I did the beginner classes with Lana Kelley, oh.... a couple years back, I believe. It really upped my game in the macro photography that I am into. She was pleasant, attentive, and never stumped with the slew of questions that students were throwing her way. I'm just a hobbyist dSLR guy, but there were photographers (as in... did this stuff for a living) in this class. She discussed everything you need to know to have a love/love relationship with your expensive camera's. This was GREAT to me, because before her class, it was more of a LOVE/HATE relationship we had... Since her classes, I have kept my Adobe PS/CC/LR (etc...) up to speed, because it's just super convenient. She went over a lot of these basics too, but I think I added that class, a la carte... can't remember. Another neat option she has, for all of her current and ex-students, is that she hosts events where people can get together for photo shoots (they are different, all the time); or meets in-where we can critique our photos, together... Just to get better at what we're aiming for. I love this concept. Any way... I know this review is way overdue, but I've been so busy that I have just now found the time to come up for air. I'm glad to finally understand the power of my camera, and what I can do afterwards with the raw data. Thanks Lana! read more

I went into this class wanting to sharpen my skills at "taking pictures", I learned so much more! In the beginner class packet, I learned more about the camera (that I had stuck on auto mode) and how to utilize it better so that I could take better quality pictures as well as how to edit the pictures to give them a more professional look. Lana has a special talent in teaching this in a way that the concepts are easy to grasp for the photographer that is in early stages of learning or one that has some background knowledge and wants to improve or expand on their skills. She also opens your eyes to the world of photography and its capabilities so that you want to keep learning and practicing. I will be taking more classes, she has opened my eyes. read more

I love to take photos. They are amazing memory makers, and perfect souvenirs. I bought a nice camera a few years ago, but struggled with how to get the best out of it. I took Lana's 3 Beginner Photography class series - and finally learned how to use all of the customization features my camera offers. The classes were detailed, but also easy to understand. I've also taken an Excursion Class - and plan to take many more. The Excursion classes are an amazing way to get assistance in the moment - to give you an even better understanding of how to use your camera settings, and to help you get the most out of your photos. Lana's class was awesome! I am an Interior Designer and I took the Real Estate photography course so I could take better pictures of my work. Not only did I learn how to take great photos, but also learned a lot about my camera and it's settings. She's a fantastic instructor and explains everything so even a beginner like myself could understand and follow with no previous courses. I definitely encourage people to have Photomatix and Lightroom Classic installed on your computer before going to class so you can take advantage of the photo editing portion of this course. I purchased this class through Groupon. Lana did an excellent job explaining the basics of exposure and the different operation modes on cameras. Then she went on to discuss focal length, choice of focusing points, use of the focusing drive, shutter drive, white balance, lens filters, and metering. She explained how to handle tricky lighting situations in order to get consistently good photos. I really enjoyed her live demos of many of the key points. She has obviously thought through how to demystify photo challenges in a way that is both educational and entertaining. read more

Lana provides clear, understandable and patient instruction on how to use and operate your camera, along with guidance and principles of composition so that you can get the best photographs aesthetically as well as technically. She is incredibly knowledgable in all aspects of photography. I signed up for Everyday Photo Class right after I got my new camera. The brochure I had reviewed led me to believe I would be taught how to use my camera as well as beginning photography. I have 5 stars for this Instructor. She really does know everyone's camera. I have learned so much, but am not finished. I am signing up for more classes and excursions with Lana in the near future. She makes me feel comfortable asking questions, and using my camera. With her help, I will be on my way to my goals in no time. read more

Photography is my passion and I finally have the time to learn all the basic functionalities of my Canon 80D. Lana's classes and teaching materials are very well organized. I just finished all 3 beginner classes plus photo editing. Also joined the group for the butterfly excursion at the Houston Museum of Natural Science to have the first taste of macro photography. I have just finished taking three beginner camera classes. Wow!! I have a very complicated Nikon camera and Lana (as good a teacher as you will ever find) explained the functions and how to program them on my camera. She knows everything about the most popular cameras and the extra equipment you might need likes lenses, flash, etc. She is the person that will teach you everything. I have taken the beginner series and done some of the excursions/workshops and loved all of them. I always leave her classes with new knowledge and noticeable improvement. The classes are very straightforward and hands-on. The pace of the courses are fast enough to keep your attention. I know taking up photography scared the hell out of me. Lana's instruction and beginners course made this fear manageable. She is excellent at instruction, her class was very engaging so I didn't fall asleep, and most of all she made the challenge seem attainable. I recently finished the beginner photo series with Lana and it was amazing. She started with the basics but it never felt boring! There was so much to learn and at the end of each lesson she did a demo followed by a recap, so it was easy to retain.
