More expensive than you'll find the same products at No Frills or Walmart, but far more obscure vitamins and food products than you'll find at your average grocery store or pharmacy. Better priced then say, The Big Carrot, or smaller health food stores. I have been going to this store for 3 years now. I started buying natural food and other natural personal products around that time and every where else in the City is more expensive. This store is also clean and well-organized. They are friendly people and they were nice enough to let me return and exchange products twice - a duplicate and wrong hair color. There is a language barrier with some of the staff but they quickly get their colleagues involved to get you the right info. Otherwise, the smiles are enough. So I still love this place. However, recently, a lot of the prices have increased significantly. One example is that the Soy Free Earth Balance (vegan butter) cost MORE than at the local (overpriced) Loblaws. All of my vitamins have gone up by at least $2-4 a bottle or more. The Kohinoor pre-made Indian meals are twice the price of what they're charging at the local Metro. I don't want to have to go to large chain grocery stores to get a better price than here. Don't get me wrong, I know that prices go up but I'm seeing more and more products throughout the store that are MORE expensive than at the local Loblaws. : 0 ( I'm here daily and I know my prices (I comparison shop). I also spend A LOT of money here every month, and with no "Good Customer Cards" (you know, the kind where you get a stamp for every $20/50/75/100 that you spend, after the card is full you get $ off/free), I depend on their low prices but for the same price, I can go to Loblaws and accumulate PC points. Or I can go to the health food stores in Kensington Market to get the lower prices. I hope that they will not take advantage of the customers and will still offer fair prices. It would be disappointing to have to switch to a different store. read more

This is my go-to health foods store in the city and I will purposely go out of my way to shop there. They have the widest range of products and selection and 95% of the time they have the best prices too. For example, there is a type of dried seaweed that I like that Whole Foods sells for $9.99 and Herbs & Nutrition carries it for $6.99. There is no reason why Whole Foods should have a $3 markup! I will support local, independent stores, thank you very much. They have a sale section at the front of the store (between the fridges on the left and the cashiers on the right) as well as at the end of the aisles. At the back of the store you will find some bulk bins as well as fresh produce and more refrigerated and frozen items. This store does not have a huge bulk section, but luckily Bulk Barn is not too far away if you are looking for those types of items. Come here for your teas, coffees, spices, organic goods, vegetarian / vegan items, supplements, herbal products, protein bars and more! My favourite thing - they accept American Express - bonus! read more

Yay. A clean, well-organized store with competitive pricing. This place has produce, dried goods, and a bulk foods section. People who work there are nice. This place is on the new side; I imagine in one year from now, the same staff members will naturally provide people with better advice - through osmosis of interacting with so many different shoppers w/ different backgrounds. I had asked one cashier about whether there was any kombucha without caffeine. She assumed all kombucha tea didn't have caffeine, but we discussed this and she then realized something new. I'm used to asking very knowledgeable people at either Tutti Frutti and also at Baldwin Naturals, for Natural Product advice, and they are very able to supply it. This store has a wide layout, as opposed to a narrow one. Plus the floors are clean, and there is neither any sort of off-smell anywhere in the store, nor is there any trace of the moth webs that I've seen over a period of time in the Bulk section of a health store that I shop at regularly in Kensington Market. I'll definitely be coming to this store again, and I'd definitely personally recommend this store to any of my friends. read more

After being a customer for years I don't think I'll be coming back. I tried to exchange a bottle of vitamin D because the dispenser was broken and it was impossible! Yup, they wouldn't help me :( Didn't want a credit or my money back or anything - simply wanted a like for like exchange and even then, they wanted me to fill out a form with my name and phone number, etc... And the guy even dared to say they were doing me a favour?! So rude. Sorry but I'm done. I'll go somewhere else where they appreciate my business. read more

You will find that many items (certain brands) are priced lower here than at other health food stores. Herbs & Nutrition has everything from organic produce and local cheeses to vitamins/supplements and skin care. They will carry practically every "natural" brand that you can think of. This place is so great that I will spend nearly an hour on the subway to shop here. They have some of the best prices in town but that's just for starters. Herbs & Nutrition also boasts incredible customer service (friendly, prompt, and professional), fresh stock/produce, and a neat & tidy store layout. This is the best place for anything eco-friendly and/or organic. The store is fairly big considering how tiny some of these places are, and it isn't just PILLS or VITAMINS.. OH THANK GOODNESS. They have an actual section at the back with organic foods, a decent selection of soy, rice and almond milk, and a great selection of bath/beauty products or even household goods that are bamboo, eco-friendly, etc. I'd come here as my #1 stop for anything organic, green, eco-friendly before I'd go to Whole Foods in Yorkville (way, WAY overpriced). This place opened up recently but I haven't been to it till today. I was on my way to the Big Carrot and remembered this place so I thought I'd stop in and was glad that I did. The store is nice and big with lots of options for dry groceries. They have a big selection of coconut oil, body products, etc., and lots of vitamins and homeopathics if you're into that. Produce section is pretty decent, and though limited in selection, the food is in better shape than some stores. Dairy section is lacking in yoghurt and kefir. I bought the last kefir and they had maybe 2 tubs of one of the flavoured yoghurts left. Line up moves very slowly and when it's busy a cluster of people amass in front of the doorway. Service is friendly and helpful. Prices are pretty decent but a bit on the expensive side. Kettle chips are 2 for $4.99 which is a bit of a sale but not quite as good as in Kensington. This is not a bargain shop but is a much welcome addition to the neighbourhood. Too bad I'm moving out of this 'hood right when this place moved in! read more

Huge, great selection, and the best prices I've seen anywhere. Comparable to the Noah's at Bloor and Spadina, the same items are often dollars cheaper. I loved this store the second it opened in the Annex. Even when I moved away I kept on coming here because the prices and selection is so good. Only thing I wish is they had better hours. What an awesome store!!  I found this place while I was walking around, trying to pass some time before my ultrasound appointment around the corner.  I have since returned a handful of times even though it's not in my neighbourhood, simply because I love this store! It is very clean, organized, and well stocked with a large selection of items.  Prices are reasonable.  But, what really makes this store great is the staff!  During one visit recently, I was exploring vegan cheeses, but was hesitant to purchase because it was so HOT that day.  I didn't think the "cheese" would hold up well in my purse for a few hours in that kind of heat.  The staff immediately offered a small ice-pak to put in the shopping bag with my vegan cheese.  Free of charge!  I promised to bring it back, even though they didn't ask.  How incredibly kind and unexpected!  Now that's GREAT customer service!  I'm going back today :) read more

I'm super frustrated with this place. They undeniably have the best prices and a respectable selection, and they're on my way home from work, but around 80% of the time, the damn alarms go off when I enter the store. The alarm is so sensitive, I've had paper set it off. Literally, the only thing in my bag one time the alarm went off was a printed journal article (with no bar codes). And when I set off the alarm entering the shop, I've got to stand by the door (in everyone's way), waiting for the cashier at the end to be free so that she can de-whatever my bag, and I end up being shoved between customers and hands are grabbing at my purse and then my scarf is tangled in the strap and my headphones get pulled and my phone gets dropped and kicked and there are customers trying to get around us, and then they want me to empty my purse on the counter, and everyone is staring like I'm a criminal and I get frustrated and just leave. This has happened MULTIPLE times. Once, fine. But MULTIPLE times. I would shop there so much more, but I find myself avoiding going in because I'm on my way home from work and I just don't want to deal with this nonsense. Otherwise, I would give this place 5 stars. The only other place in the city I've found that has comparable prices is Essence of Life in Kensington. read more

Huge supply of anything vegan. I was so happy to find vegan kimchi here! They also have a huge selection of teas, vegan protein powder and almost every kind of sugar out there. They also have daiya shelf stable vegan Mac and cheese which is new to me! Everything is incredibly organized and easy to find. The staff are helpful and friendly. They also carry sweets from the earth, and live organic food bar ready made food to go! There's also an extensive selection of body cleansers and moisturizers. read more

Their prices are starting to be more expensive than Kensington Market by more than a few dollars on some items. My big pain with this place is when you want and try to return something, they get rude and defensive and it's a big production at the cash register and multiple employees who don't speak English trying to decipher the computer. They won't return for money, only exchange and even that will not go smoothly. It's things like this, that are a huge turn off when dealing with any business. Also, I had a container in my bag from something I bought a year ago and was using the container for something else and it set off their alarm.. The vitamin isle is very cramped and often crowded. I witnessed an employee with a bad cold blowing her nose over and over and then continue to stock the shelves with vitamins, without washing hands. Touching those bottles afterwards kind of cancels out the point of taking vitamins in the first place. It's a good store, but price wise, it's getting expensive. read more

This place has an incredible selection of natural cosmetics and organic grocery items. It's a really pleasant space to shop in and they play classical music for ambience! I picked up a couple of essential oils here which are difficult to find and they had a very large range of sizes and brands. I'll be coming back here for supplies!! read more

I just love this place. I enjoy going here for the variety of products and Kicking Horse coffee...I find it to be cheaper here than most grocery stores. Although it is usually rammed and difficult to get down an aisle, it sort of makes for an intimate, small town sorta feel. Owners incredibly rude to a customer that has shopped there for years. No sense of customer service or loyalty whatsoever! It's kensington market for me from now on. Essence of Life Organics is ten times better than this dump, only reason I shopped here was that it was close to home, but kensigton market is only a 15 minute walk from my home. Items found to be expired/past due date and still being sold, prices are nothing special, even a tad more expensive than some other well known health stores. read more

Fantastic selection and so, so, so clean! This is my go-to for nice produce and good bulk stuff. I especially like that they have a single use scoop policy for bulk items, with lots of new scoops so you never have to double dip. Love this place!! The selection is good. There are all kinds of things here that I've struggled to find elsewhere for recipes including different kinds of dried chillies, different varieties of quinoa, red rice etc. as with most stores of its ilk it isn't cheap but neither is it as expensive as some of the others. In any case, the selection, warm atmosphere, helpful friendly service and soothing classical music (not to mention proximity to my house) are well worth it. read more

First time in this store and I went based on the reviews from here. The store is fair sized and had different selection of things. I did find their cereal/granola section to not have a lot of choices. Another product I wanted was not in stock. They were professional but when I asked about products all they did was show me where they were as opposed to giving me more information regarding them (which is what I was looking for). I did purchase products from the store. I have had bad experiences before at other Health Food Stores with expiry dates on their products but was happy to see that the expiry dates on their product were quite a long time away. Herbs & Nutrition looks pretty unassuming from the front, but go inside and it's BIG and well stocked with aisles of fresh, packaged and bulk products. You will notice that it's clean and organized with classical music playing pleasantly the background. The prices are great (comparable with and sometimes better than Essence of Life in Kensington) and the checkout service at the front is efficient. Herbs and Nutrition is by far the BEST health food shop I have ever gone to. I go in there every single day and not only are the staff incredibly friendly and SUPER helpful, but they have the best prices. By far. I used to go regularly to another health food store down the street to get certain oils and supplements, but they are at least $10 cheaper at Herbs and Nutrition. Now it's my 'go to'. I like this store, just as clean but I do find that some of their products are more expensive than Qi Naturals such as Dr. Bronner's liquid soap and then some others are the same price or on par like Nature's Path bulk cereal and Nuts to You nut butters. Being a bigger store, they do carry more variety and specialty items like in their refrigerated selection of frozen foods, organic produce, miso, kefir yogurts, cheese, goats milk. They have a bulk section, nuts, dried fruits, sage bundles, cosmetic glass containers, beeswax, sea salt, spices, breads, multigrain crackers, jams, coconut water, coconut oil, whey powder, probiotics, organic baby foods like Earth's Best, organic feminine pads/tampons, cleaning supplies etc. Herbs is not ridiculously pricey compared to the Big Carrot or Noah's, but they have mid way pricing. Take for example, blue corn chips 2.99. Fair price, but you can go to Essence of Life or TF and get them for 2.49 and stock up. But hey, if you're in the area and don't have time to go to Kensington and have the dough, then spend away and live life:) The thing is, I always feel rushed at this store. Sometimes, its an unseen, hurried type of atmosphere even when there's few customers. Either I'm looking at something and I can feel someone looking at me and checking the product i'm reading or someone is always near me or coming at me with their cart like the stock boy. I'm sure he's a nice guy because he does apologize when i'm supposedly in the way. Staff is always stocking at all hours of the day and some customers with their carts annoy me at this location. And it's a hit and miss with the cashiers. Sometimes they're really nice, sometimes others are nonchalant about your purchases. Depends on who you get and who is working at the time. Not my favourite place to shop when its busy, but for the area they have tons of stuff to offer and the convenient location right near the heart of the annex. read more
