I haven't been to either yet. Why not do a quick jaunt up to Newmarket to see what the hype is all about? I ordered these items: - Scallion pancakes - Pan-fried pork dumplings (8) - Chive pork dumplings (8) - Mom's special steamed pork soup dumplings (6) I paid through the app and got an estimated pickup time. I took my time driving over to this eatery. When I got to this plaza, I realized that I was here several years ago. The Tim Hortons still anchors it. I don't recall any of the other businesses. I parked fairly close to the restaurant. I then walked into the eatery. I saw a few customers enjoying their food. I'd like to return and sit down for a meal. It looked comfortable. A nice man at the counter said hi to me in Mandarin. I don't speak it, so I ended up letting him know what my Fantuan order was. He nodded and handed over my bag containing my food. He hoped that I'd enjoy my food. I thanked him and headed to my car. I put my food in an insulated bag and drove home. My food was still hot when I got home. I went to town eating dinner. The scallion pancakes were crispy and yummy. They were different from the chewy version that you'd expect. I loved them. The pan-fried pork dumplings were excellent. The filling was tasty. The pan-fried sear at the bottom of each dumpling was perfect and added more flavour. Delicious! I loved the chive dumplings. Chives are so good with pork filling. These dumplings were comforting and yummy. The soup dumplings were also amazing. Each one had the perfect amount of soup. The soup had the right amount of salt. The filling was juicy. On a snowy, slushy late afternoon, I blindly (and slowly) drove my way aimlessly to Aurora. I remember some Asian restaurant getting rave reviews up in Aurora and that being Noodle Max (maybe it wasn't so aimless). If you are someone who believes in destiny, I can tell you destiny will occasionally give you sxxxxy things. Noodle Max would be one of them. Noodle Max's main offerings are Lan Zhou style noodles and was it ever an unauthentic and underwhelming experience. I wouldn't go as far to say the soup was tasteless like water, but it's pretty bland. While the soup for Lan Zhou noodles are not generally crazy strong in flavour, it should still have the taste of spices. The beef slices were also pretty tame in flavour. They were ok. The main plus about their noodle was the portion; quite big. The noodle had better texture than most store bought noodles, but it did not have the proper floury taste and the limited flavours from the soup was not able to hang onto the noodles. Aurora used to be a black hole in terms of dining options, but not anymore. How Noodle Max continued to garner such a high Yelp and Google rating befuddles me.

This made eating the dish a little challenging, with the 8 petit wontons on top, then a layer of box choy, and then I get to the noodles. My next surprise was the rice noodles instead of egg noodles. I don't think I have ever had this dish anywhere on rice noodles. I figured out why: rice noodles need a flavourful broth, like in Pho, but this broth was pretty weak. I stopped halfway through the container. I suspect this place will be a nice alternative to nearby Swiss Chalet and Harvey's, especially if you like the hot table Chinese food like they serve in the mall food court. I'll have to try again with a different dish to see if I can raise the rating. In the meantime, there are some choice authentic Chinese restaurants in the area for me.
