When I asked him how long he anticipated such a job might take, he said between two and four hours. I suspect that his high end timeline was probably an overestimate, but even at four hours, that worked out to over 400.00/hr. At two hours, it was twice that. I called an electrical inspector who came out and did a complete inspection of the home. He found several electrical wires that were high voltage and not installed properly violating code. In addition, he made several recommendations regarding other issues in the home. We asked if there was an electrical contractor he could recommend that could do the required work in addition to several other small items we wanted to address (lights not working-fans that were working sporadically-broken doorbell-exterior outlet that needed removal). He recommended Powell's Electric - he said he knew the family that owned the company for decades and they were excellent. I contacted Powell's and they sent two technicians to our home - it was very easy scheduling an appointment, and they came right on time. They spent over 3 hours repairing the faulty installation of the high voltage wires, removing excessive, exposed wiring that was no longer connected to anything. They repaired the doorbell, outside lighting, removed the electrical outlet in the front yard that was for sidewalk lights that were no longer there. They completed all of the work efficiently and diligently. We felt very confident they knew exactly how to approach each issue. We are so grateful to have the electrical wiring in the home up to code and all the repairs completed! He told me the 220a wire going to my dryer should be replaced, which meant fishing wires through the ceiling. They quoted $1400 to go 25'. I told them I wanted a second opinion. They called me to follow up as soon as he left and lowered it to $1100. I still insisted on a second opinion. After having another electrician come out, he said the wire did not need to be replaced.
