs so it is not so stressful for them. This suggestion falls on deaf ears all the time. I will never donate money or spend my time volunteering for them, I felt so sad for all the animals that are at the Everett Shelter when I left. Only place we could afford.. We took our cat to everett animal shelter for what we were told was simply a euthanasia. Nothing else. He's 12 years old. He's been sick with diarrhea for almost a year and he's yellowish. Forgot how to use litterbox pretty much. He also looks more sunken in. Anyway Nobody specified anything besides if cats are sick they get put down but if it's treatable within reason and not deadly We would get to bring our cat home and figure out the next step there. (My stepmother spoke to them) So we took the cat in. Paid for euthanasia and ashes up front. They didn't ask questions or give us a chance to ask why we were being charged up front. Nothing. They gave us no words just took the cat and left us outside. So we finally got ahold of someone and asked what's next? Will we receive a call if he doesn't need euthanized? How do the ashes work? Ect. We had no answers.. finally They said when you bring an animal in for a euthanasia then you are releasing the animal to the custody of the shelter. They weren't gonna let us say goodbye. Nothing. We all got upset asking wtf. This wasn't what was understood on the phone we thought he'd either be put down or brought home. And the lady had the nerves to say "well he's gonna die anyway..." so super insensitive and rude. So luckily after demanding for a good 30 mins they finally let us at least say goodbye. But still a messed up situation for our old man. So don't use the everett shelter. Use noaa or other places. They're running a scam it feels Iike and if we get our cats ashes how will we ever know they didn't give us random ones. read more

They have a wonderful, very organized volunteer program and the shelter staff really seems to care about the welfare of each animal. Was looking to adopt a dog, we filled out the application to interact with the dog. My family loved him. When getting to the front desk was told we could not adopt this dog, due to having a 5 year old child. The person who serenaded the dog wrote on the paperwork (great with children). I was told that the animals go through a screening process with one of their "experts" and their "expert said no children under 8 year old. When going back and looking at other dog's, none of them are recommended for children under 8 years old. read more

The volunteer that worked with me was really nice, so that's good. But the people at the front desk were really rude when I was adopting a cat, and obviously, the vet they have there is not very good. I adopted a 10 year old cat who I was told was in good health. Wrong. We took him to 2 vets that told us basically he was in poor condition and needed thousands of dollars in care, and a very expensive special diet. So beware, they might not give you accurate information on the animal you are adopting. read more

I volunteer here, and I want to make sure certain judgmental folks out there know what they're actually talking about. No-Kill Shelter? THERE IS NO SUCH THING!!! Ask PAWS, NOAH, or any other so-called "no-kill" shelter what they do when they have too many animals for their capacity, or when an old or ill animal comes to them. They "transfer" to EAS - for euthanasia - so they can say they're no-kill. Animals are euthanized, not "killed", humanely, and with great respect and dignity. The staff and volunteers are the most dedicated group of animal lovers you could possibly find anywhere. Animals aren't given a "death date" - some are there for weeks or months waiting for a good home. And a good, permanent home is the goal. Adopters are screened and applications must meet criteria...As far as overpopulation goes, EAS makes a big impact. All animals are adopted out SPAYED/NEUTERED, REGISTERED, AND MICROCHIPPED!!! Most people don't bother with any or all of those things. And on an intelligent note, wouldn't it be better to adopt from a "kill" shelter anyway? Why would you choose an animal you believe the shelter will just keep around indefinitely, caring for it at their expense, if you could save a life? read more

I went in to adopt a cat. I was looking for a healthy cat whom could play and be slightly active. She misunderstood this and took it as I wouldn't care for a cat if the cat had medical issues. WRONG. I would absolutely care for a cat if it developed medical issues. The front desk told me they didn't think I was ready to adopt a cat because I checked the medical issue box as one of my concerns. Everett animal shelter has some of the nicest volunteers and staff. They work incredibly hard and often time for little thanks. The dogs and cats are cared for and loved. The EAS put on the Shakearoo event which we attended. You can tell they work really hard for these animals. We have adopted from here and will always highly recommend EAS. read more

This place is a little out of the way, I found a stray kitty and wanted to keep her but I figured i was robbing her of finding a good home. So I decided to take her to this shelter since PAWS referred me to this location for my county. The establishment is very inviting, 2 separate entrances for adoptions and drop offs. The staff at the counter were very helpful and were friendly to me and my feline friend. It made it easier to let her go. I hope they take good care of her and that she finds a loving home. I was comfortable enough to donate a small sum to help with costs since most of these shelters are funded through donations. I will take this shelter into account when I'm looking to adopt another pet! read more

We went to the free microchip clinic here and had a horrible experience. First of all, we filled out the paperwork to get out Maine coon mix, female cat Maisy microchipped. One of the people working said she was a boy, and another said that HE is a brown tabby cat which ISNT true. Her base color is gray, then more black and orange than anything. Once we finally made our way to the front of the line, they worked with her for a whole 2 minutes, came back out and said "he's too aggressive, we can't chip him." Like, you're an animal shelter? Shouldn't you work with animals longer than 2 minutes before you just give up? Also, Maisy is the LEAST aggressive cat, she's one of those cats where you can pick her up whenever you want, was letting strangers in line pet her, and she's the sweetest cat ever, we've never had any issues. Loves dogs and cats. I wouldn't recommend bringing your cat here to get microchipped unless you want your animal to be called the wrong gender, breed, and color. This is a late review. I went to this shelter after leaving the Seattle Humane Society last September. I was angry at how I was treated. Their home standards are too high. I am not rich and can't deicate a room for any pet. My yard is not fenced but that has never matterd before. My father suggested going up north. We tried Everett Animal Shelter. Their facility is actually on Smith island near many cement plants. We looked around for about 15 minutes and nothing caught my eye. I saw a lab that groweled and tried to bite the door as we walked past him. I thought he was the worst lab I ever saw. After not settling down on any particular animal, a volunteer came up and told me about the seamingly mean lab. I told him I needed someone good with children. He told me that once he is out of the cage, he is a gentle, calm dog. I didn't believe him but gave the dog a chance. Sure enough the dog was friendly and licking me after 10 seconds. We teased him (Gunnar) a little to make sure he wouldn't snarl. Then we walked him. He was just fine. He is apparently protective of his territory from strangers. He was so nice I decided to take him home. It was time to close, so I had to come back the next day. The next day I brought him home. He was already house trained, cage trained, knows how to shake, sit, lie down and fetch. He swims. He tells you when he is hungry or needs to go outside to pee. When I say tell, I mean he comes up and sticks his head in your lap and whines until you either feed him or take him out. I am soooo happy I went there. This dog means so kuch to me. I hav now had him for 9 months. He isn't perfect, but I love him. I am greatful for the staff and I hope every animal there gets adopted. Thank you. read more

I had two situations with this shelter that make me think the staff is completely, unfathomably rude. One was an attempted adoption of a dog that turned out to be destructive and violent (we were told, as we were walking out with the dog, that it had a tendency to 'nip'). When we returned it, the staff was absolutely rude to us and completely dismissive. The other was when we brought in a stray dog that had serious medical issues. Hair loss from a skin infection, a double ear infection, broken teeth, and overgrown toenails. We had concerns that the dog was in a neglect situation. We even spent $200 at a private vet since we couldn't get to the shelter the night before, since it was closed, and the vet told us the dog needed a lot of work and was very neglected. The shelter vet deemed the dog 'just fine' despite the significant hair loss and its full body rash, and completely yellow and broken teeth. On top of that, the staff gave out our personal phone number to the owner, who harassed us with irate calls because the staff charged him for keeping the dog overnight. Absolutely terrible. Go to a rescue. Go literally anywhere else. This shelter is definitely no good. I regret ever volunteering there. read more

The Everett Animal Shelter program appears to be a class organization. The building is a very nice facility and it looks as if the animals are well cared for. I give the 2 star review due to an unwritten policy that they have in the adoption of dogs. Apparently they will not allow anyone to adopt a dog if you do not intend for the dog to sleep in the house on a regular basis. I have had dogs all of my life, and large working dogs at that. None of these dogs have ever slept in the house on a regular basis. The Everett animal shelter describes all of their dogs as "companion dogs" and as such they claim the dogs should sleep inside in order to be a part of the family. How a dog spending time in the house alone, while everyone else sleeps, will make it any more a part of the family is beyond me. I live in the woods on acreage. My current dog, that I adopted at the Everett animal shelter 8 years ago, sleeps in a garage with a dog door. He has a warm dry area, and a soft bed. He plays a very important role in our family as the night watch dog. His animal instincts help keep coyotes and other predators out of my yard at night which keeps the chickens safe. He also alerts my presence to any stray humans that venture too close which helps keep my family safe. My dog receives the full love and admiration of my family for his service, and provides more value than a "companion" dog ever could. If you want an animal that is free to preserve its animal instincts and roam your yard freely at night, look for another shelter. If you do not have the need for a dog, but rather a furry object in which to shove into your purse, or dress in sweaters, than this is as good an organization as you could hope for. read more

Well, me my self I have had good experiences. Got my first boy Scooby from them, he was in good health and the staff and volunteers were great. Also by boy duke came from them. Now, I myself love american pitbull terriers. Iv been around them my whole life and have two who are very well behaved. But a I know someone who had some bad luck and someone let her APBT out he ended up here and they wanted $1200 dollars to release him (what the hell) she tried but sadly couldn't come up with the money so sadly, wrongly, horribly, and INHUMANELY they put him down and didn't want to let her at least say good by. This is so wrong in so many ways. It's a pitbull its still a dog a living animal that has a heart and loves and was loved for and because of money, money! He was put down. read more

I'm new to owning a cat and was simply asking about ways to provent them from scratching up furniture and ask if declawing was appropriate because I had no clue about it and just for asking the question the front desks lady shut us down and was extremely rude about it. I have a cat now from Noah and didn't declaw her and have scratching posts and all those things even tho according to the lady at the desk "well people who ask about it have already made up their minds they are going to do it"....actually I didn't! Doing the right thing can sometimes get you no where. A said dog was found walking in the middle of the road, so I picked him up. I told my daughter that the right thing to do would be to give the owners a chance to find their dog. So after speaking with someone at the animal shelter they stated from a legal stand point it would be best to surrender the dog to them. When we dropped the dog off we were rushed by the staff because my daughter was crying about surrendered said dog. WE were told after 72 hours that the dog would be on EAS page available for adoption. THIS IS NOT THE CASE. The dog was transferred to a different shelter and was adopted within a DAY. I know that there are a lot of dogs but this particular dog fit very well with my family, including the other animals we have. (Which is one 11 year old dog, who is 3 legged due to cancer and two cats). So I am writing to let the public know that you have a choice to keep the animal that was found. It may be a tougher road, the shelter stated that you actively have to post that the animal was found for 30 days and then there is still a possibility the owner could fight legally to get the dog back. But if you surrender the dog there is absolutely no guarantees that you will be able to adopt the dog, even though some staff members at EAS give you hope that you will . I put that nicely, frankly I believe you will not get the dog back or even be considered as an option. I am upset that no one at the shelter contacted me when he was available and also no one called to say they received my adoption form. I had to call and then be told by Susan that the dog was adopted already. I would personally like to thank Susan for her condescending tone with me on the phone. I feel that she did not honestly care that we had taken the time and thought about if this dog would be part of the family. POOR COMMUNICATION BY THE STAFF, maybe another staff meeting is needed! So yes I am upset and am not looking forward to explaining to my 10 year old that the dog has been adopted!
