I traveled to VA to see my great nephew, who was born in June. Upon arrival, I had to stop at the…read moreguards post and complete a form in order to drive onto the hospital campus. Once I passed the background check, I was given a parking pass valid for the next few days. I parked in the parking garage as instructed by my nieces husband. I got turned around the first time, and it took a little extra time to find the maternity ward. But the next time it was easier and I never got lost again lol. On one of my visits, I walked through the oldest structure on campus which was the original hospital built in 1827. This is the oldest military hospital in the US. It still had the original stone exterior (outsise of original hospital) which had been closed in with hallways surrounding it. I checked out some cool paintings throughout the hospital. I learned a lot of history by reading the captions of the paintings. This biulding was turned into an administrative building. The campus was huge! And very pretty as it sits on the bank of the Chesapeake Bay. There was lots of green space which was beautiful.

On June 1, 2026, at approximately 11:00 p.m., I overheard a conversation involving a female nurse,…read morea male nurse, and MORRISONPONCE, DAPHNE PILAR, MD, regarding a male patient. The discussion appeared to involve the patient's private medical information and was conducted in a manner that sounded more like gossip than a legitimate clinical discussion. Before the physician became involved in the conversation, the female and male nurses referred to the patient by name and appeared to access or review his medical chart while discussing him. During the conversation, they discussed details of his medical condition, treatment history, and other information that appeared to come directly from his medical record. The female nurse stated that the patient had arrived at the hospital earlier that morning, between approximately 9:00 and 10:00 a.m., because antibiotics previously prescribed by Sentara Hospital were not improving his strep throat. She further stated that the patient had remained in the waiting room for approximately seven hours and discussed delays related to his testing and/or retesting for strep throat. The nurse also mocked the patient for crying and becoming emotional while seeking care for his worsening condition. The tone of the discussion appeared dismissive and disrespectful toward the patient and his medical concerns. Additionally, the female nurse stated that she had not documented everything that had been discussed or communicated regarding the patient's condition in his medical chart. The statement was made in the context of discussing the patient's care and raised concerns about whether relevant information had been omitted from the medical record. The conversation further suggested that concerns raised by the patient may not have been fully reflected in the chart, potentially affecting the evaluation and timeliness of his care. The fact that the patient was identified by name, that his chart appeared to be accessed and discussed outside the context of direct patient care, and that multiple healthcare professionals participated in the conversation raises serious concerns regarding patient confidentiality, professionalism, and compliance with healthcare privacy standards. The statements regarding prolonged waiting times, delayed testing, and incomplete documentation also raise concerns about the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of the care provided.

Sentara Family Medicine Physicians is a full-service medical facility located on the eighth floor…read moreof the Fort Norfolk Plaza Medical Building. There is a parking garage adjoining the building which provides adequate space, I've always been able to find a spot pretty easily. Access in and out of the garage to and from Riverview Avenue is easy. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the building so you can always get a decent signal on your smartphone. I have been very pleased with this business since I've been seeing Dr. Richard Sokol for the past several years. I get great care and the office is very responsive when I call or send messages through the MyChart website or app. Wait times are reasonable, this is important to me. Dr. Sokol is very approachable and always takes the time to answer questions and explain things in a way that is easy to understand. I am always impressed by his knowledge and experience and the way he keeps up with new developments in his field. The waiting room is large and comfortable. The staff is friendly and efficient. I appreciate that most of my medical needs can be handled right in the building. Need some lab work done? There is full lab on the same floor. Need an x-ray? They've got you covered. As I said earlier, I am very happy with the service and quality of care I receive at Sentara Family Medicine Physicians.

I used a Groupon to schedule a float therapy session here. Although I'm not 100% sold on float…read moretherapy after my session, I must say that the staff was very helpful and friendly, and the facility is quite nice. It's a little confusing when you walk in because the Renova Wellness Center is two stories and has several different facilities within the building, including a gym, a tea bar, and a hyperbaric therapy center, all on the first floor. Because I was running a little late (It's a little difficult to locate their parking lot because it's on the rear of the building, and the only entrance is from Wilson Rd), I didn't have the chance to wander upstairs, but someone saw me frantically searching the unlabeled map on the wall and very kindly directed me to the float center. The man who helped me make the appointment was seated at the front desk, and he extended a warm welcome and asked my name, signally that they were expecting me. I thought that personalized touch was quite nice. A woman brought me to the float room, and upon learning that it was my first float, showed me how the features worked, explained the benefits (theta wave relaxation brought on by sensory deprivation and deep relaxation), and explained how to work the shower, the vitamin D lights, and put in the ear plugs. One complaint: The shower head was on the end of a flexible hose, which was awesome, except there was nowhere to place the shower head to keep it hands free, so I had to awkwardly hold it the whole time I was showering. The herbal shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel were delightfully aromatic and sufficiently thick. The float session itself was nice, but I was not prepared for the small amount of motion sickness that I initially experienced. I think the slight, almost imperceptible movement of the water is what did me in. Once I was able to lie completely still, I did better. I did eventually get to a state of deep relaxation, but it felt like it took me about 30-45 minutes to get there. Another thing I wasn't prepared for was the amount of salt crusting that accumulated on body parts that were above the water. By the end of the session, my face was crunchy and stiff. I probably should have used the spray bottle and small face towel more often, but I wanted to get into the deep meditative state, so I only used it at the end of the session. All that aside, the weightless sensation, although slightly disorienting, was quite nice, and I feel like I would probably get better, deeper, more relaxed states with future floating sessions and continued practice. I loved that nothing felt rushed. The recorded voice gives you an 8 minute warning prior to your 60-minute float session beginning, and it calmly alerts you to the end of your session, as well. I could easily hear it even through the silicon ear plugs. No one knocked on the door as soon as the chime went off, and no one was standing immediately outside the room as soon as I was done. On the other hand, I was able to walk out of the float room and across the hall to the tea bar without saying a single word to anyone. The introvert in me didn't mind in the slightest, but others might find it a bit odd. The tea bar is a tad confusing, and it was completely unstaffed when I was there. Maybe they were short-staffed today, or maybe it was because it was a Saturday. At any rate, there's a sign saying to help yourself to some tea, and there are cups, tea filters, stir sticks, a hot water dispenser, various kinds of sugar, and a metal tin of loose leaf tea simply labeled "K-B tea." I'm still not sure what that means, but it was herbal and delicious. I put a few dollars in the "Donations appreciated" basket, but I was confused by the abundance of other tea bags that were evidently for sale, since they had "$2.99" and other prices hand written on them. I would have liked to purchase one or two, especially since there was a sign advertising a BOGO deal, but again, there was no one in the tea bar. I sat down for a few minutes and leafed through one of the many tea books on the tables in the room, but when no one made an appearance, I gave up and wandered out. So, overall, I had a very good experience. The facility is quite nice, and the staff (the few of them that there were) were very friendly and helpful; however, I wish the building was more clearly labeled inside and out, and I wish the website had a map clearly labeling each of the facilities, so newcomers would be a little less lost and overwhelmed.
