I've never had any kind of musical training before--though I've always been a huge music fan--and I used to think I missed my chance by not starting as a kid. Louise has completely changed that mindset for me and shown me that it's truly never too late. I enjoy every single lesson. She has helped me learn how to actually use my voice, and I've noticed such a difference over time. I love the warm-ups--sometimes my voice feels weak when we start, but after a few exercises I feel strong, comfortable, and ready to sing. No matter what song or genre I choose, she can play it beautifully on the piano and guide me toward the right tone and technique. She has an incredible ear for music and is clearly so talented. I was nervous starting out, but Louise immediately made me feel at ease. It's a complete no-judgment zone. She's incredibly understanding--whether my body feels tired or my throat feels off, she always has thoughtful, helpful advice. She's also very accommodating when I've needed to change appointments, which I really appreciate. What I love most is how fun the lessons are. It truly feels like meeting with a friend. I leave every session feeling confident, energized, and in a great mood for the rest of the day. I'm genuinely excited to see where this journey takes me. My daughter is taking a Saturday class throughout the summer. They do all sorts of things here: Aerial Fabric, Acrobatics, Tumbling, Aerial Hoop, Trapeze, and Juggling I think are most of them. And on our way back down we came to The Little Bear Saloon. A friend of his was in a band playing there that night. There was a $10 cover, which is fine with me, it all goes to the band/bands. We got there at 7:30 and the band started at 7:30 so there wasn't any seating in the main room, where the band was playing (obviously this is common sense but it was how our schedule worked out). Don't worry, we got a booth in the next room and it was still plenty loud. Our server was great, funny, and made sure we had our needs met. The food: ok, it is not great food. My dining companions had burgers and pizza. I opted for a Greek salad as I had eaten an entire dish of pork belly at the Denver Zoo, I'll write that review separately, and I needed something that was not greasy. The salad, it wasn't a traditional Greek salad but I did definitely appreciate it. Since the rest of the menu is rather limited and mostly pizza and burgers, I didn't know if it would be good. I'm kind of picky about lettuce. It was good though and I ate every bite, and also a slice of my daughter's pizza. The food overall was not very special and I wouldn't recommend making a trip here just for the food. But since we hadn't made a special trip here for the food I'm not taking off any points for that! It's a fun environment; the bands, the maximalist decor, the signed photos from so, so many musicians and bands that have played there over the years. Plus nearly every inch of the wood has been carved with the initials or names or messages from customers. I spent some time looking but only scratched the surface (so to speak) of exploring it all. The women's bathroom was a little bizarre, and according to the guys in my group the men's was even stranger. Everything was clean and functional so that was good. We all had a great time. My daughter bought a sweatshirt. On the train back to Omaha the conductor smiled and said "oh, the Little Bear Saloon? That's in Evergreen, right? Oh, I know that place!" He chuckled. I'm going to bet that there are a lot of people who can chuckle at their memories of the Little Bear Saloon.

We wanted to order some appetizers, the waiter said they were out of more than half of the appetizers, so We ordered buffalo burgers and fries. The fries were cold, the burgers were so small and thin, they tasted like they were cooked on a dirty grill, burnt and bland! We complained after everyone agreed that it tasted bad. The waiter was understanding, he took them away, we ordered pizzas instead, the pizzas come out, they lacked any taste.... So disappointed because every time before the food was decent, drinks were good...The Little bear is a well known... well visited place. I sure hope they can figure it out before they lose all their business!!!

I've taken up belly dancing and I LOVE it! I've always wanted to learn how to belly dance, but it's…read moreone of those things that you can't tell just anyone--especially since the uptight and rigid people of the world look at you like you just told them you want to be a stripper or something. I discovered that a friend of mine was a belly dancer and I immediately said, "You must let me go with you!" She recommended Shimmy with Sheikha, so I went to try it out. It's up in Evergreen (off of 285 and N. Turkey Creek Rd.), so I didn't think it would last, especially since I live in Highlands Ranch. Well, let me tell you, all it took was one time and I was hooked! The 30-minute drive is total bliss. Evergreen trees, aspens, wildlife... it's just what this city girl needs once a week. Every Thursday is my "Serenity Now!" day. The music we dance to isn't what you'd think--it's very funky and cool with great beats. Sheila (Sheikha is her stage name) is ah-mazing! She's fun, upbeat and a great instructor. The women who attend her classes are equally awesome--it's all about The Sisterhood. I'm telling you, I've had terrible weeks that are dissolved by attending one of her classes. On Mondays I start the countdown: 4 days until belly dancing... 3 days until belly dancing... When I'm getting cranky, Jeff will ask, "How many days until your class, hon?" My husband can't believe the transformation I've gone through since I've started. I used to be very self-conscious about my body (I mean, c'mon, I live in Highlands Ranch: home of the cosmetic, stick-figured trophy wife and I'm a Mexican with actual curves). Not anymore. Belly dancing gets you in touch with your inner-self and is truly for EVERY body type. I also love that her studio is in the midst of nature and not in a gymnasium.
