Evil Intentions has now moved to a new location called Forsaken Hollow. The haunt has moved from the old Elgin casket company into this new farmland location in Maple Park. I for sure miss the original location in the casket company, there was just something about the building that felt more "evil", and it made you feel additionally uneasy going in (the old location is supposed to be actually haunted). Evil Intentions in its new home is still an excellent haunt. I believe we were in the haunt for about 30-40 minutes when it was our turn. The haunt begins outside in a corn maze, which was actually really cool and creepy- you feel like someone is watching you in every part of it. After you find your way out of the corn maze, you enter the indoor part of the haunted house. Great effects/performers and design inside. I would recommend a visit to Evil Intentions and keeping an eye on their multi-year project in the location "Forsaken Hollow", it sounds really fun - a Halloween themed bar, coffee shop, a diagon alley type town square (for those of you that have been to Universal Studios) and more. read more

My family went to the previous location and really enjoyed it; this year I joined in. I have no previous experience at the other location. We bought VIP tickets (typical price for VIP at most locations) to skip the line. The line went quick too. I really liked how they broke up the line with the maze. However, the maze was lacking--it seemed like they were either missing scare actors or they simply did not have enough. The haunted house itself was really well put together aesthetically and the makeup/costumes of the actors were great. Once again though, it seemed like there were more mannequins than actors. This haunted house is more creepy vs scary. A lot of the girl actors stayed in my face for far too long , to the point I had to stop walking and my husband stayed behind with me as my group moved along. There is only so many seconds being in someone's face and in their way is acceptable. It became more annoyance than scary. Overall, if I hadn't been in the area I wouldn't make the trip this year, but I think this place has huge potential for following seasons. read more

I'm pretty picky about haunted houses and went to the this one the last few years in Elgin very disappointed. This is my first year going to it since they moved and I was blown away by the entire set up. The Corn maze leading up to the house was amazing. Loved this haunted house! We went last Friday with a few friends and had purchased tickets ahead of time - the lines weren't too bad probably waited about 20 minutes to get in. The haunted house itself took about 30-40 minutes to walk through which is longer than some of the others we had gone too. Each section was done so well and they did great with the jump scares. This continues to be my favorite haunted house every year. First, everyone who works there is great and seems really excited to talk about the place and its history. I love that it is an actual historic building and casket company. Because of the unique building and being a permanent location they've been able to build things over the years that become a permanent part of the house. Yet each year they find a new way to add more or put a twist on it so even if you've seen it before it still gets you. Their uniquely shaped maze section is the best part of the haunt for me, and this year they changed up the lighting in the most effective way that even tho I had experienced it I was completely freaked out! I have always gone on a weeknight and it's very easy to get in and you're not rushed through. This year we went on a Saturday and that was a totally different story. Packed. We waited 2 hours past our ticket time and didn't get in and just left. I emailed them to ask if I could switch my tickets to the next Thursday and they immediately replied and made it right. Truly great people. The only way I could love this haunt more is if they let us do a lights on tour in the off season!! They also sell some merch, and I would love more Elgin casket company merch. Very disappointing!! I'd been hearing for years about Evil Intentions. Finally made it this year. I paid for the VIP passes which would have been well worth it had the experience been better. As we showed our wrist bands, they said, "you just avoided a 2.5 hour wait." The corn maze leading up to the house was cool, but in my opinion, could have been way better. It seemed as if staffing may have been an issue both outside and inside. There were a couple of theatrical rooms that looked cool. However, very few. Most areas had an abundance of maniquins with only one actor, if any. Most actors were in plain sight and just got in your face. Very little hiding and jump scare tactics. At one point, seemed as if we walked forever through a man made "tunnel". Perfect opportunity to bang on walls or scare someone. NOTHING!! I beleive this place has great potential but just didn't hit this year. read more

It was fun until my group got pulled aside and screamed at by angry management. Got there at 7 exactly and waited about an hour 1/2 to get in. Maze entrance was cool, and probably the one really scary part. But what really unsettled me and completely ruined the rest of the show was when my group of 4 was pulled outside and accused of touching the actors, we we had our hands in our pockets from how freezing cold it was the entire time. I tried explaining that we never touched anyone and the guy screamed in our faces that it was reported twice we did and if it had happened again we'd be kicked out. I actually had an actor slide into me and say oh shit,and multiple too close that they were brushing past me. Really is upsetting we had to leave with a bad experience and be falsely accused as we spent over $130. read more

Went back after a few years and wow! They've changed so much since the last time I was there. The beginning experience really gets you into the mood for a haunted house. I rarely am one to jump, and they got me to jump 2 times, so I was super happy about that. Well staffed, multiple levels of the haunt. Very short wait, but it was opening night! I think I've hit every major and many minor haunted houses in the past 25 years. It truly has never been about size or even budget, but creativity, bang-for-buck, and actor enthusiasm. As the season of spook nears, the lines grow. This place is no exception. I think everyone knows that fast passes and vip passes are a shorter or no wait. Lets talk about general admission today. Evil Intentions opens at 7:30pm. The complimentary parking was already filled by 745. We made it into the line around 8pm. The line is known to form around the ol casket company. We entered the actual haunted house around 10. Outside, a cool wind was prevalent. Rob Zombie blasted throughout. Inside, red lights flickered and creepy, dramatic music was on max volume. What sometimes makes a decent haunt are the gouls that entertain you while you wait. This place has it's decent share of spark-emitting, baseball bat thrashing actors, both outdoors and indoors. The line inside is quite long but, in my opinion, for the best reason when it comes to haunted houses (I'll explain later). All in all, we waited almost 2 hours. Here is the reason I didnt mind the wait. I've been through many haunted houses that give you that "move along" vibe where everyone is basically in a line. I tend to stop and enjoy the acting and the ambiance. Cheaper line style haunts ruin the fun because one can see someone getting surprised by an actor ahead ...then you watch the same actor reset his position to scare you...and then there is no surprise. By making you wait allowing you to enter in your preferred group, you experience the place without either stalling behind slow groups or being told to keep moving by the fearful herd behind you. I'll give props for the actual building and many of the actors. Memorable rooms were the church, school, foggy roar metal, talkative sisters, and the disgusting dinner table room. The scare factor was medium. Scariest parts were not the entertaining rooms, but the glimpses of psychotic silhouettes at the end of hallways between the strobe flashes that charge toward you, those are my fav. Higher stars for the acting effort. Also a good ticket price to lengh of experience ratio (less costly than other larger haunts yet long enough to get your money's worth = good value). I have seen better props, scenes, and more creative scare tactics. Also, the ending is abrupt and confusing. You will realize that it is over when you go down the stairs and see them selling dat merch. 4 stars because I may have grown a little desensitized through the years, but overall a good evening out to get in the Halloween mood. read more

First time & it jumped to my top on my list. It used to be rob zombie's now it's definitely this one. I loved how there were no zombies but actual horror scenes! I was excited to find that a few haunted houses are able to open during COVID and it sort of makes sense - the majority of attractions are in the 'burbs, in the middle of nowhere with giant parking spaces, so social distancing is pretty achievable, especially with how much time is spent outside. This was my first stop of the season and the tickets were $35. I won't even bother with a haunted house that's under $30 since that means it's for kids, so this was square in the middle between too cheap to be good, and expensive enough to be really, really good. The line went quickly (it wasn't busy, but we did go very early in the season). They did practice social distancing for groups, and all the staff and actors were wearing gloves and masks. There were a couple of cool features going in; the groups are put in standing "coffins" before ending the house. The coffins fit groups of either 2 or 3 max, so if you have a larger group, you'll be temporarily separated, but only for like 5 minutes. The idea of the coffin was fantastic, but it was a bit of a missed opportunity. Besides a little banging on the outside, we just stood in the dark and then they let us out the other side. There are so many things they could have done to make that single experience scarier! Overall, I'd say it was a decent experience but not much was very memorable and it wasn't as scary as I'd hoped. I usually let out a half dozen blood curdling screams at a given haunted house, and I just said "oh fuck" a single time, with a tiny yelp... It may be that the actors are not quite into their roles, since the season just started, but I wasn't impressed. If you aren't an avid haunted house visitor or you're going for the first time and a little nervous, this would be a good option. If you want to pee your pants in terror, this one is not for you. I think teenagers or pre-teens would love it though. read more

Never ended up entering the haunted house because the VIP Fast pass purchased from Groupon did nothing to expedite the obnoxiously two long lines and 2 hr wait. We left after waiting a long boring hour. Received no assistance from workers, well at least the one kid managing the line. Couldn't find anyone else or even a ticket counter. We were told we had to wait when I mentioned our VIP tix. That's just bs. Only saw 2 characters outside. No one acting in front of lines to entertain you. Total drag... Very poorly organized and managed. In fact the group of 4 in front of us ended up leaving also after we heard another hour wait. 2 long lines wrapped around the building. Incredibly long wait. Got in line at 7:15 and didn't actually enter the house until almost 8:50. It was super duper annoying but there were all sorts of actors climbing the walls, breathing down your neck, interacting with you the whole time so it made it not so awful. When we finally did enter the house, it was TOO much fun. The church scene with the monks was incredibly eerie and I had a guy chasing and tormenting me with a meat hook...I'm a huge fan of basement of the dead but this one was just as good - and NO animatronics...that's the best part of this. It is worth the $11 per person for a group of 6 groupon deal! I think you should NOT buy the VIP pass so you can actually wait in line. They keep you entertained while you wait by having scary people sneak up on you. It also gives you the chance to socialize with your friends! and they a mini fireball show. As for the haunted house itself, it will not be as scary if you are in the back of the group. My friend and I were super scared and we pushed the others in front and followed them the entire time. again, if you want to get scared, you have to be the first two people in the group. if you're in the back of the group, it's somewhat scary but you won't have a heart attack. my favorite part actually was waiting in line and socializing with friends and watching my friends freak out when the chain saw guys scared them! NOTE: I do not think it's worth it for their normal $25 for one price, because the haunted house won't make you pee your pants. I would defiantly go for the groupon. Also, the parking lot was full when we went and had to park by a nearby side street. But it was no biggie, because it was only a minute walk. We had received a Groupon to give this place a try - it was well worth it! There is a fair amount of entertainment while waiting in line, the wait area is cleverly thought out so a scare or two does occur while waiting to enter. You are waiting the whole time in a sheltered area so there is no exposure to the outside elements of rain, wind or cold. The walk through takes a fair amount of time and justifies the wait beforehand. Costumes and characters are well thought out and will give you a good scare when you're not expecting it! The best part, just when you think it's over... You're actually only halfway through. Some words of caution- carefully walk through. Some areas can be dark and you should feel around before walking into a wall. Watch your head for areas of low clearance. All in all, it's a wonderful experience! Pretty decent length. Not too terrible of a wait, even when they're busy you're probably looking at about an hour, or a half hour if you're there early or on a "dead" night (Har. Har.). The line is inside, which is a plus on a chilly October night! I would say it is worth the $25 to get in, but much better if you get a groupon for sure (BOGO woooot)! This was my second year going here and, although some of the characters and attractions are the same, they were nonetheless quite entertaining. I really have to hand it to them, the characters are very well played and I can't honestly say I've seen any of them break character. I particularly enjoy the characters who interact with the crowd during the wait. I love how you're interacting with characters and thrills from the time you approach the eerily-lit hearse in front, to the very end where you might be chased to your car by an axe murderer (or other murderer of some sort...it IS Elgin...) And all throughout, the characters are varied and well-played. I appreciate the fact that there is very little "down" time, the scares are well timed, giving just enough anticipation where you never feel like you're just walking around an abandoned building. It seemed like people either loves or hate this place. I was happy that this year the wait was all inside. They had some actors trying to scare you while you were waiting in line which was cool too. Definitely helped pass the time. This was a pretty long haunted house. But they needed to space people out better. It seemed to bottle neck in the middle and then we had to wait. They did a very good job handling COVID, with all actors and patrons wearing masks, but unfortunately there were less actors than expected due to COVID. However, the actors did a good job, even with a group close on our tail and trying to scare everyone in front of and behind us in a timely fashion. Props and scenes were exceptional and the best part of the haunted house. The staff were very nice and helpful. While the staff did a great job social distancing themselves, they could have done a better job and putting distance each group when the groups were not handling this themselves. My first ever haunted house, and I will be for sure coming back next year. It was SO damn scary but also so well done! I won't spoil anything but the actors are so good and it was fun to interact with them as you went along. The set ups were SO freaking cool and the actors were good at guiding you (it was a little confusing to get around haha) while also being scary. They are also really good at enforcing COVID rules - when you stand in line outside there are security people standing around and if someone is not standing at the marker or their mask is off they will come and tell them to knock it off. I got there a bit too early and the staff were so helpful at guiding us and telling us where to go! Kudos to everyone because this place was fantastic. Definitely worth the price and more. read more

This haunt is really intricately done. The props and costumes were badass. The building is super cool and actually haunted too! We got a cool ghost story from a worker on the way out. They have some super cool artwork on display too! These folks take social distancing really seriously too! It didn't take away from the experience at all. They killed it. It was wet and left a huge red stain on my jacket. It's oil based paint and of course it dried before I could get it out. I showed her our VIP tickets and she said we still had to go in a line to get paper tickets. She didn't seem to know her job. I questioned another worker and he said we did not have to do that. It was raining. After five minutes she tells us we can't bring my purse or our umbrellas inside and have to take back to car. It was pouring rain. You think she could have told us that from the beginning. Total time it took us to wait with VIP tickets and go through house was about an hour. Not scary AT ALL. On a Friday night we waited 2 1/2 hours to get in. I wish I knew I'd be waiting outside for the majority of it, it was freezing ! Anyway. The run through of the haunted house was almost 22 mins. I timed it on my phone. I liked the sets and the theme of the devil. However *spoiler alert * the gas smell was overwhelming. We got lost like twice y'all needed to direct us better lol ! Also if you care about in the line scares , there were 2 actors that would come periodically to scare you and that's it. $25 for a 20 min haunted house I mean it's okay. I traveled an hour to go to Evil Intentions as part of my bachelorette weekend. This was the best haunted house I have ever been to, and certainly in the Chicago area. After we gave our tickets we were directed to enter an area to wait in line. Immediately we were met with two actors that had me cowering on the ground in fear...this was in the line. So you can only imagine how terrifying the actual walk through gets. Some of the rooms/sets are more traditional yet somehow not at all stale, and then the entire last half of ~40 minute walk through has the most unique I have seen anywhere- never saw sets like these! Also, there is an actor who plays a doctor- he has the creepiest laugh and is amazing. Most of the actors are dedicated to giving you a scare. Would go again in a heartbeat! read more

With a haunted house this good, yes, there will be lines, however, they do an incredible job of efficiently moving the line along and given you entertainment and scares while you wait. As embarrassing as it is to say publicly, the first person you meet in the house that goes over the rules completely humiliated me in front of a group of complete strangers by calling me fat multiple times and when I told him how bogus that was, instead of seeing that he crossed a line, proceeded to tell me to cry him a river, no, cry two rivers. He kept telling me I was fat in front of a full room and never offered an apology or eased up. He was so focused on degrading me that he didn't even go over the rules. I contacted the Facebook page about their fat shaming employee and you would think I'd get an immediate response...nope. Still haven't heard back from them. I dished out $70 (me and my wife) just to be completed humiliated. My sister and her husband also went with the vip. That's $140 from all four of us only to have our time completely ruined before we even got in. To top it off, the haunted house isn't scary. They space people out, or so it seems, causing the line to be ridiculously long, but you meet up with the groups ahead of you in less than 5 minutes. The actors touch you, repeatedly. They block your path by hanging upside down forcing you to walk through a strangers hair. They hold knives to kids faces, prop or not that's not cool or funny. It actually gets to a point where you see more mannequins than real people. It's effective if you have one room with them and don't know which is real, but when there are multiple rooms and nobody is actually under a sheet, it's not at all scary. It's just not a good haunted house. I would strongly advise people to avoid this place solely based on their employment of a man that shames people for being overweight. That's not part of what makes a haunted house. It's cruel, demeaning and downright mean. There's no thoughtfulness to it. Nothing crafty. Honestly, I still have it on my mind and we went on Saturday night. I haven't been insulted like that to my face since high school. I don't expect a lot of people to understand. I even expect some people to lash out in the same fashion at me in defense of something they have no ownership of just because they think making fun of people is funny. But please know that this kind of behavior is unacceptable. It shouldn't be rewarded in any way. If I could give less than a star, I would. I'll just add more more thing in saying that the kid that did this posted a review for that same haunted house saying how great of a job he does. That same haunted house likes his comment even after this issue was brought up to them twice and they said they were no longer looking into it. Additionally, if you look at all the most recent reviews that have no actual comment, just a star rating, you'll find that if you check out each reviewers Facebook page, they work there. All the workers are backing up this behavior and supporting it and the Facebook manager is approving it as well by liking all of the comments. They instantly like these comments but when I contacted them they never responded. They only responded to my sister after she contacted them several times. read more

I've gone two years in a row (2011 and 2012) and I loved it both times. I've been to other "big name" ones that you hear advertised all over the radio and tv and was REALLY disappointed. They were too short, too scripted, NOT scary.. etc.... I LIKE that it doesn't feel over the top, manufactured. It feels more like a horror movie come to life (both times I went it was fairly busy so the actors were on their game). One particularly creepy part is where you walk down a path that feels like a little outside garden. Well in 2012 they had fog going in there too. Just as me and my friend started walking towards the little garden path a psycho with a chainsaw came running at us from behind so we BOOKED it down the garden path only to have another psycho with a chainsaw suddenly appear running right at us!!! SERIOUSLY like a horror movie! We were both screaming and running like little girls!! Another thing I really like about this haunted house is that it's fairly dark in it, which in my opinion creates the atmosphere and adds to the creepiness. Other haunted houses are SO lit up that nothing really scares you. Both years that I've gone the actors were REALLY good. They stayed in character, creeped the hell out of you, scared the hell out of you and just made the whole thing come together. Waited in a line for 2 hours. When we bought the tickets in line, that would have been a really good piece of information for them to tell us, because we would have left. I have been to several haunted houses in my day and have never waited more than 30 minutes. It was NOT worth the wait. Once we finally got in, the "monsters and ghouls" spent most of the time terrorizing my 10 & 12 year old. Thanks for that by the way. All-in-all, not a great experience. read more
