I came into the store on Tuesday, July 13 in the afternoon to do some summer trip shopping. Immediately upon entrance I am followed (check the cameras!) incessantly by one employee, while other employees quite literally ignore me. One even bumped into me without apology or greeting. Nancy was the first employee to make eye-contact and ask me if I needed any help (I did, I had an armful of clothes I wanted to try on). At some point during my time in the dressing room, Nancy went to take a break. The person who took over for her (brown haired in a paisley red dress wearing boots, turquoise nail polish, who also happened to be the person who bumped into me without acknowledgement-- CHECK THE CAMERAS) was nasty and rude with me-- even after I made it clear that my intention was to buy items (do other customers have to do this to receive good customer service?). I came out of a the dressing room asking for help with sizes (since my call for help from my dressing room was ignored). As I am asking for help from this new person (who does not introduce herself or respond to me when I ask her name), she wrinkles her nose at me, proceeds to CUT ME OFF as I'm talking to help another customer who just showed up to the dressing room. I was literally mid-sentence. No, "could you hold on for one second" or anything from her. She proceeds to help several other customers (no problem at all!! Things get busy. Maybe just let ME know, as I was the one you were helping first!). FINALLY, she come back to me and asks me - quite rudely- if I "actually" plan to buy anything. I'm confused by this, as I started our initial dialogue with "I'm planning to buy all of these items. I would like to check sizes in these items or see if they're in another store for purchase," but no problem things are busy. But also, is it appropriate for a sales associate to ask a customer that? At some point, one of the garments I'm planning to purchase slips to the ground. I'm standing right next to the associate, who makes no attempt to help me. She literally stands and stares at the garment on the ground. I'm baffled by this. I have to ask her, "can you please help me? Do you mind grabbing that please?" In an incredibly dismissive tone she says, "Oh, sure. I guess." I ask this associate if she would be comfortable with me laying out my "definitely purchase" items on the empty clothes rack while she communicates with another associate about the items I'd like sizes on. She grants me her permission. Another customer she helped earlier comes over and physically removes my clothing (some even falling to the ground) to place her rejects on the rack. The associate sees this but says nothing, and again does not offer to help me pick up the items. Many people are passing through the narrow dressing room entrance space. The associate is protected from this because of a small enclave for employees down there. A customer pushed me and I stumbled into this enclave (no apology from this other customer...different from the customer who threw my clothes on the ground). The associate looked at me in complete disgust and said "you need to back up." I'm mortified, and apologize profusely. I didn't mean to make her uncomfortable by any means, but also I had just been physically pushed by another customer into her space? The level of aggression I received as a masked (and vaccinated customer--though she didn't know that) was extremely alienating (on top of an already alienating experience). Finally, I received confirmation that the sizes I was looking for were not available. No problem. I take the pile of clothes I am planning to buy upstairs. I'm greeted by Emma who seemed very nice. She took my clothes to the register so that I could look around one more time before finalizing my purchase. I found a pair of super cute sunglasses and was ready to check out. When passing the shoe rack, I saw some shoes I was interested in and asked if I could see them. Emma went to grab them. I do not know the name of the woman who checked me out, she was a blonde woman wearing a white tank top with yellow overalls (shorts) rolled down to her hips. This woman was also dismissive of me (even though I was getting ready to check out!). She did call down to Emma about the shoes, which is helpful, but also a part of her job. After she rings up my items, I see that the sunglasses I picked out were likely not ringed up. I asked her if she rang them up and in surprise she said "Oh, no I didn't! I'll do that now" (it genuinely felt like she was trying to test me to see if I would take the glasses without paying for them). Wednesday, July 23, 2025. 3:00pm…read more It's so uncomfortable when you're trying to shop in-person after seeing a few cute tops & dresses on their social media, but at every turn, every item you touch or pick up and put down, every new section of the store that you enter; there's a salesperson or security staff quickly darting through or running over to "arrange items" so you know "you're being watched and won't supposedly shoplift." You look around helplessly at other single female shoppers, small families of tourists, couples, and wonder if they're getting the same secret service VIP hawk-eye treatment. The last straw was at the end of shopping (after I tried on the $130 dress, which was upsized too large), I'm looking at the $125 Gola Sneakers (a European father & daughter sitting on a bench unbothered in the middle of the shoe section), and a sales associate darts over carrying 2 pairs of pants and pretends to "arrange" the shoes in front of me on the wall. I stopped and stare at her in disbelief until she's done. She walks away. As I make my way to the exit into Chelsea Market, I see the associate at the front table press on her earpiece. I pass by her and told her how uncomfortable it was being followed around & observed. It makes me want to shop online, if I do want to support the store. She looked at me without hesitation, like she knew I was nearby, asked me to clarify, and did say sorry. I didn't get a chance to mention the fitting room associate using an ethnic Italian accent when helping me look up a size online. Another associate quickly ran into the dressing room and turned off the "Italian" associate's ear piece mic saying that "her channel was on & she was wondering "who was that voice ?!" They both weren't at their posts when I came back out. This is my 3rd time in the store with this surveillance experience. I purposefully went in today - with full make-up and a work outfit, to see if it would be different than my weekend casual, shopping totes outfit. During the last time, the store was very quiet at the end of a winter Sunday. After EVERY time I touched anything, the different associates & black suited security guard counted the number of items (ie. 8 red dresses hangers). I even watched from outside, the front entrance associate go over and count the french-themed sweaters that I looked at. Just wow, profile much? Had a similar experience at their Rockefeller Center location when I used to work in Midtown.

I just kept finding women's suits that make me look square and unfeminine, or that were designed for women with a larger cup size than I, longer shoulder to waist measurements, and straighter hips than I. Jamak was very kind and thoughtful listening to the type of clothes I prefer to wear and my body shape. The suit came in as planned. The pants didn't fit (my fault). I called Jamak to freak out because I needed the suit "right now!" She was very patient and described how a different size would be best and assured me that the fit would be a good match for my shape. There was a snafu on the next shipment but Jamak refunded the snafu amount without question. The suit DID fit perfectly. I really like the way the material lays, it isn't stiff or shiny or wrinkly. The cut does fit my shape very well and I will wear this suit often. The price was quite expensive but that is the cost of Made in the USA.
