This place was awesome! I lived and went to universal horror nights in Orlando for five years. Trying to find a haunted house that even comes close to Universal quality has been a challenge. Massacre haunted house has amazing visual affects, the make up is it awesome, and the props are super cool. the first line was a regular Q line, and then you entered another a bit past a bar! this room had lights and a DJ booth what a great way to wait. The haunted house had many twists and turns, amazing effects, and creepy story lines. I say a haunted house is a success if I go "Oh shit". at least once... I yelled it three times here. I had an absolutely spine-tingling experience at the haunted house! From the moment I walked in, the eerie ambiance and attention to detail were outstanding. The actors' performances were top-notch, delivering scares that had me jumping out of my skin. We took a large group of rambunctious hockey kids for a night, and it didn't disappoint. The props and seats were amazing. The actors and their makeup/costumes were downright scary, but they did a good job of scaling up the terror for the braver kids while toning it down on others who were obviously more timid. The sets were unlike any other haunted house I've been to in that there are tremendous sound effects, blinding lights, lifelike horror props, and cool actors popping out of every corner (and sometimes right above you). I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fun night! read more

General admission line was awful. It took an hour and 35 minutes to get into the house. Once in, you run into groups that are in front of you. It's also pretty bright in there and a lot of empty space. Dungeon of Doom in Zion is by far the best haunted house I've been to. It's a hike but well worth it if you like scares read more

Haunters in line were interactive. Inside ya didn't know if it was a prop or a haunter until too late....bam got ya! I like the different scenes and the characters that go along with them. Every one we came across were great! They try their best to keep you distanced from others but sometimes people just bunch up and slow down causing the "traffic". But nothing the staff can really do beside what they already do. We can't expect them to be holding groups back in every section. That would kill the vibe too. And you can't expect back to back to back scares or there is no build up of anticipation of a scare. I have gone twice this season and both times had different experiences. Different scares, different haunters in different places. Both good times! I think the owner has done a great job with the facility and the staff are great at what they do and they enjoy doing it and it shows! Haunting takes alot of work! Who's got two thumbs and likes himself some Ho-Ho-HORROR? This guy. So this haunted house out in Montgomery decides to put on a special holiday show after a very successful season in October. Weird, right? Well it was. For two nights only, they re-opened their doors with a demented-Xmas theme, and it was LEGEN- ......wait for it....... I am so, so, sososo glad I made the hour+ trip out to middle of bufu Illinois to experience Massacre. I (spoiler alert!) was recently an official reviewer for HauntedIllinois.com, and these guys made it all the way to the top of the list to become the #1 rated haunt in Illinois for 2014. The webmaster himself recommended this place, so of course I had an obligation to see what all the fuss was about. I was NOT disappointed. Admission was normally $25/pp, which is actually a lot when compared to most other haunts in the region. However, if you brought new or gently-used toys as a donation, they would take $5 off of each ticket, so I only paid $40 for myself and a friend. When I realized I had forgotten the box of toys back in the car, the guy at the ticket window said "oh no problem, just drop it off at the front when you're done going thru." When we did, they were so grateful for the (ample) donation, one of the actors broke character to say 'thanks'. All around friendly folks, really. As for the haunt itself, I was inside for more than 20 minutes, which yielded a great scare-per-dollar-per-minute ratio. Just when I though "oh this is probably the end", it just kept on going. TONS of themed rooms, a bevy of costumed characters, and some phenomenal animatronics that quite literally floored me. I was initially upset that they were only sending guests in groups of 2-4, as that drew our wait out into the 30-45 minute range. However, as we went in just the two of us, we got personalized treatment from the haunt, and it was awesome. Highlights included: + a room filled with Samaras (the creepy-ass long-haired girl from The Ring); some were mannequins, others were not ;) + an animatronic I can only describe as the plant from Little Shop of Horrors lunging out from a dark void and scaring the sh*t out of me + a big T-Rex head that was triggered by walking across a pressure plate + a church scene replete with lit candles and pews filled with dummies.....or were they? + a continuation of the above, wherein a possessed priest guided us through a hallway completely lined with bible pages (a nice touch) + a motion-activated rack of 'falling' drums that gave me a good jump + a room adorned with [gory] severed heads hanging from the ceiling If I had one criticism, it would be the weak production of their 3D area that was rather underwhelming. Most of the effort seemed to be put into the other zones, as this portion was virtually barren of actors, not that scary, and generally unimpressive. I think what made Massacre my favorite haunt of 2014 was trying to guess if that person-shaped thing in the corner was a static dummy, an actual human, or a dummy on a pneumatic scissor-jack that would spring out as you walked by. They put on a terrific show, my biggest kudos to the cast, crew, and everyone else behind the scenes to make it Illinois' BEST haunt. A job well done, guys! .......-DARY. read more

This review is only for their "blackout" night they had on Nov 13th. Finally a haunted house that was scary! I was actually so excited to get scared throughout the entire haunt! This was their special event called blackout where they turned off all the lights in the haunt, didn't have a set path, and you are only given a glowstick...per group! My friends and I had a blast! The actors really keep in character and know exactly how to pop out at you and scare the crap out of you. I think the haunted house should always be like this! read more

I loved every minute of this! I left terrified. The had every horror imaginable theme areas. The actors inside the house were good too. The entrance was a bit shady tho... overall I'd recommend it! This is one of the worst hunted houses. We've been to and reviewed. There are not enough employees to actually scare you. The sets are good but there are few with actors to jump out etc. It's confusing inside on which way to go. The groups end up getting bunched up so the few actors that jump out have already been seen by the time you get to them. People had flashlights on their phones on and no one made them turn them off so it detracted from scare factor. The 3D portion was decent. The wait time if you bought a fast pass was decent. The set up of entering via the back door, not so good. Allowing people to drink and smoke inside while waiting not good. We took the group photo on the way in and price for it was reasonable , $6.00, but were told the system wasn't working when we left. Employee begged us to add the $5 escape room at the end but as the haunted house was so poorly done didn't even want to try it. Overall overpriced for what you get. Not scary at all. read more

Amazing. This is my third time going to this haunted house and it's always something new. I went with a few of my little cousins because they started to grow cocky and this place did not let me down at all. I love the different settings and the creativity with each room. The actors do an amazing job. I actually got lost and one of the actors was nice enough to break character and guide us. Definitely was a good haunted house and I plan on going again soon! Went to their Christmas Nightmare last year and it was great! Thought I would give them a try this Halloween season an was terribly disappointed. They do not do a good job at all of managing the flow of people coming in as we were constantly catching up to the people in front of us. It got so bad as to where we were standing in this room with a coffin with a group of other people with a coffin for about 5 minutes or more not even knowing what was really going on. It was just to get to the next room of the attraction. House itself was not scary at all and definitely not worth the 1 1/2 hour drive for me. Sadly I will not be returning after this experience as it was a hige letdown. I will stick to the ones in my area like Dungeon of Doom which is almost an hour long and well worth the $25-$30. read more

(no spoilers) There were a few aspects that were so different from anywhere else I've been. They also handled the COVID-19 situation well with temperature checks, a strict mask policy, and enforcing social distancing. Absolutely worth the hour drive. The only thing scary about Massacre is their foreseeable lawsuit. When they were at Odyssey Fun World I was a real fan, came every year and always brought my family. Last Halloween season I came here with my boyfriend and two teen nephews. Man, what happened to you all? Now I'm not one that's easily offended or annoyed, but I sure as hell was confused and dissatisfied with the actor's "acting". There was NO SCARE FACTOR. All night I got called names like "Bonquesha" and "Shaniqua" by the actors and staff. My nephews and boyfriend were referred to as "Tyrone" and one of the actors kept asking us if we knew how to dance. Again, how the hell is this scary??? We paid to be scared not made a mockery of all night. Also while in line, there was a woman who grabbed my hand and put my ticket in her mouth although I asked her not to and when she did a glob of spit fell out of her mouth on to my hand. Apparently it's part of the "act". Actually, several actors grabbed and slung me around that night, yet your terms say you aren't supposed to touch us right? One of the actors walked around throwing condoms on people, which from the look of everyone in line did not entertain them. The couple in front of us actually left after a brown dirty condom landed on one of their heads. And then to make matters worse halfway through they put the 4 of us with a group of 5, which took away from the suspense. You've got to do more than just walk around yelling obscenities and throwing condoms to get good reviews and real fans. This stuff isn't scary or fun, it's annoying and leaves a lot to be desired. read more

I had purchased two VIP Tickets, and was glad I did when I got there and saw the line wrapped around the building. We went around to the back exit and was told by an employee to just go to the front door and they would let us in, so we did just that. When we got to the door they told us that we had to wait in line even thought we had VIP, are you kidding me? What was the point in paying for that then? So we talked to tome people in line and finally figured out we were supposed to go to the bottom of the ramp and we stood in line there. Once we got to the entrance the guys scanner was broken and because of that we were told we had to stand in the general admission line, are you kidding me? My friend went and argued that just because their scanner was broken doesn't mean we should be penalized, and finally got to where we should have been 20 minutes before all of this. Now onto the haunted house. As a person who scares easily, this haunted house was a joke, there were more props than people and it wasn't even scary. This is such an unorganized haunted house, and wasn't even scary. NOT WORTH IT! read more

While this wasn't the scariest haunted house I've been to, they did so many clever things that I think it's totally worth going to if you're in the area. The group size and pacing is phenomenal. We were in a tiny group of five originally, which eventually just resulted in us being alone once the group of three made it a tiny bit ahead of us, which is always rad in a haunted house. The staff pay close attention to the pacing as well, with two different points where one of the actors did something to make us wait to give the people ahead of us time. I'm not sure if everyone was on walky talkies or what, but the way this was all orchestrated was masterful. Inside, the rooms are INCREDIBLY varied, to the point that Massacre, by far, had the widest spread of different themes inside potentially of any haunted house I've ever been to. There's even a weird jungle area, complete with waterfall. It made you stop and spend more time looking around, versus many haunted houses which might all just follow one theme. You could tell a ton of care and planning went into the whole thing. The 3D area, like all 3D areas at these haunted houses, was pretty gimmicky. I imagine this 3D stuff was cool at one point, but now that legit everyone is doing them, they kind of lose their appeal. Still, if you've never seen the 3D UV paint stuff, it'll be neat to you. The best thing they do though, and the smartest thing I've seen ANY of the haunted houses do this year is take a photo of your group when you get there, then post it on Facebook the next day with all their info and watermarks and stuff. Rob Zombie's haunted house took a photo and were trying to charge THIRTY DOLLARS for it. No way in hell would I ever pay $30 for a photo, but we totally shared the crap out of the Facebook photo they posted, which arguably drives far more value for the haunted house through everyone seeing that we went to Massacre than the few saps who flop out $30 each night at American Nightmare. It generated some interest, got my friends talking, then they went. That's how social media is SUPPOSED to work, so, bravo Massacre for being smart about it. I guess they do some laser tag stuff in the off-season, and while I typically don't care about that kind of thing, with the attention to detail found in the haunted house, we'll definitely be back to see what that's all about. read more

I survived the massacre!!!!!! Lol the boy and I made It out to Montgomery after Oktoberfest celebrations. I was nice and buzzed and ready to be entertained!! I had only been to Statesville haunted house one before, and I didn't really like it so I had my reservations. I didn't want to walk or stand in mud to get to the Massacre like Statesville. (I spend too much money on my clothes to be ruining them!!)I appreciated that the ground was paved outside and not muddy. The lines are indoor vs. outdoors. I really liked that the people that run The Massacre and all of the characters treat you respectfully. Yes they crack jokes with you and what not, but at Statesville they yell and scream at you and I didn't like that one bit. I don't like spending my hard earned money somewhere to be treated like a slice of Dogsh*t pie!!! Anywho back to the massacre: the line moves pretty quickly. I was prepared to be there all night waiting in line. We purchased our tickets, made it through the lines, and the haunted houses in about an hours time. 23 bucks gets you general admission access to two haunted houses. I don't think buying VIP is necessary. The line moved pretty quickly, some of the characters interacted with you while you were in line, and there was a big screen showing the movie The Conjuring. I loved the character interactions. I am some how inclined to believe that someone who has worked for Statesville haunted house is connected with The massacre because I saw a few similarities. Some rooms were completely the same as Statesville. That to me was a little unoriginal. I don't know who's idea that was, but #DoBetter. That being said I still had a good time. I did jump a few times I have to say. Some of the characters were quite entertaining! I loved the one on the toilet!! He was hilarious! The 3D section was cool. It was very short, but I felt like I was transported into a comic strip. Loved the effects. The rooms were decorated very cool. Very nice detail. My one major critique is the way a couple Of the rooms were setup. I had wandered completely out of the haunted house to the behind the scenes area twice. So far this is definitely one of the scariest Haunted house around, it definitely got some jumps out of me. Long lines are expected and did not mind however what my group and I did not like when we went was that the actors get WAY, WAY TOO CLOSE mainly to all the females that were in our group and several even touched their hair and back and this was just really uncomfortable. I am a huge lover of Haunted houses and Groupon. So when I saw they had a deal for here, I had to get it. I was impressed with the animatronics and overall look of the haunted house. My only complaint is the people who were supposed to scare were more so just for the look and not freight. Not worth the hype. I'm unsure how this place was voted the scariest in Illinois...it was average at best. The haunt is located in a strip mall and there is no clear signage informing people what line is for what. We had VIP Fast Pass tickets but had no clue which line we had to be in. The only signs were located right in front of the line but you had to plow through herds of people to try and read them. Once you are finished waiting in the line outside, you then must wait in another line inside the building. There are NO staff inside directing VIP Fast Pass holders to the shorter line...we had no clue where to go and had to figure it out after a while ourselves. Once inside the haunt, you go through different themed rooms with dark winding hallways that separate the rooms. The rooms were elaborately and impressively decorated; however, the scares would have been much more effective if the actors wore masks and full costumes so you had absolutely no idea who (or what) was behind the mask. I did give this place two stars because they were very conscious about the flow of the haunt. Most haunts send large groups of people through at a time which ruins the entire experience because the people in the front of the group get the real startles and the people in the middle and end get the leftovers. This haunt would force you to stop at certain points and would not allow you to pass the actor until the group in front of you would be far enough ahead ensuring the group you came in with got the full experience. I also gave it two stars because the set decoration was impressive to say the least. It's always nice to walk through a room and not know what is real and what is a prop. All in all, if you are looking for an average scare haunt, this is your place. If you are looking to be terrified, there are much better haunts out there. read more

Exceeded my expectations! Every part of the haunted house was scary different which made it exciting, they let you enter in your own separate group from everyone else so it didn't ruin the surprise scares for us, the actors don't touch you, and it was long enough so you get your money's worth. Only bad thing was how slow the lines to enter went (since they were timing different groups apart from each other) so I highly recommend getting the fast pass if you don't want to wait more than an hour in line. read more

I haven't been to a haunted house in a long while. Not since I was a teen. This haunted house was pretty cool. There are two houses to go to. I think people are cheap nowadays. I mean it's 23 bucks for two haunted attractions. Get with it. You know you are going to pay. The wait. Lots of people complain amity the wait. This one , even though the line was long af was not that bad. We waited about 20 mins in line and it went pretty quick. I loved the 3d rooms. Really cool. Yes, there was adult humor mixed in with the haunted house but there are signs everywhere that say this is not for kids. All in all pretty cool place and I enjoyed it. Was I scared? I go to every haunted house there for Valentine's Day Christmas Easter and I have even done their escape rooms and this was one of the worst experiences that I have ever had there. And we paid extra to go through the express line and there was a literally eight people behind us eight people in front of us I didn't even get scared at all I mean I literally got to watch the decorations inside. I understand it was busy but you should tell people hey in advance there might be a time delay. Don't send people upon people. And I work in customer service if someone complained I would do whatever it took to make things right. Not this place not even off to refund me the express ticket price. This is probably a great Haunted House. My husband and I were super excited to go last night. We bought the tickets and understood that they were non refundable. The evening before we were to go, I had my first vertigo spell. I was very sick and saw my doctor Saturday morning. She told me I absolutely couldn't attend due to the lighting and other factors. I left a voice message saying that I would email the doctor's paperwork to get a refund and they refused. I totally get the policy, but I believe a refund should be issued in a medical situation. I will discourage friends from buying tickets to this haunted house. Bummer! read more

When you think of haunted houses and cheesey effects come to mind and a lot of smoke. Not the case here!!! Actors in full blown character walking around and following their "prey!" Realistic effects and some freakish acting like stapling money to their body!
