Count on Mom's for affordable Chinese food…read more Mom's Pan-Fried Bun in Newmarket offers great value, and is often packed during mealtime with families. This is one of 7 locations now across the GTA. While pan-fried buns & soup dumplings are on the menu, noodles are our go-to here. Their menu also features burgers, fried chicken wings and apps such as scallion pancakes and desserts including pumpkin pie with red bean filling. The soy milk is light and refreshing. The tomato-based noodle soup is rich and slightly tangy. We like that it's always served piping hot and comes with a crispy pork cutlet. The cutlet does soften quick while soaking up the soup. You can also pick between their braised beef noodle soup or their house beef noodle soup with tripe, beef rolls & a smaller pork cutlet for $10.99. It's light but you can jazz it up with their aromatic hot sauce that isn't very spicy. Hand-pulled noodles are thick & bouncy while the bowl portions are a fair size. Their burgers are surprisingly tasty with Asian seasoned beef patty, onion crisp and a slab of processed cheese. The restaurant interior is brightly lit with many promo signages and fits a decent number of tables to accommodate close to 40 guests. Just like their busy downtown location, you can see the action in the back kitchen where the noodles and buns are being steamed and fried. This place accepts credit card and there is no cash discount. Service is quick and friendly for casual dining, promptly serving and clearing your dishes. Skip it or hit it? It's a good meal spot to hit up if you're looking for affordable noodles & bites.

Honey black pepper wings were pretty good: crispy, fresh & juicy. The sauce was sparse & not evenly applied, though. Honey cheese wings were pretty good. The taste was less cloying than Korean cheese powder. There seemed to be no honey though. Scallion pancake was pretty good: slightly dry but flavourful. Fresh pork pan fried buns were good: fluffy yet crispy. Mom's beef burger was not big. The patty was a bit dry. The bun was tasty & fluffy. The honey mustard was pretty nice & there were crispy strips. It was decent & cheap. Tomato noodle with pork chop was decent. The other dishes are better. Red bean pumpkin pie was decent: quite crispy. Rice cake with brown sugar was decent. Sweet soy milk was pretty good but quite sweet.

Came here with a large group of mom's for a mom's night out and we had a fabulous time! Our server,…read moreyoung guy with a mullet, was amazing, made sure we were all taken care of and dealt with a group with so much ease and professionalism. I ordered a peach/ginger drink and it was strong but really tasty, highly recommend! A few non-drinking ladies were given great recommendations for virgin cocktails! The food was also really good, most people got burgers which looked really good. I got the duck pizza which was really tasty but the crust could use work, it was a bit too crunchy and flat, I'm not sure what style I would call it but I prefer either a lightly crisp crust with a chewy bite or a fluffy crust, this was neither. I am a bit snobby when it comes to pizza so I'm definitely particular but the toppings were really unique and tasted yummy! Next time I'll go for a burger for sure. The service was excellent, I had made special arrangements to bring in a group of 16 people, and, being moms to young babies, some of us showed up later/earlier, some left earlier/later and we all had separate bills, so I know it wasn't the easiest to manage but our server honestly nailed it. We all had our drinks done perfectly, food came out all at the same time, nothing was missed, and he was soo genuine and friendly. We really had such a nice time! Thanks so much HBH for making our night out so fun!!

Bathrooms stink but that's because the building is probably 200 years old. Beer is ok.read more

They get 3.5 stars. Crispy vegetarian goose roll was decent & not drenched in sauce like at other places here so it was slightly crispy on the outside though the inside wasn't. Fried Rice Noodle with bbq pork (they were out of normal pork): scrambled egg sauce was unusually eggy. There was a nice smoky flavour & the noodles were slightly fried. The toppings were simple with only egg, pork & green onion. Egg bean curd and gluten in sa cha sauce on sizzling hot plate was not on a sizzling plate. It tasted decent with a very slight off-spicy flavour from the shacha sauce. I didn't notice any gluten. There was pineapple, red pepper, green pepper & shallots in the sauce. The interior of the tofu was pretty smooth but the exterior was quite rough. Complimentary red bean soup dessert was decent.

They slightly increased the price and changed the menu for the combo sets which is fine in this inflationary environment however did anyone also notice that they exclude the rice from the combo sets too? I made a take out order of the combo set and went in to pick up (which they were late and it's not even half full in the restaurant on a Sat night). After paying, I waited for my order. And when the order was almost ready, suddenly a staff told me, rice is no longer included in the combo sets, and asked if I want to order rice. I was like wtf I have never heard of Chinese combo sets that exclude rice and more importantly shouldn't they ask me earlier if I want to pay extra for the rice when I placed my order? So while the food here isn't bad with quite a lot of different options, such experience made me wonder how honest they are when they run this restaurant. Probably wouldn't go again. On the food itself: - salt and pepper deep fried fish was on the combo sets before but not anymore and that's the dish I liked the first time. Flaky bite size fish fillet that can satisfy your desire for deep fried food. - gai lan satay beef. No satay taste at all. - sweet and sour pork, pretty good with fresh pineapple and not too too thick batter. - curry, like the taste of it, and the beef brisket was tender but prefer some more other veggies such as bell peppers and carrots. - bitter melon with pork ribs. Bitter melon too thick so it's slightly on the bitter side. - beef with mushroom and onions. Not enough wok hey.
