The instructors are great interacting with the babes and the structure of the class fits perfect for the children. My child has been attending since 6mts, and she is now 2yrs old. Let me start by saying this place is great for families with small children. I think the concept is spot on and the delivery is usually executed well--dependent on the instructor. We went to a few classes and found it a great way for our then 9 month old to see/play with other babies and to learn music. The reason for 3 stars is because we had just enrolled into a session ($$$$) when COVID hit. They initially sent numerous emails telling us the class was on hold. After awhile, we stopped looking for emails and figured our spot would be reserved for when the facility opens again. Nope!! They decided to offer the remainder of the classes online with the caveat that if you wanted to cancel to get your money back, you had to basically do so immediately. Granted it is our fault for missing the email, but as two working parents with a small child we hoped the owner would cut us some slack. We were wrong. I reached out to her toward the end of the summer when I finally saw the email and was met with no attempt to help us rectify the situation. So we lost all that money. Unfortunately this incident has left a lasting effect on us. I don't plan to ever go back and I won't be telling others about this place. I can't recommend a place that won't work with families to provide a solution. As a facility that deals with kids and parents, there should be compassion. read more

Very worthwhile for kids to attend, and they've done as much as they possibly could during the pandemic to give families options (in-person, Zoom, cleaning protocols), in order to balance child development and keeping folks safe. Fundamentally Music offers music class for children ages birth - 4 years old. The classes are 45 minutes long and are offered in sessions of 10-12 weeks. The classes are based on a standard curriculum offered by a company called The Music Class. Class sizes are limited to about 12 kids, and parents are expected to attend and participate. The classes are instructor led, and the kids learn several songs and activities that focus on movement, musical instruments, imagination and repetition. Like most specialty classes for kids, Fundamentally Music offers a trial class so that you can see what it's all about, and also see how your child responds to the format, activities and other kids in the class. My son is two years old, and we've also tried classes at the Motherhood Center and Gymboree. We selected Fundamentally Music because the pace of the class was very quick, so your toddler won't get bored by a long song. There was also high energy in our trial class, and the kids (including ours) seemed to be having a great time. Veronica Sisman is the administrative contact for Fundamentally Music and she is very easy to work with. She helped us register for our trial class, and provided the details for signing up at a prorated price since we would only be attending the last five classes of the session. You can settle your account online, which makes payment quite convenient. Their makeup policies are also pretty straightforward. We gave notice that we would have to miss a class since our son was ill, and we were able to get into a makeup class within the week. As far as the activities in the class, kids are able to have hands-on access to egg shakers, drums, bells, maracas, cymbals, and more, in a coordinated fashion. There is also a segment with rhythm sticks, which I think is my son's favorite part, and a giant parachute, another big hit. The classes are most fun when the parents learn the music and participate and sing as well (instead of making the teacher do all the work). The only negative I have noticed so far is that we're in the last class of the day, and some of the kids are kind of rowdy. I'm not sure whether that's just a unique characteristic of the kids in our class, or whether it's a side effect of being in a late class (long day, hyped up kids). It's nothing major though, and the teacher keeps it all under relative control. All in all, a great way to introduce your child to music, and maybe even learn a little something yourself. NOTE: If you happen to be on a baby-making spree like I am, you'll be happy to know that your child under 9 months is free with their older sibling's paid tuition. read more

We take our son to the heights location and this is by far one of the best things I've ever tried for my son. We have sampled other music classes but Fundamentally Music is superior in every way. Your child is encouraged to run around and do their own thing- this is great for my son who is an active toddler! They recognize that different children learn in different ways and work with it. If your child is shy, they don't try to force anything- if your child is active and loves to explore, they don't force them to sit and listen. The songs are great and catchy. They give you a CD and music book to take with you to enjoy outside of class. The teachers are great with kids and awesome singers. We have Ms. Cat and my son adores her. She has an upbeat personality and makes every class fun and exciting. They use a wide variety of props from instruments to parachutes to large puppets, and of course bubbles! This is by far the cleanest and most kid-friendly music class we have ever tried. They clean the instruments all the time, and make you take off your shoes. They also are happy to schedule makeups so that nobody comes to class sick. This place is awesome and I recommend it to anyone looking for musical enrichment read more

We have been going to Fundamentally Music on Kirby since December. The classes are purchased in 12 week intervals and they are pro-rated if you join in the middle of a session. You get the class materials and a CD with songs for that session when you join. My son is 22 months and has enjoyed it. I'm wondering if it is our class (second to last on Thursdays) that tires the teacher out in time for Connie's class! We are very rowdy. The teaching styles of the different teachers are varied so try a few before you sign up for a whole session since it is kind of expensive. Overall I think it is a good experience for him but I think we are going to try Gymboree or Little Gym and skip this next session for something new. I'm sure we'll be back! read more

Our son has been coming to music class at Fundamentally Music since my son was six months old. In two months he has really flourished, both from being around other children (he is either at home with me or a nanny) and from the class itself. I have been in Miss Lizzie, Miss Kay, and Miss Katlyn's classes at this location, and all of them are great. I like that they give a lot of explanation about what they are doing and the developmental benefits, They separate anything the infant class uses (like shakers, scarves, and the parachute) from the older class and wash things after every use. That's really great that they take that precaution. My son has a great time each week and I love interacting with kids close in age and their caregivers. You also get a music book and CD so you can sing the songs at home. A lot of parents in our class have had siblings enrolled or have enrolled their child in other sessions, so many people like it and keep coming back. A parent in our class recently had their child's first birthday party here and had great things to say. I would recommend calling and coming to a free trial class, especially if your child is under six months old, to see if it is right for you and your baby is old enough to enjoy themselves (my son probably wouldn't have benefitted from it at 4 months old). But the infant music class has been great for both of us and I highly recommend it! read more

I am a fan of this class. I would recommend this to anyone who would like to enhance their child's brain with music (extremely important for math and confidence later). We have signed up our child for 4 different sessions. The music is unique and fun. Each student is given a CD with all the music on it and a book of the sheet music which includes the words so that you can practice at home and listen to the songs in the car. The class is from 4M to 4YR, although we started going when he was 1. Cons: 1. The enjoyment and engagement of the class is completely teacher dependent. Some teachers are just better with kids than others, so I think it is unfortunate if you end up with a low energy teacher that expects your child to follow blindly without any encouragement. So I would recommend going to several time slots to meet the teachers if you have the time. We were stuck with some , well lack of a better word, boring teachers who just had no idea how kids think! 2. Secondly, the majority of classes are for kids 4m to 4yr (they have a few infant only time slots). Therefore a four year could be in a class with a 4month baby. The music abilities of that age range are quite varied. I find that the techniques can bore older kids. Our child is turning 3 soon, I don't think we will do another session. Also, with little kids who cannot even sit on their own and others who are able to turn somersaults, it can be dangerous. I think it really restricts the freedom of musical expression if toddlers have to be mindful of tripping over the babies and its not fair to the babies who could potentially get trampled. A better format would be to offer a age-appropriate class schedule so that kids of all ages could both enjoy and be challenged by the class. 3. Finally, the price. Its a bit high for a 45min class that turn out to be a little more than $20 a session. It is really a $15 dollar value for me. And on more than one occasion I have had teachers end up to 10min early or start 5-10 min late without making up the time, which I found annoying. Overall, I would absolutely recommend this for any parent. I just wanted to add some constructive criticism from my point of view. Our child has blossomed musically. He looks forward to the class. I have been taking my granddaughter to Fundamentally Music since she was 16 months old and she is in her second set of sessions now at age 20 months. We love it! She also attends another music class offered elsewhere and though she enjoys both, she obviously prefers FM and learns more from it. She has had two different teachers on two different days and both have been wonderful, friendly and encouraging. On the way to class in the car, she sings some of the songs; she sings them at home, too. Two unexpected benefits she learned from class are sharing and cleaning up. When the instruments are brought out, the children are encouraged to take sets to their mothers or whoever brought them and then when it is time to put them away, the children happily do it themselves. I highly recommend Fundamentally Music to everyone and advise that when you participate, you participate fully for the benefit of the child - in other words, don't go to visit with friends or talk to other adults.
