Restaurant was open and airy and had a covered patio. There was a ton of vegan options and they had gf toast. There was lots to choose from but I found it off that: No gf waffles/pancakes Home fries were not gf They could do gf French toast BUT WAIT, the vegan French toast batter had gluten. Right next to Vaughan mills mall though so could go run errands and come back. Food wise, they have two menus. One is entirely vegan. Regular menu seems basic and my friend liked her steak and salad. We tried to get in their downtown location, but it was packed. So we finally tried the Vaughn location, realizing we had to wait about an hour for a table. I was shocked that the place looked smaller than the outside. Due to weather, they did not open the patio area. Service was great. Waitress was nice and accommodating. The washroom was decent. The food came out quickly which I appreciated since I was already hungry. The omelette was way smaller than other brunch restaurants that I go to. I just stared at the size. Puny!! The salad was nice. And I'm so glad that at least the home fries were hot and to my liking. Overall, I'm not sure if I'll go back. We were tight on time so we just inhaled our food and left. The second visit was on Monday. Wasn't too busy with lots of seating inside and outside. We opted for inside this time. Food came out much better but the toasts looked like it was buttered by a 4 year old. A sloppy slab in the middle then cut in half. You're served overly toasted or rock hard stale bread with a tony dollup or smudge of butter in the 1 bite/centre. We threw most of it out. Overall food rating is solid 2.5/5. After attempting this establishment 2x I think that's plenty of a go. I'd skip this place and head onto Kotsy's or even Cora's. I have always been willing to check this place out since I heard about their Doug McNish plant based menu. Usually it's crowded but finally I was able to get in. I love the grand slam breakfast. Never had such great plant based sausage and bacon since Mythology / Doug's public kitchen. Sunny side eggs are photogenic and nice to try, though I would recommend scrambled tofu. We tried the Greek salad, mushroom and swiss burger, and steak frites. The burger was delicious and out of their side options, I definitely recommend going with the house fries instead of the french fries. The well-done steak was delicious, albeit burned in one or two spots, and a little dry. My only other complaint would be that they forgot about the beets and watermelon radishes that came with the steak salad side order. We waited 1hr 15 min for our food, after seeing the table who was sat at the same time served and cashed out before we had our club sandwich & breakfast sandwich. It was clear the server (granted he was 'new' on the job) forgot to punch in our meals, he could've just been honest and brought over some fries to snack on while they made it right. When we needed a refill we had to motion the server over, not once did he check in on us so we sat without drinks for a part of the wait and as frustration built up, we asked multiple times about our food, each time we were told '5 more minutes.' When 1 of our plates arrived it was definitely not up to par, the tomato on the Club wasn't ripe (it's August) and we were given fries vs homefries, the breakfast sandwich was plated with fries as well, not the salad & herbed home fries as listed in their menu- which they corrected. Our only modification was for the bacon be 'well done' and it wasn't. So they took it back the breakfast sandwich plate to crisp it up, and correct the sides, when I got the sandwich the bun looked like it was cut into 4 cause it was ripped. So now, we've waited for so long, and neither order was right- it was just unacceptable The manager was sweet and understood, she took off 50% off after we had been there for a total of 2 hours for our lunch break (thankfully, I was with my boss or I would've left prior to getting our food.) With such raving reviews, Evviva has been on my list for quite some time. With the waitress' stamp of approval, I went with the chicken and waffles accompanied by the maple latte. I will say that this was one of the most disappointing chicken and waffles I have ever experienced - 4 tiny pieces of dry and chewy morsels on top of a comically large waffle in comparison. At a price point of $19.99, the chicken and waffles did not make me cluck with excitement. With so many staff on deck (some were on their phones at the bar at all times), you would think there would be all star service - spoilers we were checked on once and service was pretty non-existent outside of that. Overall, there is not much redeemable about the experience minus the cute ambiance if you can move past the sardine formation of the seating. Would I go back again? My plate was huge. I was so excited to dig in. The pancakes were nice and fluffy and the addition of blueberries really hit the spot. I was really full by the end of it.
