I have been a customer of this store for quite some time, and in the last few months, I noticed on three separate occasions that the price tags on the same item were different. I advised them of this issue. I guess nothing was done, because I noticed the same thing a few months later, on two other occasions in this store. Recently, I had purchased my usual items here, and found at home when I looked closely at the receipt, that the price of one of the items had raised about 8 dollars, in just 2 weeks. So I called to ask why the price went up. As usual, the same miserable sounding, somewhat rude employee picked up the phone. I was given so many excuses, and was told if I wanted to speak to the owner, that I could only do so in two weeks, as he was away. The employee advised me I could get a refund, but I was still disappointed. I called the other evergreen location on St. Clair Ave, and was told the same item was 8 dollars cheaper. And I called another health food store, and the same vitamins were 6 dollars cheaper. I really hope that this store is not deliberately over pricing items, and hoping that customers won't notice. Either that, or the person pricing the items is continuously making mistakes, and that is really not good for business. I have been told by other people, that they are noticing the same problems with pricing at this store. Unfortunately, I was sort of going there out of convenience, and didn't bother checking prices elsewhere until now. Right after I called the other St Clair Ave Evergreen location, the same evergreen employee that I spoke to earlier from this location, called me back. She indicated that there was a human error when pricing these vitamins, and that the price was back to the original price, and I could come in to get my money back for the difference. Hmm ok lol. From now on, I will be paying close attention to the prices in this store, and perhaps start checking the prices of these products elsewhere. I would have given 3 stars for this issue, but I took a star off, because of the attitude I received from the employee that I spoke to over the phone, from this location. Also, some of the employees are not particularly helpful at this store, no one asks you if there is anything you need, and I always feel like I'm bothering them by asking questions. On one occasion, I went into this store and this same employee that I spoke to over the phone, was talking incessantly to another employee, while I had to wait to interrupt and ask for help. Would it also kill them to crack a smile every once in awhile, and say "hello" or "have a nice day?." I'm not saying they have to be nice everyday, we all have stuff we are dealing with in life, just every so often be a little helpful. Maybe also crack a joke. C'mon people, stop acting like zombies, live a little lol. read more

I am so upset I am writing this review. I have been a very loyal Evergreen customer for many years. It is likely the grocery/health food store I spend the most at monthly (probable 400$+). I have received great advice and been happy to spend my hard earned money there. Today I went in with my 2 and 5yr old girls. It is always challenging as it is a very small store and the grocery carts provided have no seat for my 2 yr old. I decided after a first failed attempt at going in for our weekly pick up (my 2yr old began running up the aisle next to the shoping cart) that I would bring my umbrella stroller to strap her in and avoid disrupting the store. This meant having all of my purchases in a hand basket. The basket tipped over out my stroller and a jar off mayonnaise broke on the floor. I cleaned it all on my hands and knees with no help from the staff even getting several pieces in my fingers with no concern from them. Now this isn't what I am upset about. I was repeatedly apologetic, my 5 yr old felt terrible and kept apologizing too and when they ran my order thru and I was paying (literally they are running my debit card) they said "we added the cost of an extra jar of mayo on your bill because of the accidentl". "But it was an accident, we cleaned it all up, are you serious!!?" yup. The customers in line spoke up about how disgusted they were. I too am disgusted that they would throw my loyal business out and treat their regulars in such a manner for 5$! I am never returning. There are plenty of natural food stores on our street who have way more respect for their customers! when asked about talking to Nash the owner the response was "you can take it up with him when he returns from Europe...in three weeks". amazing customer service! Oddly enough, they seem to sell another set of creams and lotions I have not seen at Noah's, Whole Foods, the other Evergreens by Bathurst or in Kensington market. I found the awesome, SUPER awesome Maiga cocoa butter for cheaper ($14) for my stretch marks and they have quite a decent selection of other items too, although it is more of a vitamin / toiletries store than for food, even if they do sell milk and other foody things. read more

This store has consistently let me down in terms of its customer service. The owner (he is always there) has an "I couldn't care less about you" attitude every single time I have purchased from him. He will continue doing what he is doing until his task is done before ringing your purchase in, even though he knows you are there, waiting to give him MONEY! There is ZERO Customer service here, he is extremely rude, & I will not be returning. read more

They have a refrigerated section in the back (yogurts, milk, etc), beauty section in the front (lots of toothpastes), essential oils, indian packaged food section, handmade soaps, gluten-free pastas/cereals/snacks (including corn thins from Australia), Better Than Bouillon jars and of course the bulk section (various flours, fresh peanut butter, etc). The staff is friendly and the woman we talked to said she was sure the manager could give us a discount price for buying some stuff in bulk. It's a small store, but has a lot in it. It has more variety than the bulk shop further south on Roncy. And they're open on Sundays (unlike Qi Natural Foods, which is further north on Roncy). It's a bit pricey, but that's often what you pay for organic, gluten-free, etc. It's cheaper than St Lawrence Market though. read more

Owner and staff are extremely knowledgeable about healthy options, supplements and products. Huge range of specialty goods here, all responsible, organic, vegan or veg friendly options available. Generally such kind and welcoming folks, if you come often they will definitely remember and offer a nice warm smile at every return. This place is just a few doors down from the King/Queen/Roncey junction. I like to walk here when I need bulk organic grains etc. The store is nothing fancy, but don't be shy to go in. They have a HUGE selection of frozen fish, and a really good selection of grains, flours, quinoa and nuts. On the wall they have honey etc.. The prices are good and I enjoy going there when I don't feel like walking up to Qi. read more

They have raw/whole spelt and kamut! Nut butters, incense... even vegan cheese, mayonnaise, and whipped cream! Great place!

JF's comments about price ("best in the city") are simply not true. While there may be the occasional loss leader here -- and there are certainly sometimes great deals on stale-dated packaged goods - the prices are mostly city average, and often are significantly more than those at e.g. Essence of Life in Kensington -- especially for vitamins, supplements, etc. Many people I know prefer to shop at the competitor, Qi, having grown weary of Evergreen's owner's sometimes crusty demeanour. read more

I am a daily customer at Evergreen and have always just ignored the staff's attitude (and high prices) because I live so close and love what they carry. However, a few days ago I purchased an item that I found to be 6 months expired! But when I went to return it the owner scoffed at me and remarked "it comes frozen" "it's fine". I have worked in customer service my whole life and not only is 'the customer always right' but the customer is DEFINITELY right when you sell them an expired product. I would stay away from here if you don't want to get sick or treated like you're stupid. They clearly don't check their products or care about their business. read more

I've been going to Evergreen on and off for about two years and but I just had a pretty awkward and unpleasant experience there. I walked in carrying a few bags as I'd been picking up my dry cleaning and shopping at other stores. I walked to the back of the store to take a look at the kimchi as I was looking for a particular brand. They didn't have it (no big deal), so I turned and walked out. As I was leaving the store a man at the counter yelled "can I help you with something?" When I told him no and that I'd been looking for a particular brand. We then proceeded to have an awkward back and forth about what I was looking for that felt like I was being interrogated. The whole thing just felt really weird to the extent that I almost felt as though I should offer to let him look through my bags if he was worried about something. Not a nice feeling. Kim's is just up the street. They're very friendly and helpful. I'll be loyal to them from now on. They also carry the brand that I was looking for. read more

I have lived in the Roncesvalles area for almost 10 years and have never been very impressed with Evergreen staff, who seem rude and indifferent. My experience today was especially astounding. I went into Evergreen to buy some groceries and was bowled over by the rudeness of the owner there. An elderly woman was in front of me in the queue and she dropped some change. She struggled to pick it up and the owner didn't bother helping her, didn't even ask if she was ok. When I was paying for my things he didn't bother saying hello, didn't bother making eye contact with me, and threw my change across the counter at me. There is a much friendlier health food store a 2 minute walk up the street - Qi Natural Foods, which has the same produce, same prices and friendly helpful staff. Goodbye Evergreen, I will never shop at your store again read more

Best prices for vitamins or anything health wise in the city. I was getting taken for a ride at this other place, then luckily found Evergreen. Honest and way less expensive for the same products. read more
