She asked if she could substitute the alcoholic drink for a fountain drink instead, but our server was very firm that no substitutions were allowed. What made it even more confusing was that the hostess at the front was incredibly kind and proactive, offering a non-alcoholic alternative to the complimentary champagne. Because of that, it felt odd that swapping an alcoholic beverage for what would likely be a less expensive fountain drink wasn't possible. The food was good, as always, and we still enjoyed our meal. It was just the rigidity around such a simple request that took away from the overall experience. Especially as we were celebrating our last date night before our new baby arrived. Hopefully it's something the restaurant considers in the future, especially for guests who are pregnant or simply don't drink alcohol.

We had a set menu which included a small appetizer soup or caesar salad. I ordered the coconut chicken soup and it was a delight. The soup was definitely Thai influenced and the bamboo shoots, chicken and coconut was a perfect medley of ingredients. It was almost like a green curry. We also ordered beef nachos, crispy calamari and goat cheese and bread dip. All the appetizers were pretty good no complaints here. I ordered the Chipotle mango chicken based on my positive experience before. I must say the dish was really good but the one I had in Moxies Pickering was outstanding. The chicken lacked the deep grill charred marks and was not piping hot. Usually the plates are really hot when they are brought out. The plate was only warm to the touch. The bite of white chocolate brownie was decadent and was great finale for our meal. I ordered a cappuccino to cap off the meal. One critique would be the lack of refilling the waters on our table. The patio was nice and shaded with umbrellas, even though the view wasn't exactly the best (the patio backed onto a parking lot and busy road with cars zooming by). We still got a nice gentle summer breeze with good music. I loved that there were plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. Every dish could be customized to omit certain ingredients (such cheese or nuts). I also loved that there was a low-carb, keto-friendly option that was both filling and delicious (the Power Bowl, with cauliflower rice and plenty of protein and veggies). Review of the dishes: 1) Super Greens Salad - Pretty big portion for a salad, great for sharing. It consisted of plenty of mixed greens (baby spinach, romaine lettuce, cucumbers), strawberry slices which added a hint of sweetness, toasted quinoa and seeds which added nice crunchy texture, and avocado which added creamy texture. I didn't want the cheese or dressing so I asked for them to be put on the side. 2) Power Bowl - This came in 2 varieties: vegetarian (with tofu) or with tuna (as Tuna Poke Bowl in the menu). We asked for them to swap the protein with Grilled Prawns, and it turned out to be my favourite dish of the evening. I could taste the grill / char taste in the prawns - very well done and flavourful. The bowl ingredients were perfect: fresh vegetables, crisp greens, cauliflower rice, shiitake mushrooms, edamame, soft-boiled egg (that was so perfect), and avocado topped with sesame seeds. I opted to skip the spicy vegan mayo. The bowl was already packed with flavours without the mayo. 3) Lemon Basil Salmon - Another great dish. The salmon was pretty big and cooked to perfection. I really liked the ancient grains that it came with (had the texture of risotto but without the cheese), and mixed with plenty of spinach / green vegetable. The only disappointment was that the "seasonal vegetables" it came with only consisted of root vegetables (carrots and beets)... was hoping for more greens such as broccoli, asparagus, and/or Brussels sprouts. It's always good to get caught up with them, especially over a good meal. I recently went to Kelseys with a friend I met through work almost 28 years ago. Over the years, we've enjoyed a good friendship, played a few rounds of golf, and shared quite a few good meals. We both enjoyed some burgers, perfectly cooked, moist and tender. They were loaded and delicious, cooked and topped to perfection. Good lunch!
