Great Library. The kids area is large, with toys and computers. There's a story time on Tuesday and Thursday mornings which get very crowded and loud which makes it hard for the kids to pay attention. However, on Wednesdays there's a volunteer who does a story time with a smaller group of kids (about 3-5 kids). She's awesome! Much more intimate and the kids pay attention, listen to about 5 books and dance & sing as well. Never had any issue with parking coming in the mornings. There's also a playground and tables right next to the library which makes it awesome to just play right after. Also all the staff is amazing! Especially at Information Desk. read more

It's good parking and the hours are GREAT! however if you want to study you cant study because of how LOUD it gets with little kids running around. I would definitely bring my friends here to enjoy the books and the movies. The library aides are very helpful. read more

Nice and new library.... Great place to read and web surf.... Kid's area is nice. Wifi for your laptop, coffee if you need it, too. But the biggest problem is the City of San Jose budget cuts- we can't visit the library on Saturday ( much less Sunday) any more. What's the use of having a great library system if you can't keep the libraries open? read more

This place is as loud as Chuck E. Cheese. Not a good place to read or study. You have kids running around screaming and/or speaking very loudly and their parents or the staff don't seem to care. The study room is really small and fills up fast, so that really isn't an option all the time. It's a shame because the resources here are actually pretty good, you just can't use them with the amount of noise. You're better off at a Starbucks, at least you can get a beverage with their noise. read more

I came here to open a library card on Thursday because I needed to use the computer but decided to open a card so I can come and check out some books and music . The women who helped me out were very helpful, they were nice and they were also patient while I was looking some information I needed upon opening the library card. Once I received my card seconds after, I went off to looking for a book, I came across a computer and I was able to search for books that I was looking for, it made it real easy! I saw that they have a nice Holsteins section with a little maze/ play area. They have nice seats built in by windows so you can have a nice view by the trees, they also have a small cafe area where you can sit quietly or study quietly with more open tables. I would recommend this library the staff are very nice . read more

With an energetic 3.5 year old, fresh out of pre-school, an animated 11:30am storytime session is always a plus at any library. The Evergreen Branch used to an old & forgotten building, with no curb appeal. Now, remodeled and expanded, this old fart is now a breath of fresh air! The library is now a place people WANT to visit. For parents, their children's section has enough room to accommodate 20+ toddlers, and their story time is daily, with interactive games & get-up-stand-up songs. A few times, they hold storytime in their Community Room which is located to the right of the building. I do have to give credit to the lovely lady who leads storytime. She reads well, knows how to handle unruly children, and is very entertaining to watch. My daughter always looks forward to seeing her ;) Much of my rating is based on the quality of the library upgrades & services, but my last star is for the on-site playgrounds. One is for kids ages 2-5 & the other is for 5-12 but both are well designed. Not to mention the durable foam turf is WAAAYYYY better than the old-school tanbark that gives me splinters, yikes! What could be better than having a playground next to the library? Maybe a Starbucks drive-thru across the street? Oh well, I can always dream. read more

Pretty good size library for not being the main library. Has a lot of open rooms to do projects, study, etc. Not quite sure how much studying you can get because it looks a lot of children come here after school and run a muck in here. VERY LOUD, parents need to check their kids. I went in, got what I needed and left. read more

I really like this library. I remember a few years before they remodeled it, it was such a dinky llittle thing surrounded by lots of dirt. And now, it's beauty-fied! They also recently changed the hours - they're closed on more days, but their daily hours are longer. Check their website before you go. There are plenty of seats here, mosly surrounding the fireplace in the back. If you need to study, you can reserve group study rooms beforehand, or study at some of the tables near the fireplace. I need COMPLETE silence when I study, so I always study in the "Quiet Zone" in the back. In this room, there's 8 tables with personal outlets and two comfy chairs facing the "bamboo garden." The noise level here is pretty bad. There are tons of kids that just run around the library laughing, crying, whining, but the librarians seem to be quite passive about that. They have ample selections of books - if you don't find something at this branch, you can always request the book be sent here from another San Jose branch (this takes about 3 days). The cons: I HATE how there's a cafe in this library that serves coffe, fraps, cookies, etc. It's so annoying when they turn on the blender and echos all throughout the library. It's a frickin' library - no drinks/food allowed! Yet, they provide it inside...doesn't make sense. People just leave the cups and cookie crumbs on the table and makes the library a mess. Also, the parking is packed and DANGEROUS! Beware of the crazy drivers that don't care if they run over an elderly person, as long as they get a parking space close to the entrance. Crazy and horrible drivers migrate here. Also, it's entertaining to see the Vietnamese parents hover and engulf the DVD/video area. It's CRAZY! They wait for the librarian to bring in a cart of newly returned DVDs and push and shove for the best Vietnamese videos like lions over a recent kill. I was coincidentally sitting at a couch reading a book in the DVD area, but all I could do was watch this happening in front of my eyes - I think I was staring in amazement for at least an hour..haha. If you need a good laugh, this is the place to be in the library. read more

So I went on a field trip to the library with my daughter who is in Kindergarten today. I must say, I never took the time to really walk around the whole library. I really had no reason to since my children are so young but now that they are getting to be of that age, I started taking them more but we were only confined to the children's section. But after seeing how they have quiet rooms, study rooms, a teen room, an electric fireplace, I am honestly thoroughly impressed! I can imagine myself coming there in the winter with my cup of Starbucks coffee snuggled on a chair in front of their electric fireplace and reading a great book. I still only give 4 stars because of the parking there! read more

Kinda small but broken up into different rooms and sections for those who want to "research" on the internet to those who want a little more quiet. The staff has been pretty helpful and they have a good selection and a pretty simple check-out process. As far as libraries are concerned, it works. The biggest drawback is the tremendous LACK of parking. Once that changes, we'll be lookin at 5 stars my friends! read more

very nice neighborhood library. i take my son there about 3 times a week to do homework. it gets pretty crowded after school hours, so sometimes it's hard to find parking and a table. the self-checkout system is cool, but seems to malfunction a lot. the staff is friendly and always willing to help out. read more

This review is only for people that are considering using this library to study. There is no actual separation between the adult section or the kids section, and the "keep your voices down" rule is not enforced by the staff too well. Lots of children that are running around & jumping which could be very distracting. It's a pretty small library but it's very clean & easy to find your way around. As a library to be used for studying, show up early to get a spot somewhere. read more

Wow, this place has changed since I was little! For the better. But things are confusing for me so if you are like me and have not been in a while, take a few hours to look around. I did look up some books that I did not really want to buy but was willing and actually remembered to stop by, to check them out. They did not have either! Grr. I did get my first audio book so I will be doing that for a couple of weeks. The drop offs outside is tricky but easy enough to get the hang of. read more

Came exactly at 6pm when they close (was stuck in traffic, coming from work) and just had a book on the hold shelf to pick up but a mean lady at the door would not let me check out the book, despite there still being plenty of people in the library. Not cool. read more

Very good library. Free wifi, free parking. Always some space left. Bet I will be here more later.

It gets very loud and noisy and the seats are kind of dirty. I would suggest putting more tables and having the computers for the kids in a different room. read more

This is a decent small community library. However, parking is difficult. Additionally, it can get quite noisy. Some parents seem to use this library as a child care option - pulling up in front, dropping off kids and then driving off. read more

pretty good library, but i consider myself a library connissuer so it get's the A-OK for now. the perks of being a med student? here are some things to keep in mind -it can get REALLY loud with all of the kids, tweens, and teens that frequent the place esp during after school hours -the rooms almost always have a tutor session going on, so don't just plop your things down because you can be kicked out -the quiet room is the best part of the library because it's actually quiet! every desk has an outlet as well -internet is good! -the hours could be better. i wish they stayed open until 8-9 every night. read more

This is kinda dorky of me but I like coming to this library to read the manga comic books. Suprisingly for a small library they carry alot of titles. I like how the books are always neat, in sequence, and in the right section so I don't have to take forever looking for the next issue. Good job volunteers! Fyi you can check the self-serve computers for returned books or place an order if what you're looking for isn't there. This place does get crowded so if you want a fast check-out I recommend coming before 3ish. read more

The Evergreen Library is a GREAT resource for the surrounding community. There is something for everyone....from movie rentals to pop up books and from the elderly to the infant.....I have found that this is the case at most of the San Jose libraries, but what sets this one apart as far as I can tell is that it really does seem to be a meeting place for the community (the new park next door doesn't hurt with this either). There are SOOOO many wonderful events, workshops, etc. that come through this library. Our daughters have enjoyed such EDUCATIONAL activities as building a solar oven and doing experiments about the water cycle, to fun things like magic shows and PRIZES FOR READING (which they LOVED!). Luckily we are within walking distance, as parking can be difficult, so be prepared to circle the parking lot a few times or park at the nearby shopping center and walk a few feet over the bridge.....see you there! read more

This library staff is very unprofessional. The staff seems to be prejudiced on racial issue even at this diverse community. I think that the staff members need better training. read more
